from looking at this I don’t understand how it works. What do you sit on and what aids you in standing up?

Prior to buying "Sara" I found a short video on a website showing a person using the device. Assuming that assist is not available, here's kind of a three step approach. Everything below is keyed to photo of device.
1. Note the blue panel, mounted vertically above the platform approx. a foot. This is the patient's knee pad.
2. Note the handles [highest point on device] which are used by attendant to control the device, etc.
3. Note the two blue panels at top of the vertical frame. These are the two sides to the seat on which the patient sits once in place on the device. You can't tell it but the seat sides pivot to the outside of the arms on which they are mounted.
Now here's whatcha do assuming the patient is on a bed or other platform in a sitting position.
Step 1. Rotate those seat pads to their outside position and they will essentially be vertical [item 3 above] and out of the way of the patient's mounting, i.e., getting on the device.
Step 2. Push Sara's front wheels [they steer to allow turning, etc] under the platform holding the patient, inserting the wheels until the the patient can stand on the platform with knees against the knee pad.
Step 3. The patient stands on platform, knees against the pad. The attendant then rotates the two seats back to the position shown and patient sits on the seats.
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT DEVICE. I bought after a hospital nurse advised me via telephone that my wife [80- year old lady] who had not walked for a year was able to dismount the hospital bed and stand on platform, etc. This was during the Covid paranoia and I could not get in the hospital to see anything. Yeah, this is expensive but a sine quo non for the non-ambulatory patient. Hope this helps/Jim

I would need to pull hard on the bar to stand up as I have bad leg muscles. Is this possible or will it tip?

It won't tip but you have to have someone help you with device as the locks have to be down when you stand and another person has to lock and unlock it. My husband can't stand, walk or pivot and I can move him from chair to bed easily with this device. He still has good arm strength but his knees and legs are week.

This comes unassembled,right? And it comes via free shipping?

The Sara Stedy arrives fully assembled on a pallet via freight shipping at no extra charge (When purchasing from Med Mart). We recommend saving your packaging until you are sure this product will suit your needs incase a return is needed.

Question 4

is it possible to ship to nursing home? She just lies there all day and they don't get her up.

I doubt it. It would be too much for them to unpack, it’s on a pallet. You’d have to bring it yourself.
