what do i treat this with to prevent the builds from sticking to it (i messed up the original)?

Your builds are supposed to stick to it. Work on getting the proper distance from extruder tip to the plate...the putty knife included with the printer is used to gently get up under a corner then simply scrape and break the bond to the build plate and your project will come right off. If the extruder tip is too close to the build plate, it will cause the plastic to contact more of the build plate than wanted and will make projects hard to remove.

can someone give me specific instructions on how to use this? I'm really confused. also, does it work for ender 3 pro

What you would do is prepare the bare metal bed by making sure it's as clean as possible. You can do that by putting paper towels on top and putting isopropyl alcohol on it (70% is fine) and letting it soak for 15 - 30 mins before wiping and letting it dry. Then gently peel the the paper backing on the build surface, line it up with the plate and lay it down evenly. You should use a card to push out any air bubbles as you're laying it down. You can make sure your prints stick even better to the surface by using glue stick on it. You could use it on the Ender 3 Pro but I would not recommend it because the Ender 3 Pro uses a magnetic bed and build surface which in my opinion is better because it's easier to remove prints.

How does this work? Do you simply just clip it onto the metal build plate?

NO!!     It glues on with the sticky back it comes with.  i glued both pieces to a piece of glass one front one back, now its the same thickness as my mirror. When i tried to clip it, being as light and thin as it is, the nozzle grabbed it and folded/ bent it.

What's the best way to remove the adhesive residue from the build surface after pulling off the old build sheet so you can apply this?

Once or twice a week use 70% isopropyl alcohol and apply with a old sock... soak on sock and rub the surface down.. that's it :)
