Calming Hemp Chews Can Help Dogโs Anxiety Issues
Iโve been trying out Strella Labโs CALMING HEMP CHEWS for a variety of situations, like stress and anxiety, that can affect my Yorkie and my four Chihuahua senior girl dogs, all who weigh between 5- to 8.5-pounds. One of my Chiโs, named Lilly, gets quite restless with a lot of unhappy vocalizing while traveling to the vet in her secured, open car seat. In addition, Lilly gets nervously anxious while seated on my lap in the vetโs lobby while waiting for her turn to get her yearly physical exam. She literally pants and โtalk-howlsโ with repetitive, loud โWah-Wah-Wahโ wails. In addition, she varies between trembling, pulling away, and then getting stiff as a board while having her nails periodically trimmed by the vetโs technicians. Last week, Lilly was scheduled for her yearly wellness exam, along with nail trims, so I gave her one of the CALMING HEMP CHEWS about a half-hour before we left for her vet visit. Much to my surprise, Lilly was much calmer and relaxed in her car seat while I transported her to the vetโs office. There was barely a sound of complaint. In the waiting room, Lilly was more relaxed than usual and just had several little whimpers. After we were in the exam room, I didnโt tell the vet or the tech that I had given Lilly one of the CALMING HEMP CHEWS prior to the visit to see if they noticed any uninfluenced differences in Lillyโs demeanorโฆ and they did notice! During her physical exam, Lilly was calm and chilled out with the vet. Then, the tech, who is familiar with Lillyโs anxiety issues, picked her up and carried her to a back room where she trimmed Lillyโs claws. When the tech handed her back to me she told me that Lilly was remarkably calmer and much more cooperative than she had been during her many previous nail trims. I was astounded that the Calming Chew had actually worked! I have also tried giving the Calming Chews, on a daily basis, to my four Chiโs and Yorkie who will often obsessively lick or chew their paws or exhibit signs of PTSD. Of note, my scratchy Yorkie, named MaMa Dawg, takes prescription Apoquel tablets every 12 hours for her itching allergies, plus four of my dogs, including MaMa, take an OTC allergy tablet every 12 hours for their respiratory allergies that are related to genetic tracheal collapse issues. All of my dogs are rescues that I adopted over the years, with several that came from a variety of difficult situations, such as hoarding, the death of their owner, or being dumped at a facility. What I did notice, after a few weeks of giving my dogs the Chews, was some decrease of their licking and/or paw chewing habits. That said, any relief that they can get is a plus. My packโs alpha dog is a tiny, but mighty, Chihuahua-Corgi mix, named Little Babe. She is a very out-spoken and persistent barker in the vetโs waiting room, to the point that we almost immediately get banished to an exam room so that the receptionists can hear clients calling on their telephone system. Yesterday, a half-hour before Babeโs yearly wellness vet visit, I gave this little 5-pound tornado a Calming Chew to see if it would reduce her ear-piercing barking in the vetโs lobby. In this particular case, the Chew did not reduce Babeโs barking because she wasnโt anxious, she was simply a determinedly bossy brat-doggo who wanted every person and animal that entered the building to know that she was the Queen, present, and in charge. The CALMING HEMP CHEWS are heart shaped, which is cute, and my dogs all like their taste. Because the chews have Ginger in them, they could possibly help dogs with sensitive stomachs while traveling. Thereโs also a number of great, calming-effect types of familiar herbs that are included in the Chewโs formulation such as Valerian, Hemp Seed powder and oil, Chamomile, Passion Flower, L-Tryptophan, Melatonin, and Thiamine Mononitrate. However, be sure to read the disclaimers printed on the jarโs label that warns that the Chews have not yet been proven as safe for puppies under 12-weeks old, pregnant animals, or those intended for breeding. Thereโs also a printed caution with the concomitant (meaning concurrent with or something happening or existing at the same time) use with sedatives and MAO inhibitors (meaning monoamine oxidase inhibitors that are types of antidepressants), as well as a caution with using the Chews in conjunction with CNS (Central Nervous System) depressants. Of course, in these instances, consult with your vet first. Additionally, which should be common sense, do not give any Calming Chews prior to a dogโs sedation or anesthesia and the Chews are not meant for human consumption. Do note that the amount of Chews, that can be given every 12 hours, are based on a dogโs weight thatโs clearly stated on the label. And finally, be sure not to exceed the manufacturerโs recommended dosages.

