All the Colours of the Dark (B PB)

I started reading this book with a lot of expectations. I literally saw it on every book recommendation. Let me start by saying that the first thing that caught my attention was the one to four minutes long chapters. Every chapter was barely one to two minutes long and the longest chapters were four minutes. I thought to myself, how incredible is that! You might think that since the chapters are short you can easily stop turning the pages, absolutely not! This was a slowly immersive journey about a boy with one eye called Patch(Joseph Macauley) and his heroic, impulsive decision to save a girl( the most beautiful and popular girl in his class) one fine day. This is about his only friend in school Saint, who relentlessly pursues searching for her pirate friend, not ever letting go of hope even after everyone gives up. This is about finding light in the darkest of days and not letting go of it even when all the colours fade. This book will keep you guessing till the very end and still you will not want it to end. Each character and every scene will stitch into your existence and you will not be able to forget it for a long time. You will wonder did Patch really meet a girl while he was abducted or was he simply hallucinating? You will understand because of one single incident how the lives entangled with it changed and took a course no one even imagined. If you think you know the depths of friendship and love think again before reading this brilliant piece of art. Some books really do live upto all the hype around it. And definitely this book will ruin you for your next read, be prepared!

Engaging and absorbing read, very well written with unexpected twists.

Intelligent page turner that didnt let me put the book down! Riveting! Must must must read… reading a suspense / thriller like this after a long time!

Omg. Please do not go by the reviews given. I am zapped. Had it not been a book decided by my reading club i could not have read it. It's illogical, you cannot connect with the character. Please do not buy

A book written in images and colours, in lyrical prose which puts poetry to shame. I am a slow reader, and the language in this book had me stop and re-read aloud, and then stare at the sky, none of which helps a person finish this brilliant story. Amen to Patch and Saint and Norma and Charlotte and Nix. And to Sammy. Thank you so much.

I loved everything about this book, the complexity of the characters, the style of the writing that sucked you in as a reader and a plot that kept you guessing.

Written so well, with lots of twists and turns. Kept you on the edge of your seat, never knowing where the story will go.. I'm Now set to read the another of his books!

The story in this novel reminds me of a Steven Spielberg adventure but with much darker undertones. Patch is a small-town boy who is used to being an outsider. He wears a pirate patch over his missing eye and is shunned by his peers except for a girl, Saint, another outsider. Both kids have grown up without much, but Patch and his mother are desperately poor. Saint’s mother finds her only escape in alcohol and pills. To make Patch feel special, his mother has instilled in him a love for pirates and pirate lore, even fashioning eye patches and pirate vests for him to wear. He adopts the persona of a pirate. The downside is that Patch is frequently truant from school and steals things. Patch grows older. One day, he stumbles upon a horrific scene. Misty, a wealthy girl in his class, is being attacked by a hooded man. Without hesitation, Patch runs to defend the girl, drawing his knife, which he has concealed in his belt. Misty escapes, tells the local sheriff, and they return to the scene with Patch and the assailant gone. Patch’s torn and blood-saturated shirt is the only thing left behind. Saint becomes obsessed with finding Patch and is convinced he is alive. She constantly annoys the sheriff, who assures her he is actively investigating leads. Saint then starts spying on members of their small community, thinking someone knows something. Meanwhile, Patch is being kept in a shed without windows. He is not alone. A girl is also with him. She tells him her name is Grace, and she does what she can to help him stay alive. Patch learns that several girls have been there before him. He has little reason to believe he will live. To say that the story is gripping is an understatement. The narrative has a few slow stretches and spans years, but that only makes the tension almost unbearable. With the many twists and turns, thriller readers won’t be disappointed. This is a novel for fans of Gillian Flynn and Ruth Ware.

Very good story a bit slow in my opinión too many details...
