No sheath, and I don’t keep it outside in the elements. My guess is that there is a chance for it to rust.

Is this good as a throwing hatchet?

Depends on skill level. Like this one because being top heavy makes kindling easy.. super easy. Pt is: throwing axes are normally equal balanced but this would work great if can adjust to weight distribution