Works well to calm my anxious dog
Initially my dogs were not interested in the treats because of the smell. They are particular, and did not care for this. I didnโt see another option for flavor, the one I ordered was bacon. It does not smell like bacon. I masked the flavor by giving them another treat wrapped around it, which isnโt ideal, but I will work with that since it works. The dose is accurate, I followed what is recommended for my dogs weight. The first time I used it I only gave her 2 treats because she is sensitive, instead of the 3 it recommended for a 55lb dog. It was not effective, and she was very anxious when we tried to clip her nails. The second time I used the product I gave correct dose and it worked much better. She does not like wind or thunder and we got a bad monsoon storm early in the morning this week. She was trembling and hiding, until I gave her the treats. It didnโt completely remove her fear, but I noticed she was significantly less stressed within 30 minutes of taking the treats and she wasnโt shaking afterwards. It did not make her drowsy or appear โdruggedโ. She was just overall more mellow and less stressed, which is a huge improvement. If only I could get another flavor that she would take without having to use another treat as incentive Iโd probably give this a 5 star rating.

Great product, but maybe not great for picky dogs
Update: My dog got groomed the other day and I gave him one of these 30 minutes before his appointment. The groomer said he was much easier to work with and not nearly as fussy about his feet and face as he usually is. ---- I got these because my dog gets really anxious during thunderstorms. It worked out because the day that these arrived, it stormed that evening. I gave him one of the these and he was definitely more relaxed. They are in no way a miracle pill that just prevents him from being scared entirely but he wasn't shaking in fear like usual though you could tell he was still not thrilled about it. I am going to give him one of these before his next grooming appointment and I'll update the review with how his groomer says he did. I did not notice any sort of digestive issues after he took them like I had seen in some reviews. Cons: They are very smelly and I can imagine if you have a picky dog they may not want to eat them but my little guy had no problem taking it.

Effective, Easy to Give Calming Chews
We were giving our dog Rx meds for loud thunderstorms. The problem with them was they took 4 hours to help. No good for the pop-up storms we've been having. I read the reviews and decided to give these a try. I wasn't sure our dog was going to like them. When I opened the jar, the smell to me was not pleasant. Thankfully, she thinks they're a treat. And the best part is they really work! She calms down in about 20 minutes when she used to be very uneasy and sometimes shake in fear.

Not expected effect but not bad.
These actually made my corgi a bit more extroverted. I was surprised she didn't run upstairs into the back of our walkin closet when we heard the first firework. That could mean she was more calm but she was almost hyped up. It wasn't bad, at least she wasn't quivering. I think I expected her to be "chill" haha. This could very well be the effect of the chews. I was most worried she would have stomach issues as she's VERY sensitive to foods. Doesn't digest well so I was concerned she'd have diarrhea from something new and she didn't. I will try again next thunderstorm.

It really works!
This stuff really works for our dog. We give it to her when company is coming, when there are fireworks outside, and when we are leaving her alone in the house. Makes her calm and in many cases, she takes a nice nap.

One of our little poodles developed an issue when driving (mostly with my wife!!! just kidding) He gets anxious and crys. We have tried other brands even graval .They hardly work. This one completely relaxes him but, now we have to force feed him as I do not think he likes the feeling. We only use it on longer rides . But it definitely works.

Bought this to calm our puppy down, but didn't calm her down at all, she' still crazily energetic. I also gave it to our 4 yo golden lab. It smells horrible, I couldn't bare to smell it, some might like it but I can't stand it (smells like a mixture of mold with grass). Our puppy, willing to eat anything ate it, and our 4 yo isn't exactly picky (though she dod hesitate when I first gave it to her) so I have no idea if it tastes good. After giving it to them they started scratching and I noticed hives and rashes on them. I just stopped giving it to them, hopefully the hives and rashes will go away asap. (Our 4yo tried hemp prpducts before but never experienced any reaction) Anyways... Didn't work for us

These smell terrible. Like really really bad, but im not eating them soooo. Give 3 to my 60lb before I head out for work. She has terrible separation anxiety. These seem to calm her down to the point she just lays on the couch until I return to her. 4 stars only because they smelled bad.

These have been great for calming my dog when I leave the house. The only thing Iโve found is there seems to be a tolerance buildup. Not something you want to give them too often. Maybe once a week. Otherwise they donโt seem to work well
