It Does the Job but.....
I am not computer savvy, on the spectrum I put myself at 5/10 in terms of computer literacy.I bought this unit based on other reviews. I only bought it to play Blu-ray discs on my computer. Just plugging it in the computer does not recognize the Blu-ray discs. I downloaded the free version of Leawo which you can find on the web. That downloaded fine and within a few minutes I was able to play Blu-ray discs but....The disc is playing in Japanese. I don't see how to change it to English. On my regular television/Blu-ray system it plays in English. You have limited control with the mouse. It wants you to use the keyboard or a remote control. The keyboard is cumbersome and doesn't seem to execute all functions. I have not figured out this virtual remote control.I've only had the unit a few hours so take my input with a grain of salt. I do recommend the unit because it will do what is required.

Quirky to setup
First, when setting up this unit it must be powered on before plugging in the usb cable. On my pc, if I did not have the unit powered on it crashed the pc. The unit comes with two short usb cables, one for power from a usb slot and one for usb device data. So, without the usb power cable plugged in it draws power from the data cable and may cause a system reset. My solution was to get a low cost usb to 110v converter and just leave it plugged in all the time. The unit works fine reading Blu-Ray or dvds. Have not burned any dvds. No problem with win 10 drivers.

Just what I needed to watch BD movies
This BD drive works well with the free Leawo BD player. Just make sure you install the Java run time libraries after downloading the player. I was able to watch my first BD movie right after that. To turn on the subtitles of the movie there is a hidden menu bar at the top of the screen; just move the mouse cursor to the top of screen to display the menu and click on the left most icon to enable the subtitles. Another way is to right click the mouse button while the cursor being on the screen to display a more comprehensive menu. So far, I am happy with this purchase.

Excellent seller
you need to have blu-ray player software like powerdvd 12 or arc total theatre 5 or else it wont work.. it is fully compatible with Windows 8. it installed out of the box and I only used 1 USB cable because I have USB 3.0 slot. you need a program to play blu-ray movies; PowerDVD did not work for me as it required an "update" for it to play blu-ray discs. My solution was to get the Leawo Blu-Ray Player (a free online download, and trust me it is a legitimate program), which plays my movies just fine. This is definitely a good buy.All in all it is agreat device.

Good deal for the price.
It works pretty well, but the remote is finicky. Still, it's a good value.

Pay for what you get
Bought in August of 2018 and started off being able to play both Blu-ray and DVD movies. In December, the drive would not read Blu-Ray discs anymore (DVD still works). Tried it on multiple computers but still only reads DVDs. A lot of the negative reviews show that the drive just stops working all together after a few months so buyer beware.

Doesn’t actually play most dvds and no blue rays
Did not work for my windows 10. It plugged in and opened a program easy enough, but no blue ray programs would get my blue rays to play and most of my DVDs didn’t work either. I literally could only watch finding Nemo out of the dozens I tried.
