Herbatint has been my favorite hair dye for many many years. I had painful reactions to chemical hair dyes that salons used so I started using herbatint 5N Light Chestnut that was almost exactly my natural hair color, except it had a slight reddish tint to it in the sun that I did not like. After using light chestnut for many years I switched to a lighter color my mixing 1/4 bottle Ashe Blonde 7C with 1/4 bottle Blonde 7N and 1/2 bottle developer. This was the perfect amount to apply for a maintenance root coloring to cover any gray hair every 6 weeks or so. Using this mixture eliminated any brassiness also, it was perfect! Until they changed the packaging…it is a huge downgrade. The old bottles were semi transparent so the liquid line was visible in both the developer and haircolor bottles, and there were clear measurement markings down the bottle so I could easily pour out and mix the correct amounts. The new bottles are opaque so you can no longer see any liquid line, and they have eliminated the measurement markings! I had to guess the amounts I was pouring into my mixing bowl, I ended up not having enough to finish my hair this time (which has never happened) and the color is off because my measurement amounts were off! Other than these definite downgrades with the new packaging, the new box is shorter (inconsequential), I personally think the font and box design is a downgrade as well. Other than the terrible new packaging, this is still the best natural hair dye out there, it’s easy on the scalp and the color really lasts, please correct these new packaging flaws, this is a truly outstanding product. I will definitely continue using it, only now I will have to figure out using a scale, but this is not baking, ugh! I really appreciated the user friendliness of the old packaging!

Love the color of this Ash Blond. It turned my hair a light brown which is what I wanted. However, after one washing with a gentle, organic shampoo, the color was much lighter. After two or three shampoos, my hair was brassy yellow. This hair dye is gentle on the scalp and hair, but color does not last, even though I now only wash my hair every 3 days rather than every night. Have switched to Madison Reed light ash brown which doesn't fade as quickly and does not turn brassy. It is twice the cost, but well worth the money. And, it is even more gentle on my scalp and hair.
