How strong is the magnet?

Initially, I didn't think it was strong. But I put out on the roof of my truck, 70 mph on freeway for an hour and it stayed.

I ordered this antenna but the plug does not fit the radio outlet... this one was suggested to buy with radio. I’m not sure If I’m installing it right

You need to get the adapter that fits that antenna cable end with your radio. There are many to choose from so make sure you get the right one.

What's the best police scanner antenna?

Barjan 910-753 works very well for me. I ran those on my 18 wheelers. eBay sells them. Has a Very wide band spread.

I bought this to use as an AIS receiver with an RTL-SDR radio, for testing. Popped up on the cabin top and it worked on first try. I've ordered a second radio for permanent installation on the boat, will keep this antenna for testing and as a backup for AIS and for handheld radios. As a temporary mounting, a big steel washer and I can attach it to the cloth dodger on the boat in a flash, perfect for temporary testing or as a backup antenna.
