It is what it is
It is what it is. I don't know what people are expecting, but this is what professionals use around a tub to prevent water that gets past your caulk line from falling behind the tub. It is literally Plumber's Putty made into a solid line. If you've ever used plumber's putty to put a drain in a new sink, you know it is not very sticky (about like chewed gum) and really only stays in place by compression, so your tub must nearly touch the wall(s) to make it stay. The advantage is it will never get mold and will stay waterproof forever. It is the last line of defense, not the first. Once in place you should be using thinset over it when tiling. I suppose you could use pure silicon to hold it in place, but I ended-up stapling through the top of it (it's just wide enough) into my wood frame to make sure it doesn't shift while laying tile. Maybe there's something better, I don't know, but this is what's used, and this is the best price I found.

Good quality
This seal was good, just the installation instructions for the tub are bad. If you don’t leave a gap around the tub between framing the seal won’t fit as it is supposed to.

I can see where it is useful for tubs that caulking doesn't adhere well to
A bit expensive for a strip of rubber with adhesive tape.. I can see where it is useful for tubs that caulking doesn't adhere well to. I wasn't able to use it due to the tub placement and other technical issues so had to return it.

Works great when you know what to expect
I'm not sure what all the complaints are about. This is intended to be like plumbers putty, not adhesive. If you haven't used this stuff before you shouldn't complain. I cleaned and dried my tub very well, warmed the putty, and applied the strip massaging and working it onto the tub. It worked like a champ and stayed put great. Its just one of many layers of water protection.

American Standard Universal Tile Bead Kit
I needed this in order to get a 'drop-in' installation of a new deep tub in my bathroom renovation, I have no doubt that this will keep my tub-to-wall interface leak-free for the life of my house...it also makes the tiling to the tub boundary very easy. If you get one of those new American Standard "deep-soak" tubs (and they are very cool) and intend to fit it into a standard three-quarter surround niche, then you ABSOLUTELY need this.

As advertised, but not useful for me
The product arrived as advertised, but this product was not useful for me and I did not end up using it for install. I did not have a perfect alcove size to within 1/4", so the bead would have gotten in the way of my wall tiles. I used a tube of standard bathroom silicone caulk instead.Good Luck

Not an ideal solution
I'm installing a tub without a tile flange in an alcove which will be tiled. The included adhesive tape stuck to the acrylic tub very well but didn't adhere to the flexible vinyl sealing profile well at all. I had some difficulty leveling the tub and installing the drain plumbing, and the vinyl profile didn't stay in position while I was making adjustments to the tub position. This is partly because the profile contains a foot that goes under the lip of the tub and might do a decent job of sealing water out if it stayed in place during installation adjustments-it did not. At this point the vinyl profile wouldn't stick to the adhesive tape at all so I tried gluing it to the adhesive, because the adhesive was very difficult to remove from the tub. However, neither silicone nor water based construction glues would stick to the adhesive tape. Perhaps a polyurethane construction adhesive would work but I dislike using them due to cleanup difficulties and didn't have any to try in any case. In the end, I spent 25 minutes removing 90% of the adhesive tape with a utility knife and will likely forego installation of the vinyl sealing profile altogether opting instead for a quality silicone caulk. I guess I'll eat the $50 spent on this since there isn't much left to return. You might consider saving your money and looking for another solution.
