adapter failed. where can i purchase another?

This is a nicely designed and built, though expensive, lamp. Its power requirements are 24 volts at 2 amperes. Suck an adapter can very easily be bought or built. You shouldn't have to "throw away the baby with the bath water" Try one of these:https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDrillDownView?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&freeText=24V&refine=1&history=9lwv79sl%7CfreeText~ac%2Badapter%5Esearch_type~jamecoall%5EprodPage~15%5Epage~SEARCH%252BNAV

Will this light clip on a metal music stand, like Mighty Bright. In the picture it looks like only for a grand piano.

It will work with a metal music stand only if you put In something like a drink coaster in the clamp portion so what it is clamping is more like a grand piano music rack thickness

What is the distance between the top of the mounting clip and the light bulb?

2 1/2 inches. The height is fine for most music, however for some of the higher sheet music the bulb interferes when changes pages.
