What is the difference between the humminbird 720074-12 as ec qde 12 ethernet adapter cable and the 720074-1 as ec qde 700 series ethernet cable?

720074-12 - is supposed to be a quantity of 12 pcs 720074-1 is one cable 12" long They are the same cable one just has more. For the price I'm going to say the bulk listing is only one cable though but I have no proof.

Is there any chance an Ethernet adapter will plug into a hummingbird 597 ci hd di and make the unit work with iPilot?

No. This propriotary cable made by Humminbird to connect the iPilot to your 800 series or higher fish finder is not a regular ethernet cable. The wires inside might be, but the end connections are all humminbird. Essentially, if you want to use this function as designed, you must cough up another $35-40 for this cable. That said, using the two units together as one has changed the way i fish. Despite Humminbird screwing you out of an additional $$$$, this system works amazing.
