Hydro-Stone Plaster for Scenery, Dioramas, Dentistry and Mold Casting, Also Great for Model Railroads & Gaming (15 Pounds)

The Reasonable Reviewer family has been doing casting and molding for many years.For our most detailed, important casting work, we use Hydro-Stone (or Hydro-calc).The product is not cheap, but the results are better than any other plaster that we have tried.A few words from the wise to the wise.If you have never done casting before then I recommend you learn the ropes using a less expensive plaster that is more forgiving with mix ratios, etc.Here are a few lessons learned from years of using this product.The instructions that come with the product give you weight ratios for water::plaster. It is much easier to use volume ratios. It is simple (water) 1::2 (Hydro-Stone). Start with the water in a container and slowly sift two times as much Hydro-Stone into the water. Once you get to the two-to-one ratio, you can mix.I recommend using mechanical mixing. Attaching a popsicle (craft) stick to a drill works fine.You will want to mix the slurry for at least 2-3 minutes. More than five minutes, and you start to run the risk that the plaster will harden before it gets in the mold.This plaster sets rock-hard, but it takes its time. You will want to let it rest for 2-3 hours at least, and overnight is better.This plaster is not cheap, but it is going to produce the best looking casts that you will see, and the products will last forever.

Mixes well with water and it dry very Hard, this product is very Heavy. I would not use this for a Hobby. I used Plaster Cloth and Sculpture Clay.

I was able to consistently pull these thin flower petals from my molds due to the strength of the hydro stone. I kept running out, and the company almost always shipped early so that really helped! Value, was awesome
