This book will change how you look or think about trees and other living plants
The Hidden Life of Trees, illustrated version, is an exceptional book for yourself, and a fine and intelligent gift for people 10-100+. The photography is breathtaking, and the writing and knowledge is deep and transformative. I cannot look at trees and their network of companions and helpers in anything like my former state of awe, but profound ignorance. I never understood why insects bit a piece of leaf and left, but now I understand why they flee. My heart goes out to the trees stuck next to streets and sidewalks, without any awareness of how their lives are stilted by the choice of location. And massive trucks, with their tank-like wheels, that roll in to cut and harvest after fires, or just anytime, CRUSHING and Compacting the soil, so MUCH less water will get to the newly planted, or current living things that make up any healthy natural environment. Anyone to whom I have ever gifted this illustrated version has been amazed at the wonders within. Never goes out of style, always nurturing to you and the world. Enjoy!

Stunning photography, well-written and informative.
When this book arrived, I had just made myself a cup of tea and was taking a well-deserved break. Upon opening this book I was immediately struck by how the images selected enhanced the knowledge the author was sharing with his audience. The combination of photographic composition and text seemed to literally take me along on his journey of discovery!

Lovely!
Beautiful book. The trees have much to teach us regarding our interconnected relationships. Mr. Wohlleben captures my heart with this book.

One of four of Wohlleben's Hidden Life of Trees - three books & one video documentary
Beginning in 2016 with the English translation from the German of Peter Wohlleben's The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate: Discoveries From a Secret World, he's made a cottage industry out of this one subject, although he's gone on to explore other topics from nature. The Hidden Life of Trees: The Illustrated Edition has been joined by the youth's Can You Hear The Trees Talking? Discovering The Hidden Life of The Forest as well as a 45 minute video which highlights certain aspects of the life of those elusive trees, primarily in Germany and British Columbia. I've read all of the books, via the library, and did buy the video. I bought this illustrated edition as a gift for my arborist for thirty years of devoted attention to the fifteen or so mature trees on my 15,000 sq. ft. city lot. Once or twice a year we walk around the yard to size up the trees' condition, catch up on diseases which might harm them, and discuss which needs a climb to remove dead limbs. The book's photographs are eye-catching, such as the 9,000+ year old tree in an unlikely location, and instructive, such as the shortened life of city trees exposed to light at night. Each of these four tree treasures really compliments the others. Still best to take them all in.

Took this book out first from the library, loved it so much I bought a used copy of the book. I love it. I feel so relaxed reading the words and picturing all the nature that's written about. Hardcover and oversized table book. Written in 2015, but still as relevant today. Author is a forester who came to appreciate the beauty in the trees and nature that surrounded him daily.

What I missed most in "The Hidden Life of Trees" was pictures of the trees and forests discussed in the book. This illustrated edition of the book would have been the perfect companion. It now has pride of place on our coffee table and it continues to keep the magic alive.
