You need an Avaya phone system for this phone to connect to. This phone will not work with any plain old telephone line. This one connects to something like the Avaya Office IP500.

I'm new to the voip phones - does anyone happen to know if this phone works with xfinity voice or does it require a different platform?

This phone is digital phone. Not IP phone. Avaya is formal AT&T and Lucent. It is No. 1 phone company since first day of telephone come life. Their phone only works with their system. You need to have IP Office system to make it work and possible connect to business VoIP vendor. But not something like xfinity.
