Mastering the Nikon D600 (The Mastering Camera Guide Series)

I found this book very, very useful. I still have my film SLR and so I did not need a book about the theory of Single Lens Reflex Cameras. What I wanted was an introduction to DSLR's and specifically how to set up the D600. DSLR's have a myriad settings for things that weren't even an issue with film. Using compact digitals for several years also did not help me since so many of the settings available on the D600 don't exist on compacts. I am getting better shots and am more confident messing around with settings since reading this book. Digital Darrel really does know how to explain things clearly, with just enough technical content to help you understand without becoming long-winded or boring. If you are going to buy a (or have bought) a $2000 camera it just doesn't make sense not to get the most out of it. This book will help you do that and so represents great value for money. I recommend it without reservations.

I got this book to help me figure out some issues with aperture priority vs shutter priority settings. It goes into great depth (sometimes almost too much) on every single menu item - and that's a lot! My only complaints are that he doesn't tackle the camera's physical settings (knobs and dials) and, because I purchased the Kindle version, the illustrations are in B/W. I've owned the camera for more than a year and this is the third book (counting the owner's manual) I've read, yet he taught me some great new techniques.

Mr.Darrell Young commands a wealth of technical expertise on the subject matter as well as the ability to lay it out In a manageable patterns as to make understandable and useful to the owners and users of this instrument. He has covered every nook and cranny on this camera in an order and fashion as to enable the reader to grasp and use it quickly and effectively. I bought the D600 as I have bought many Nikon cameras with no malice and little fore thought, after beginning to see the complicity of this wonderful camera I submit there.is no way I could have gained the control in years of trials and error as I've accomplished in perhaps two weeks with this book. I say throw away the Manuel from Nikon (not literally ) this book is all the perfect guide and reference Manuel needed. A thumbs up five star recommendation.

This book is extremely comprehensive! It is no wonder it is one of the best selling books in its category. I'm not a very avid reader, but I can honestly say I read every page of this book. Not only is the book full of useful hints and tricks on how to get the most out of your camera, but it teaches you how to use manual mode proficiently and just how to all around get the best shots possible from this phenomenal tool. I am very very happy I got this book. I even tend to take it with me from place to place to leave in my hotel room in case I want to reference something or recall a nifty trick that I forgot. This book is a must have for any D600 owner and photography enthusiast.

If you have a D600 you need this book. MASTERING THE D600 shows you is a straight forward easy to understand way just how this camera works. It explains the how and why for just about every setting for the D600 and with enough samples and graphics that anyone can feel comfortable with this magnificent camera. I already own Mr. Young's D300 book and thought enough of it that when I ordered the D600 book I bought both the paperback version and the e-book. I like being able to take it with me on my iPad for easy reference when I'm in the field shooting with my D600. If you own a Nikon D600 you'll be more than happy if you buy this great resource.

This book enabled me to get a better understanding of my camera and its capabilities. Great read, and continues to be reference for picking up new skills and getting out of auto mode.

I have purchased several "how-to" books in the past that explain DSLRs and their use. Some were better than others but none had the depth of information in all areas that this book presents. Darrell Young not only dissects every setting available so you can use your camera to the fullest, he also gives great information regarding areas such as understanding RAW and JPEG files, White Balance and converting camera files to other file formats. He really does grasp the technology involved in digital photography and conveys his knowledge in a way that you can put it to use in your photography each and every time you go out to shoot pictures. Great book and well worth the money.

The D-600 book was average, not what I expected. Too much rambling, too much on Video use. Previously, I had bought David Bush's Book on the Nikon D-5000 and found it to be an excellent book a big improvement over the Nikon Manual. The Darrel Young "mastering the Nikon D600 not as good...really no good setting info and example shooting as my previous experience with the Bush D-5000 Book. To some extend felt like I wasted a few bucks, and spent as much time with the Nikon Manual as with muddling thru the Mastering the Nikon D600. I fell for the Hype on a new Camera.

Finalmente si ha la possibilità di scoprire i "segreti" di questo attrezzo, D600, senza dover seguire il manuale ufficiale che pur completo non è, e non potrebbe esserlo, di facile e scorrevole lettura. Assolutamente un "must" per i possessori del gioiello Nikon. Il formato Kindle consente l'averlo sempre con se installato in un tablet. Io lo ho installato su iPad per averlo sempre al seguito.

If you want to know how to set up and operate a D600, I don't believe this book can be beaten. Darrell Young - if his mum and dad hadn't invented him, God would have had to. Young is one of those rare birds who are prepared to spend endless hours in super-geek mode, delving into the minutiae of a device but who then can emerge and explain what they know in terms that the rest of us can understand. I've graduated through the ranks of digital cameras somewhat reluctantly. As a pro, having used all formats from 35mm to 10"x8" film cameras, where the only three camera controls are aperture, shutter speed and focus, grappling with a seeming infinitude of options and settings was either extremely irritating or downright depressing. It was certainly getting in the way of shooting pictures. A Nikon D60 is a comparatively simple DSLR to master. I managed to get my first decent DSLR shots without going any further than a pick-and-mix from Ken Rockwell's web page on it. The D7000 I got next was a different matter altogether. I got Darrell Young's book "Mastering the Nikon D7000" and all was revealed. It was like Moses bringing the tablets down from the mountain. When I got a D600, the first thing I did was sign up for advance purchase of Young's D600 book. This is, essentially, his D7000 book with the additions and amendments relevant to the D600, as so many features and controls are common to both cameras. The really great thing about Young's book is that not only does he go through every single aspect of each option, control button and menu item, explaining what they do and how they work but he explains WHY you would want to use the control or set the option to obtain a particular result. This is what no manuals ever do. At the end of the section on any control or option he gives his recommended setting or explains what setting he uses and why. This means you have a sound basis for making your own choice - or using his and seeing how it suits you or not. I can't think of anything he's missed. Each topic is covered in the same thorough but plainly expressed manner. For anyone with a Nikon D600 [or any other that he has written about, in fact] you will find this book really does make operating these computers with lenses stuck on the front far less daunting or baffling. You will be able to get the best from your camera, rather than just get by. The only thing I would pick up on is that he mentions that the book has been produced to be convenient to carry around in a camera bag. As the book is 547 pages of good quality paper [with excellent and comprehensive illustrations], I doubt anyone would do so. It's the book to work through at home, with the camera to hand, going through the topics until you really know which way is up with your DSLR. This it will most certainly help you to achieve.
