Really works, reduces glare & improves safety -- allows you to drive into the sun and still see
I purchased a well-used '99 Chevy C2500 pickup for the right price, and it included the (then) 23-year-old original windshield. And just like always, the fine semi-circle scratches from years of windshield wiper use made it difficult to safely see out during early morning and later evening driving into the sun. In the first photo I was able to capture the condition of the original windshield before I started. In the second photo I tried to capture the improvement, but if anything it looks even better than the photo shows. (Especially if the driver wears polarized sunglasses, which help to eliminate the reflection of the dashboard.) The results exceeded my expectations! In the third photo you can see that the windshield does look polished -- it simply looks new. As a matter of fact, without the fine scratches the Rain-x works better than ever. Best visibility I've enjoyed in any 20+ year old chore truck to date! In the last photo I am showing the very first vehicle I polished a windshield - it's my '02 CR-V daily driver that had the same fine windshield wiper scratches. (There was a bad spot where the travel of the left & right wipers overlapped just to the right of the driver.) Important Note: Although I was able to polish out the scratches using a small, hard wool pad chucked to the drill, it was much more work than it needed to be. On the truck I switched to a variable speed polisher (Makita 9227C or equivalent) and this is *much* easier. (Plan a full afternoon for an older windshield; polishing glass is a much slower proposition than it is for a similar square footage of automotive paint. (!) Disclaimers: 1) The rule of thumb about not being able to fully remove scratches deep enough to catch your fingernail is true. Even so, by rounding off the sharp edges, this polish will take the 'glint' away when the sun hits the scratch, and in many cases this can move a scratch from 'unacceptable' to 'good enough'. (The previous owner had allowed something to hang down from the roof rack and deeply scratch the rear glass, and was distracting in the rear view mirror. By working the rear glass I was able to make this defect much less noticeable...to the point where I'm more than OK with the results. 2) When reading through the reviews someone pointed out (correctly) that deep pitting won't be removed. By the same token, a whole lot of minor pitting *was* removed. If you look closely at the second photo you will see some of the deeper pitting remaining. IF this polishing compound was just as expensive as a brand new windshield, then I would have been disappointed by this. Instead, this polish is an absolute bargain, especially when it allows you to improve the driver's Situational Awareness for literally pennies on the dollar when compared to having the windshield replaced. And it makes your older vehicle look much newer/cared for. A win/win in my book. I've been wet-sanding/polishing paint for almost 50 years, and this cerium oxide is the first stuff I've found that actually works. For me, the results are well worth the time, effort, and price of admission. Hope this helps others out there who are driving older vehicles and need to improve the view --

Pitless Windshield
Pitless Windshield This stuff id great. I used a terry cloth on my Orbital Buffer put some water on it, then sprinkled on the Powder. I took my time going up and down and the back and forth. I would stop for a few min. let it dry and then go over it again with out adding any powder. Spent 30 min on each side and got most of the little pits that show up when a Car is coming at you at night that causes glare. The Car has 170,000 miles on it and the Windshield looks great! It is great stuff and I also used it to get scratches off of my GPS screen. Mixing cerium oxide in baby oil, I used it to micro-polish lathe friction-bearing surfaces (ways, cross-slide, compound tool rest etc.). This followed doing the same thing with silicon-carbide grit in baby oil. One can feel the surface machined roughness disappearing by the stroke. It only takes a few minutes of rubbing the parts back & forth. `works fantastically. The saddle/carriage slid so smoothly, I could push it with the palm of my hand and just watch the carriage wheel spin. REALLY nice ... Afterwards, adjusting the gibs is easier i.e. more consistent friction, too. Especially until mixed with baby oil, be careful to wear a face mask because, if either silicon-carbide or cerium oxide dust gets airborne and into your lungs, it will NEVER degrade or leave ... and would provide the agitation for accelerated cell growth i.e. cancer. Please take this SERIOUSLY and be careful using these wonderful, but powerful compounds. Cerium Oxide is the best polishing powder to remove glass scrach because the chemical and physical reaction. China produced 80% of Cerium Oxide in the earth. . High Grade Cerium Oxide polishing powder for removing fine scratches and scuff marks from glass and mirrors. Apply slurry of cerium oxide with a Felt Polishing Wheel to restore scratched glass, mirrors, even car headlights quickly and easily.

