5 Albums Promise/Immigrant/Discover/The House of Dolls/Kiss of Life

great selection and just what I wanted.

I live in the USA and purchased this 5CD box set (along with similar box sets by Fields of the Nephilim and Love and Rockets) via Amazon UK, at a significant savings over the prices offered via the Amazon USA site (where they each were listed at over $50.00 a piece). The voices of the brothers Aston are an acquired taste, and may be offputting to some, but overall, I think most of the music included is top notch and sounds great. Although I already own the 2005 2CD reissues of "Promise", "Immigrant" and "Discover", this package is well worthwhile for inclusion of the original full albums and bonus tracks of "The House of Dolls" and "Kiss of Life". There is a distinct difference in the guitar playing of I.C. Hudson on the 1st two albums (a more slashing, droning approach), and James Stevenson on the latter three albums (a more hard rock guitar style, with some atmospherics), but I like both quite a lot. James' style probably made their sound a bit more accessible to the mainstream, even with those otherworldy voices of Michael and Jay crooning or wailing over the top. The rhythm section does a great job throughout! I credit Beggars Banquet for doing a tremendous job of compiling these classic GLJ albums with great sound, in a very nice package at an affordable price. As others have noted in similar BB box sets, the liner notes are limited to the band, production and song writing credits for each album, so it is a bit sparse in that regard, but the overall package is well worth your time if you're already a fan or just interested in their early/classic band output. This is some of my favorite "alternative" music from my college days. Peace and enjoy!!

Came today and always have loved this great band from the start but the first 3 albums were in LP & got damp so finally replaced them and have all 5 as well as their new one DANCE UNDERWATER

Why were this band not HUGE in the UK ? At this price you can't go wrong or you could go for Voodoo Dollies (Best of) for a quick taste before you buy this.

Comprehensive compilation from this group... Highly recommended especially when your a fan... Love all the extras added to each album...

Arrived very quickly and was made up to relive my youth listening to this on the way to work. Very good value too.

Excelente box compilando os álbuns essenciais desta banda que representa uma das mais criativas mesclas entre o Glam Rock tipicamente inglês e o Post Punk. As composições variam desde aquelas com guitarras cortantes, baixos densos, minimalistas, vocais desafinados e lamuriosos àquelas com inegável acento pop e romântico, melodias dançantes e refrões que se imprimem imediatamente na memória. Excelente para quem gostar de Love Rockets, Tones on Tail, Bolshoi, The Mission e outras bandas nessa linha.

Esta muy bueno, me saco de onda la presentación por qué pensé que el empaque sería más grande, pero está bien y sobre todo lo compre por los cd de immigrant y el de promise pues los otros ya los tenía. Pues soy gran fan de Gene loves jezebel

Llegó en perfecto estado. Por ahora solo he escuchado uno de los álbumes. Un imprescindible para los amantes de gothic rock ochentero.
