RectorSeal No. 5 25790 may be the best thread sealant available for gas plumbing.
Given extensive experience with this product and similar offerings, I only use RectorSeal thread sealant for gas plumbing.

Sealant for a Pressure Tank Tee
My well pressure tank started showing signs that it was failing. The well pump would cycle frequently, build up a lot of pressure and then drop quickly. I didn't want to burn out the pump or create a water line leak. I purchased the same Well-X-Trol unit, a Boshart tee kit and associated fittings and reducers. I initially only used the typical white Teflon tape around the threads. I did this even seeing that the old fittings had sealant around them. Sure enough, I encountered some small leaks. All but one sealed themselves over time. The leak that remained was at the tank and tee junction. It wasn't a gross leak, so I figured I would get to it when I had time. As it turns out, a pinhole leak in the copper piping forced me down that road. I had shut all the water off and the next morning the entire pressure tank was empty. So along with fixing the water line leak, I opted to redo all the fittings and connections on the pressure tank and tee. I searched plumbing forums, and it was recommended to use a better tape and/or a sealant. There is much debate as to whether to use one or both, but I opted to use both. I used Megatape and Rector Seal # 5 the second time around. I wrapped the tape around the threads in such a manner that it was always in the clockwise orientation when being screwed into a fitting. This orientation helps to ensure the tape doesn't unravel as fittings are being mated. I went around at least four times for most fittings, the exception being at the tank and tee junction, which I wrapped five to six times. I made sure the tape was fairly tight around the threads as it was being applied, went over it a couple times with my fingers and then added Rector Seal # 5 over the tape. The sealant filled in the thread groove nicely even served as a lubricant during installation. This allowed me to at least get one to two full turns on each fitting. Long story short, the second time around worked. In the future, I will follow the same procedure on any plumbing job that has similar fittings.

WORKED under far less than ideal conditions.
Used this to fix my air compressor. The 3-port one way valve on the 50 gallon tank had failed, seized in place, brass into steel tank. Really tore up the threads removing it, had to re-tap it with a Chinese tapered tap in the steel bung. All that said, the "new" threads were not great - really rough. This Rectorseal product filled in the imperfections and sealed perfectly. Tank has been holding 95 psi for 24 hours so far. I did apply to both the inside threads on the steel AND the threads on the brass, but it worked and helped me save a >$300 compressor. AND I have plenty left for other uses. I think I will use this in places I normally would have used Teflon tape.

I needed to seal a gas line in our house after a fitting change and I won't cut corners where my family's safety is concerned . Ordered it up, used it as directed, tested for leaks and all was good! there's not much more I could tell you about it other than it effectively sealed the pipe joint where it counts! Recommended!

Excellent product - much better at sealing gas fittings than Yellow tape. Easy to use and the perfect seal on pipe threads for Propane, Natural gas etc.
