Does this process require heat to work?

The process is best achieved & recommended with just warm tap water.  Heating/boiling is not required or recommended for the process however it can be done. 
If & when you heat/boil the solution with mordents in it, it produces smell (non Toxic) but it is best to do it outdoors if you have the space for it. Also, if you are heating it, please ensure you have a spare pot as the pot may catch some color which will not wash away easily. 
WIth our research we have found same results with using warm water hence heating the solution is not recommended. If you want the color to be slightly more stronger on your fabric, leave it submerged in water for over 12 hours and use a higher dose of dye powder. This method will give you better results than boiling.

How many Men’s large T-shirts can you dye with 1 kit?

You should be able to dye 3-5 t-shirts per color comfortably depending on T-shirt sizes.

Are the dyes natural? do the dyes produce any type of fumes and they have an odor? how many m sized shirts can be dyed with this?  are there 3 colors?

Hi, Yes these are natural dyes derived from natural plant sources.  All three dyes in the kit are  non-toxic & non allergic. When you mix the dyes with mordents (specially Indigo) you will experience a slight odor/dust which is 100% safe. 
There are 3 colors - Indigo, Yellow and Red can comfortably dye 3 to 4 medium size shirts in each color so you can achieve 9 to 10 shirts in three colors. You can use this tie dye kit as shibori dye kit to get some great designs.

Can the powders be mixed to create other colors?

Hi, the quick answer is yes that can be tried. However as the colors have different mordents, we suggest not mixing the colors as such as the brightness may be very low for the new color. Honey Oak is alaol launching other kits with alternate colors which may be a better solution to explore other colors.