Takes a lot of time and makes a mess, but worth it.
This stuff works. There's enough in this 8oz bag to do half a dozen windshields. I removed very bad windshield wiper scratches from a Volvo S40 windshield that had 200k miles on the clock. The scratches were so bad that it was dangerous driving with the sun in front of you. Mask off most of the car with bed sheets, garbage bags, newspaper, whatever. I used a corded drill along with the "frequently bought together" white pads and hook and loop drill attachment. It flung this everywhere on the car. Easy enough to clean off though. I did the windshield in halves, right and left. Have a spray bottle handy with water to mist the windshield. Do this in a garage or in the shade as the paste dries quickly in the sun. Expect to spend 40 minutes per half. This stuff dries out your hands like concrete or mortar mix, so wear gloves if you're sensitive to that. It is also an EXTREMELY fine powder that you probably shouldn't inhale. Keep it wet or wear a mask. I mixed a tablespoon or so of the powder in a cup with just enough water to make a runny paste. I poured the paste on the windshield and spread it with my hand to evenly cover the half I was working. I worked the drill up and down slowly across the entire half i was working. Then I worked left and right across the entire half. Then up and down, right and left, etc... You get the idea. Keep misting as necessary and keep it up for at least 30 minutes. Repeat on the other half. In the end, I had ZERO scratches remaining and the occasional pit in the windshield was the only reminder that it had 200k miles on it.

Works better for minor scratches and haze
Like most people looking to buy this stuff, I first checked youtube tutorials on how to remove glass scratches. I found it a bit odd that the guy demonstrating the technique didn't actually show a scratch being removed, but I decided to take the risk and buy this powder. After using it for awhile, I can say that it does work, but with an important caveat: It will not COMPLETELY remove deep scratches that catch your fingernail. My car had 2 deep, nasty scratches on the driver's door window where a thief tried to pry his way into my vehicle with some sharp metal implement. Using a dremel tool with felt bits, I worked on polishing the scratches for about 4 hours, and while the tail ends of the scratches disappeared and even the deeply scratched areas felt smoother, it became apparent that this powder would never be able to fully remove the most damaged areas. Overall, this powder worked reasonably well, and made the deep scratches I had in my glass a bit less noticeable, but it is obviously designed for very fine blemishes and not the deep stuff. If you are trying to remove haze from your windshield that was caused by sand and grit under your wiper blades, this stuff would be perfect, but if you have more severe damage like I did, it's a judgement call on your part. Deep scratches will look a bit less noticeable, but will never disappear. Here are a couple of tips for use: 1. A thicker slurry works much faster. When it was watered down, I made little progress. 2. Use a wet paper towel to wipe over and cool the areas the drill or dremel goes over. I have tinted windows and was worried about the effect of the heat, but using this method there was no damage to the glass or tint. 3. Buy a respirator and wear eye protection. Slurry and dust flies everywhere, if you don't have either, you will be breathing this stuff in and possibly getting it in your eyes. I checked the msds on cerium oxide, and its not a terrible carcinogen that will prolapse your anus, but you still don't want to inhale it. 4. Work on an already dirty car, you will definitely be washing it afterwards.

