Can you adjust how wide the door is cracked? I need something to use on closet (that has my small cat's litter box inside) to my big cat out.

No. I suppose if your door is a little wider, as in maybe a few mm, then yes because it'll have to open a bit more to fit, thus making the space a tad wider. Unless you have a tiny kitten, your cat will not be able to squeeze through. I have a purebred Bombay, and she is always looking for trouble lol She's also very lean and can squeeze through just about any space. Thus, the Door Monkey! I bought one to keep her out of my bathroom, but also to allow ventilation. I love the fact that I don't have to lock the latch EVERY time I walk out of the room! It's hands down one of the best little investments I've made. I would go so far as to call it a lifesaver. If you need a wider space, I believe there are fish shaped, rubber or plastic latches sold on here that would be perfect for letting kitty in, whilst keeping puppy out.

Can this be used for front doors? We want to use it for our front door since our daughter has figured how to open it by herself.

Here ....Prime-Line Products U 9888 Flip Action Steel Door Lock, is another lock that is simple and will work on an exterior (opens inward) door to prevent a child from opening the door

is this one made of metal or painted plastic?(i have used the plastic ones and my son can break thru...)

Plastic, they do break. My 1 year old and 3 year old both broke one each. When they were affordable, no worries, but at $13 each now, they aren’t worth it.

Question 4

Can a  3 1/2 year old easily open this? I have a 13 month old that I want to keep out of the bathroom, but I want my 3 yr old to get in and out.

yes.  Your 13 month old could open it from one side (the other would be harder but doable).  I would just keep it high enough on the door that the 3 year old can reach it, but not the 13 month old.
