Hoyle Card Puzzle & Board Games

I bought this mainly because I wanted to refresh my memory of the rules of some games I hadn't played in many years, and also because I'm thinking about learning to play bridge. Haven't tried that one yet, though. It does have 500 Rummy, Euchre, Hearts, Spades, and several of the type that are more children's games, like Go Fish and Crazy Eights. It's a good selection. The 500 Rummy is really good. The "Panic" board game hangs up the program, though. The board games install separately. The only card game it didn't have that I wanted was Whist, and a version of hearts called Super Hearts, that I am really interested in. (The one where the Queen of Spades is worth 7 points and scoring zero is NOT a winning hand!) Thank heaven you can turn off the obnoxious remarks of some of the "personalities"! It's really better than I thought it would be. It will run without the disc in the drive. I like how you can fix the settings to suit yourself, such as speed of the game, difficulty levels, etc., it's really flexible and customizable.Some of the characters are not human. I did get used to playing with dinosaurs, space aliens and bears! It's fantastic for practicing Spades. I LOVE this program and I'm changing it to 5 stars. I bought another Hoyle game to get the Whist game and it is a piece of junk compared to this one. They should just sell this one. It's really well-programmed, and I'm not talking about the special effects here, although they are well-done, the playing algorithms are very good.

I'm giving this a 5 star because they combined the card and board games. It makes it worth the price you pay. Unlike thelast few years this one works well with Windows 7 haven't had any problems. The down side is they haven't changed the players.,same ones but it is allot of fun to play I just wish they would update a little go for a more quality product instead of themight buck and guess what you'll make more bucks. Overall it works, your have hours of fun...

This is one of the best games to install on your pc to play anytime you want and you will never get bored because there are lots of good games on here besides card games. It has word games, dice games and lots of others that you can play with characters you select that can talk to you as you play or you can turn off the talk, either way, some of these games are addicting and very enjoyable. I am buying a new one because my old one would not work with my new computer and I love to play just about everyday so if you are looking for some great games, I would buy this.

This Hoyle/Encore game is another screw up- and very, very dangerous on any Windows 7, 64 bit computer system. Initially half of the program will not load- with the error message that your computer (if updated regularly) has a later version of the MS C+++ and the program requires a "rollback" to a prior version (???). If you accept this change and follow the program- and help- directions you will find that many existing programs will cease working under the rollback- on our system(s) the most alarming was disabling our virus and internet security program which could only be fixed with a laborious reinstallation of the current update MS C++ as well as a complete reinstallation of out Internet security software (which we fortunately had available!).Unlike other reputable software companies who alter- or issue patches to- their software for the many operational operating software updates, Hoyle/Encore arrogantly directs you to screw up your computer to make their software work! And correcting these screw ups is NOT for the faint of heart or the novice.And- BTW- when the correction is finally done- after numerous hours and strain- half the Hoyle program bought and paid for does NOT work!!!Avoid this program- and probably most of the other Hoyle/Encore software. We will! If there was anything lower than 1 star (like a minus 5 stars) this would be the rating!

I have 2008 Hoyle Card Games and was looking forward to the 2013 with improved conversation from the players. With todays technology I thought there would be new. I got nothing. The only new thing is the cards. VERY bright, gives me a migraine. If you have an older version keep it.Board games are a useless. I thought sure there would be scrabble and regular dominoes.No scrabble and a odd game of dominoes.Don't waste your money!!!!!!

There are lots of games on this CD! Tutorials on the top of the screen were helpful, too, in learning how to play new ones. I have found a couple of new favorites already, Dominoes in the board games section and Aces and Kings, a solitaire selection. Klondike is more automated so that with one click, cards move so the player doesn't need to slide it to the desired position. Highlighting the hearts next to your favorite Solitaire games helps you find your favorites among the 50 selections!I was disappointed that the scoring for Word Yacht did not work. Another change from the previous edition was the larger card size, because this meant the card designs were also larger, something which I found very distracting. The cards are also placed very close together in a column so it makes playing groups of them difficult because it is hard to distinguish what the middle cards are. Another annoying feature was the method used to select another game in the solitaire section--it is necessary to go back to click main menu, then click on Solitaire, then click on the game--it seems this could be more streamlined. I also missed the speed button which regulated how fast you could play.The Board games has quite a variety of different titles. I have only had the CD for a month, so I have not explored most of them as yet.The face creator choices were fun and easy to design. However, It took me awhile to figure out how to make different ones with different names.

It worked even on Windows 10

The only reason I purchased this edition of Hoyle card games was that I had purchased a new computer with Windows 8.1 and the older version I had did not open to a full size screen. Not only did this new edition do the same thing but the card faces are more difficult to read. In older editions you could change the style of card but this feature was removed. Also it takes more mouse clicks to get into a specific game then in other editions.

The "updated" version of this software still does not make all the options available on Windows 7. Not scalable and some features annoyingly not able to be activated.
