Very well made, heavy duty construction. No annoying concentric knock-outs. Receptacle is already mounted and ready to be wired and of high quality. Pad lock included. And at an excellent price. Iโm very happy with this purchase.

The box is sturdy and includes the 14-50R receptacle which is compatible with my VW Level 2 charger. I like how it comes with three different sized conduit connector plates, and the connection can be installed on any of the various sides. The receptacle was compatible with 6 AWG wires and the screws on the receptacle provided a secure connection. The depth of the box is nice and provided good value for the money since it included the receptacle. The ground wire is secured to the inside of the box for added safety.

I'm not an electrician, but I'm very handy. With that out of the way, I was looking for an exterior, surface mount box to house my Hubbell outlet, which I already bought. If you do any research, you quickly learn that using your typical $10 NEMA 14-50 outlet to charge an EV, something that it was never designed to do, can cause fires. I'd also prefer something weather and tamper resistant. I simply couldn't find anything out there that checked all of the boxes, but figured I could buy this and modify it to my needs. I didn't use any of the knockouts, simply because I didn't want to use an LB, so I drilled a hole in the back. There is very little space for wiring, so make sure if you're going to do this, DRILL THE HOLE NEAR THE BOTTOM!!! If you drill it in the middle, you won't be able to fit the outlet back into the box, because the outlet will be pushing on the wires. I used 6AWG wiring for my 50 amp breaker, and the wires are simply too stiff and you need to enter the box from the bottom so that the outlet is clear from the wires. Next, the plate that holds the outlet is not big enough for a Hubbell outlet. The included NEMA 14-50 outlet has a diameter a shade over 2". The Hubbell, however, is almost 2.5", so I had to get a 2.5" hole saw to make the hole big enough, then I drilled new holes, bought new machines screws and fastened them in the back with lock washers and nuts. While I didn't take a point off, they should have made the plate large enough for the bigger, industrial outlets, that people are starting to use more, along with an adapter plate if someone wants to install a cheaper outlet. In fact, they shouldn't even include an outlet and let the customer decide which one they want. Then, they could drop the price a few dollars. With the lid closed, there's maybe a 1 1/2" gap between my EV plug and the inside of the lid, which is expected. Again, this was designed for a bigger RV plug. I would have MUCH PREFERRED they gave us that extra space in the back for the wires. Believe it or not, I actually think someone can reach in with their fingers, even with it closed and while they probably can't completely unplug it, they can pull it out pretty far. I might actually cut a 1" block of wood to fit in between the plug and the closed lid. but I'd be surprised if anyone tried to tamper with it. I took a point off for the lid, because there's no way to make it stay open, which makes installing the wires difficult. I had to tie a string to the lid (see pic) to keep it open during installation. I did a good deal of searching, however, and I think this is your best option if you're looking to surface mount an exterior outlet box and replace it with a Hubbell outlet.
