Is the variomatic option light or dark?

They transition. Indoors or low light they are clear. in sunlight they darken.

Are the variomatic lenses supposed to have a slightly yellow tint? the code on the side of mine is 2-1.2 w 1 ftkn.

They will have a slight yellow tint when you are indoors.