The tires on my new Z06 Corvette are very sticky and they throw stones up like crazy. Some of these pepper the brake inlet ducts and rear fender flares. Occasionally a stone lands on the top of the car. This wouldn't be so bad except in one case recently a stone that still had fresh tar on it landed on my windshield and wound up getting lodged against my wiper blade. I didn't notice it until after I activated my wipers to clear my windshield and that stone glued on the wiper blade with tar etched a really nasty arc right on the driver's side, eye level. Several glass companies said there is nothing I could do but replace the windshield. Cost for a new 2015 Corvette windshield is $950. I saw this product on Amazon and thought I would give it a try. What did I have to lose, so I thought. I purchased the 8 oz. size package. I used a foam disk I had from a 3M headlight repair kit as the applicator, attached to a 3/8 in. variable speed drill. After watching a few videos on the process I gave it a try. As the videos and other reviews state, this is a messy process. I wound up draping a couple of bed sheets over the engine compartment and top of the car. I marked the inside of the windshield with painters tape where the scratch was located to serve as a reference point. After running the CO product up and down the affected area at medium speed and pressure for around 20 minutes I decided to have a look at the glass to see if I was getting anywhere. To my dismay there was no noticeable improvement. I then mixed up another batch and changed my approach a bit. This time I held the pad in one area for several minutes and moved it along the scratch at a very, very slow rate. When the pad seemed to be getting a bit dry, I hit it with the squirter bottle that was filled with water. I repeated this process going super slow up and down the work area for the next hour or so. Then I expanded my work area to approximately 6 inches on either side of the scratch to blend the polishing area to a broader area. I cleaned off the windshield with paper towel to see if things were improving. This method was the answer. I was very pleased to see only a very faint line remaining. I hit this for another 20 minutes or so as described above and I now have an absolutely perfect windshield where the scratch was. Needless to say I am delighted that this 8 oz. package saved me from having to replace my windshield! I had my doubts about this product after the first application but, as my title states, Patience Iago! Remember we are polishing glass. This is hard stuff and it takes a long time to get any positive results. But, providing the defect is not too deep, you can use this product to save your windshield. Good luck!

Great for removing scratches due to wipers from windshield
Great for removing scratches due to wipers from windshield!! My windshield had very fine scratches from the wiper blades that made it difficult to drive at night. Any light coming into the car would illuminate the scratches in a "star" pattern and block my vision. After researching cerium oxide I purchased this product to clear up the scratches. Bottom line: Works great on windshield wiper scratches when used properly. Very time consuming, but worth it if you value your windshield. Tips for use on windshield: 1. Use an orbital buffer with a wool pad. I used this one: Black & Decker WP900 6-Inch Random Orbit Waxer/Polisher I tried a power drill but it is far too awkward to hold on the windshield steadily (since it is rotating and not orbiting). 2. I spent about one hour buffing to clear a 1 foot diameter circle and another 1.5 hours to clear a circle around that one (making a 2 foot diameter circle with no scratches). 3. Use a plastic tarp under your windshield wipers and over your hood to keep any product from getting on the wipers or other parts of the car. Also useful for putting the buffer down to rest (standing moving the buffer in circles for an hour is pretty tiresome). Directions for windshield: 1. Mark area you will be buffing with masking tape INSIDE the car 2. Prepare the solution with water in a small container you can use to pour onto the buffer pad. The solution should be thick but still pour easily. 3. Prepare a spray bottle with water so you can re-wet the buffer as water evaporates 4. Attach wool pad to orbital buffer and pour a small amount of solution onto the pad (it will spread out as you buff) 5. Buff the area desired in a circular motion, re-wet the wool pad when the solution is drying, add more solution if it is no longer being applied 6. Continue about 1 hour for a 1 ft diameter circle 7. Clean with water and paper towels and view results!

GARBAGE!!!
I purchased this to polish out some minor scratches in a windshield. When I mixed it with water there was some coarse grit to it that left scratch marks. Even if you manage to filter out this grit it still makes up about 15 percent of the powder. I would have voted 0 stars if possible, Definitely NOT "High Grade" Update... I found a way to avoid the coarser particles that can scratch the glass, I mixed it with water in a jar and used a turkey baster to remove the upper part of of the mixture, it was a slow process and I wasn't able to use about 15 to 20% of the cerium powder. The mixture that was "good" did remove VERY light scratches with a drill and cotton polishing wheel, deeper scratches that you CAN feel with your fingernail will be able to be removed but be prepared to spend allot of time doing it, unless it is a very small scrach (1/2") and you use a dremel type tool in that case it'll take about a couple minutes. P.S. you've been warned about the quality of this cerium oxide!
