Review: very useful - I used this to help plan our vacation to Sicily and it has been very useful in explaining areas and places to visit. It has lots of photos as usual. I also purchased the Insight Sicily guide (which is also good) and there was nothing obviously left out of the DK guide. Review: Excellent! - This proved invaluable during our stay and gave plenty of information on all the places we visited. Although we only stayed in Palermo it was a great help with everything from msueums to restaurants. Recommended.

Up to the usual high standard
Very pleased with the travel book, that arrived as promised. Usual excellent photos with concise descriptions of places and historical content. Also impressed with the "travellers Needs" section. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I have not used the book "on-site" yet.

Good Recommendations
Our recent holiday to Sicily was enhanced considerably by the Eye Witness Book. It is great theat you can relive the memories afterwards by referring back to it.

Essential travel guide
I looked at many travel guides to Sicily and several seemed to be out of date, but not this one. Highly recommended and to the usual DK high standard.

Below DK Standard
Although as attractive as DK guides usually are, this book has some alarming errors, inconsistencies and omissions - eg there is no mention of Caravaggio's The Burial of St Lucy now on display in the Chiesa Santa Lucia alla Badia near the Duomo in Ortigia (significant if that's your kind of thing). There seems to be a consensus that none of the Sicily guides is that good - you need a couple, depending on your interests.

full of pretty pictures and nice ideas but ittle practical information
As always with DK guides, full of pretty pictures and nice ideas but ittle practical information. I used this together with the lonely planet, more as a planning then a doing book.

Very good travel guide with interesting details
This travel guide provides you with detailed information about historic buildings and areas, including clear drawings and background stories, maps of specific areas and historical centers of the featured cities. Perfect for curious and interested people that want to know more than the usual travel guide provides. If you search for a guide that recommends hotels and restaurants this is not the right guide for you, as this part has very little importance in the book.

Eye Candy for the Traveller
This is a beautiful book and excellent for preparing what to see and where to go in Italy. The illustrations are superb and are especially helpful for picking how to spend a limited amount of time and see things of the most interest in a museum, gallery or point of interest. This is not a preferred resource for hotels and restaurants but as an arts & culture reference it cannot be beaten. I will continue to enjoy looking at this book long after my trip.

Very complete and pleasant to read travel guide
We buy an Eyewitness Travel Guide each time we decide to go away somewhere. The Sicily travel guide like the other guides in this collection is clear, well structured with all relevant information and lots of colour pictures to give you a proper idea of where you're going. The introduction gives you a geographical and historical background and presents events throughout the year. The main part of the guide is divided in the 5 main areas of Sicily (very good to help you decide where to stay). They include maps, a presentation of the various sites, recommanded circuits and walks. The guide ends with travelers information such as restaurants and hotels, shops and markets and practical advice. One I would personally add is: bring a GPS if you intend to drive there! It is a good quality book with thick covers and glazed pages which make it sturdy and long lasting and it is small enough to bring in your backback! A definite buy.

) and easy to use
Comprehensive (given how much there is to see in Italy!) and easy to use. I like the Eyewitness guides overall and do recommend them. The Italy guide really worked for us, and covered all the areas we visited (Abruzzo, Amalfi coast, Naples, Sicily, and Rome).
