Do you have to have a mesh tent for them?

Once the caterpillars turn into chrysalis and are about to hatch into butterflies. You will need a mesh cage for the end of the butterfly lifecycle.

How many days does it take for them to hatch from when you receive the caterpillars?

We received our caterpillars on the 10th and they formed their chrysalis on the 22nd. It is supposed to take 10 - 14 days from then for the butterflies to appear. So total should be around 3 - 4 weeks. From the video, you can see when the chrysalis was forming. Very informative and exciting to watch.

Fabulous Critters for our Garden

My daughter (7) is super into critters and bugs. She had waited for these little guys with such anticipation and was so excited when they arrived! We were lucky and got a couple extra caterpillars, which all morphed into beautiful butterflies. One was unfortunately deformed, but that's because the chrysalis never attached to the top of the container's paper cover. But we are able to feed it and will keep it throughout it's little butterfly life! All of my kids found this super educational and cool! I will say that my daughter wanted to hold and handle her caterpillars but the instructions say to keep them inside the container until they form their chrysalis'. So that was a little bummer for her. However, overall a great learning experience and we'd likely do it again!

The easiest and least expensive way to let your child experience the lifecycle!!

This was a great classroom activity. We were given a butterfly enclosure and wanted to give the kids the experience but the full ready made kits are so expensive. This has easy to folly instructions as well as videos to watch if you needed them. The caterpillars do all the work. We had five beautiful butterflies to release. They hatched at different times and even though two fell off and we just hung them back on they were all beautiful and flew. We can’t wait to get more next year!!!

Arrived yesterday.

I received this in beautiful condition. The food that looks like sand was compact at the bottom and caterpillars on the wall. I bought these last year too and they produced well. I had a bad batch come earlier in the year and didn’t realize it was so wrong. Something went wrong in shipping and their food looked bad and no caterpillars arrived. I was being patient but I should have realized something happened in the shipping. Overall very happy!

Butterflies for science class

So I've purchased these 2 years in a row for my classroom. I've gotten about 8 caterpillars this year. All of the butterflies bloomed no case I got had a little butterfly den and then I just safety pinned the little paper that they attached themselves to to the top. If they fall down it's okay. Kind of just tip them back up. Standing on the side of the cage and they'll come out of their cocoons
