Simply Excellent
The ABBA girls have such amazing voices you've got to be pretty bold to risk covering a song, never mind 10 songs. Cher has also not chosen the easiest songs to cover here - you'd kind of assume Cher's singing style might more closely matches Frida's vocals but with the exception of Fernando, every song here Agnetha sung the lead on. Agnetha had such a wide range and the ability to just effortlessly float softly but powerfully across the notes so most of the songs here are very technical and challenging. Cher has picked some of the more tricky ones but I have to say some of my favourites which means she had a lot to live up to!Cher has done such an amazing job with project. To take on Agnetha's songs she's had to push herself and sing in ways she hasn't before. She's admitted taking some vocal coaching to get the best out of this album which is great because once again she's re-invented what she can do. This doesn't mean she's emulated Agnetha because this is very much Cher - but there's no short cuts, she's kept true to most of the original vocal arrangements which I think is just amazing as she's done it so well. She's taken on a lot of Agnetha's softer vocal performances but then combined them with her own style and power and the blended end result is still very much Cher, but with a new dimension.I've seen Cher on various interviews through the years, she's always fun and playful. This is the first album I've heard where you can immediately hear that in the vocals. There's all the usual attitude, there are some brilliant emotional performances - One of Us is so much more moving on this album than the original. But there's a real sense of fun about it all - there are quite a few tracks (Gimme Gimme Gimme, SOS, Waterloo) where you can just hear how much fun she's having singing them. Like Agnetha's original vocals, Cher has made it all sound very effortless and because of that you can heard so much depth - this isn't just Cher belting out dance songs, there's so much more contained in the performances and somewhere beneath it brings back the lively feel of her fun 70s recordings like Carousel Man and Miss Subway. This album should appeal to everyone. ABBA fans should enjoy it because she's stayed true to the original style. Cher fans should love it because it couldn't be any more Cher. But I think anyone would love it because it's taken ABBA, then kept all the best bits and then breathed a more retro-modern feel into the songs. Cher has made this fun, chilled out, great to listen to and shown everyone that she is still timeless while taking on something few would even consider trying.

Listen to the music the song she’s singing lol
To be honest I’m not a grate fan of Cher’s music but I do love the mama Mia films and she has done an excellent job of this cd and I enjoy it very much. They have a slightly different sound to the original tracks and the tracks in the film which was a welcome surprise and made it worth spending the extra on this cd. Listen to the examples and decide wether it’s worth a look that’s what I did.

Ok... It's 4 1/2 stars... Keep reading
Anything by Cher and/or ABBA has to be great... I'm still listening to the whole album with A LOT OF ATTENTION... I can understand when Cher says she had to struggle with one or two song... Contrary to what may seem, ABBA is in no way easy to sing... it's simplicity made difficult... But she does deliver and pretty much of the songs are a treat... There are some where she "twists" them a bit, others are almost the same as the original arrengement... And although her now famous and much-used autotune works in some tracks, it fails in others... I may be wrong, but I'd bet she did struggle with One of Us... And felt comfortable with Chiquitita... That's why it's a 4 1/2, but going on a solid 5.P.S. Sorry Cher... But you're great anyway and your agent was right when he called and said "You're doing Mamma Mia 2. It's going to be great for your career." He was right.
