Do you know what the hardest thing for a Russian learner is? Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle…which is precisely the reason we’ve written this book! Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes — it’s not entertaining, useful or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all! In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Russian tongue. How Russian Short Stories for Beginners works: Each story is interesting and entertaining with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations. The summaries follow a synopsis in Russian and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about. At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance! Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Russian, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any — we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating! We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles! So look no further! Pick up your copy of Russian Short Stories for Beginners and level up your Russian right now ! Review: Efficient Russian learning book - Each story consists of Russian texts, summary stories in both Russian and English, a list of vocabulary and questions and answers for comprehension checks. Bien pensé et agréable mais pas d’accent.
Pour lire des textes accessibles, c’est très chouette. Le seul bémol selon moi c’est que pour la prononciation les accents ne sont pas indiqués. Il aurait été intéressant que la lettre accentuée soit en gras par exemple pour être sûr de prononcer correctement ce qu’on lit. A part ça, chouette achat

Useful and pleasant!
The book is very well done, as others i read by this editor. The stories are at the right level of complexity for me (level A2-B1), that means i can read and understand them with some effort also without knowing every single word. The most unusual words are then explained at the end of each story, where there's also a summary of the story in english and in russian. The topics of the stories are interesting, covering lives of russian important personalities and cultural themes. That's also a good motivation to continue reading and understanding.

Don't Need To Buy The Paperback
I thought this book would have Russian on one side and on the next page English. A lot of these kinds of books I have bought in French and Spanish were like this. If I had known it was only in Russian with an English summary, I would have bought the Kindle version. Other than that I think it's pretty standard for this genre, not much to say about it really. Edit 1: A year after purchase, my Russian has improved enough to write a review of this book. Overall, I think it's really good. I also bought the competitor's books by Olly Richards and the writing in both of them is really different. These Lingo Mastery books have more every day life themes, the stories are shorter, but you get more of them, and more vocabulary is translated at the end of the story than Olly RIchard's books. The stories kind of remind me of something a high school kid might write but that isn't a criticism, it's a book for language learners. I do have one criticism though, there was one story that was a bit ridiculous. It featured a mother of 3 who had apparently never spent a few hours apart from her children before and cried because they were gone for a few hours. I just don't think this is a healthy vision of motherhood. I did appreciate the woman focus of this story and the writing was fine but again overall, kind of an annoying message and I think they could have done better for a country that has more women in STEM than western countries. I thought about docking one star but decided it against it because the other stories were fine and some pretty cute. Also a lot of the stories are written from the first person of different people and there are several short biographies of various famous Russian people. I bought the Volume 2 and will continue reading. Reading is such a great way to improve language. Edit 2: I forgot that I wanted to say that everyone in this book gets tuberculosis.
