My niece is very much into this book series. So much so, that when she received an "A" on a school project and we told her we would buy her a gift from Amazon, she specifically requested this book as her gift. (She has the previous books in her possession already). I knew nothing about this book until she told me how good the series was. When the book arrived, I took a quick look through it and I would say it is well written and very easy to read. (Similar to how the Harry Potter books are easy to read) I do like that the main character is about a young girl and her journey of growing up and coming into her own, which is perfect for my 11 year old niece. The book is fairly thick, but the actual size (height and width) isn't super large so my niece can easily carry this in her bookbag or her purse when she goes to visit relatives on the weekend. The only thing I would say is be careful which option you choose, when we bought it we had the choice of paperback or hardcover but the option is easy to overlook. My niece specifically requested the paperback, but my husband accidentally chose the default "hardcover" option instead. (he didn't realize there was an option to choose). But the hardcover does look nice and feels great, and as a book lover and collector myself, I told my niece that book enthusiasts tend to prefer hardcovers because it lasts longer. She's very happy with this book and told us she's already halfway done with it.
