can you stack several slides at a time

No, it only feeds one at a time.

My slides are 2x2. They do not fit. Putting them through the back is time consuming. Any suggestions???

You need to push the slide in from the top, one by one. Viewers are really designed for close observation, one at a time. I've gone through hundreds of slides using this equipment. The process can be much faster using a projector, if you have one. You can also use a converter, but they are expensive.

I'm having trouble pulling off the bottom of the unit to replace the batteries. I don't want to force break anything. Any suggestions? Thnx!

it should come right off if you are moving that slide to the side. maybe stick the end of a fork in there and give it a little help.

Does the image appear at the top of the viewer?

The slide appears recessed inside the viewer. The image you see is not at the top of the glass. You can see the mount around the slide. It's about even with the slot where you insert it. The image is magnified 3x, but not projected to the viewing screen, so it is still pretty small.
