Over 20 Years Later, and I still absolutely ADORE the Halti!!!
I don't get why this product has such a high return rate, unless people may have gotten the wrong measurements for their doggo. But oh my goodness, it's still as amazing as when we were first introduced to it in 2001! Back then, we had a 100 lbs Labrador mix who was crossed with all kinds of ornery, and even after obedience classes and all kinds of training, he would pull so hard he'd regularly yank me down to the ground, break free from my grip, and take off for adventures around our neighborhood (namely running to the nearby cow pasture to roll in cow patties. Which really stunk. Washing cow poo out of dog fur outside on a cold autumn afternoon is not fun, would not recommend). I'm not exaggerating at all when I say the halti collar saved my dog from being dropped off at the shelter, because my parents were just about fed up with the stubborn boy. But then our vet recommended trying the halti collar. And man, was it a game changer! All of a sudden, we could easily walk him! There was no more tugging, pulling, or knocking us to the ground. We could actually get him to heel. And, with positive reinforcement, he grew to love it, even running up to us to put his muzzle inside the halti because he knew it meant we were going out on another delightful walk! And here I am now, over 20 years later, finally ordering my second halti collar as my last one sadly bit the dust, and it's just as good as all those years ago! My Caucasian Shepherd/Pyrenees cross is doing great with it, and I'm so grateful to be able to be able to experience the wonderful joy of using a halti with a large dog all over again! I love how they've improved the design, with extra padding in the halter around the nose area, as well as the fabulous added safety strap to help prevent the halter from slipping off the muzzle! It also has added reflective material which my old one did not have. And, after just a couple of positive training sessions, I'm already noticing a difference in his tugging, and I'm controlling him with a lot more ease. If you have a big dog or a hard to manage dog to walk, I absolutely encourage you to get the halti! It has been a favorite dog walking collar of mine for over 2 decades, and I plan on continuing to use it in the years to come. Definitely recommend!

Immediate results for reactive dog
*****1 week update***** TLDR; 6YR old rescue dog goes from being an animal-aggressive/fearful/reactive dog to a being a better citizen I can walk around the neighborhood with the Halti headcollar as a training tool. My original review was more product related and discussed pulling. Had to update because it's more incredible than I realized. My boy would either lunge aggressively, flip out in panic, or scurry away and pull hard when he would spot another animal on a walk. It has been a scary 9 months where I have often feared and dreaded taking him out because he is big and has attacked others (thankfully not too severely because I have good reflexes). He is usually good with basic obedience commands but would go into a blind rage or panic thrash and become impossible. I did a couple of weeks of giving him kibble as soon as he laid eyes on another dog. It helped a bit, but wasn't perfect because he wouldn't take the treats gently when in a tizzy. Then I got this Halti. I spent a few days correcting him for his bad attitude (tight leash, quick tug, and stern vocal correction AS SOON as he looks at another dog funny, or his posture gets stiff, or he goes into hunt mode -- shut that down, which wasn't possible with normal leash/collar corrections.) Successfully walk away for a few yards? Sit, "good boy", treat, keep going. He fought the Halti the first couple of times that he wanted to flip out, but soon realized it was a fight he would lose. Consistent and immediate corrections all week... started giving him treats and "good boys" for being more calm about walking away from dogs the next couple of days. It's amazing. I'm still careful and keep him a few yards away from other animals, but we went to the local park today at dog walk o'clock and he was amazing, I didn't even bother with treats. He's definitely getting it now: that 1) I do NOT want him to react or fixate. 2) He's not going to win fighting the Halti. 3) the other dogs are not all out to get us. 4) walk away from another reactive dog? Extra praise and good boy kibbles for being the bigger dog! (He's overweight so he can't always get treats, but I sit him down and give him affection instead sometimes, then keep walking.) He saw many dogs at the park today and did not lunge at, bark at, or whine and pull from a single one. He was a little weary of a couple but didn't freak out at all, just kept glancing at them cautiously but walked away knowing what was good for him. Anyway: 5 stars. We can live in peace now. I hope if you're a reactive dog owner who has come home in tears of frustration, that you will give this a try for your dog and believe in their best self (also beckman's dog training on youtube - very helpful if you're not sure where to start.) ***** My 64lb border heeler is wearing a size 2 (he's overweight) and generally is not trash on a leash. At a distance of a few feet ahead of me, he usually won't pull AS badly as some other dogs I've had (unless he sees a cat/squirrel/dog, then he goes NUTS), but if I tried to get him to walk next to me or focus on me and find me, no luck. Just got it yesterday, that video our first walk with the headcollar and double ended leash (that I'm not sure I'm using right frankly). I used treats when putting it on. I pulled him away easily (you pull - dog listens - and gentle motions do just fine, no need to be harsh at all) or distracted him with treats when he tried to take it off mid-walk a few times. He's annoyed that it works. I love that it works. Seriously, I'm barely holding the leash and he is not pulling, so I'm amazed. I stop, he stops. We're turning together 😭. Seems comfortable enough and build seems good, too. Size 2 is perfect according to the Halti size recommendations for a cattle dog, but I did measure him just in case since he's a mix. I'm hopeful that, along with the treat conditioning I'm doing with him when he sees animals on walks, it'll help his reactivity and make walking him less stressful.

Great halti collar!
This has been a life saver for me! This makes it possible for me to walk my 90 lb lab who is very strong and loves to pull. I never thought I would be able to walk him by myself but this really did the trick! We’ve had it two years and it is still in good condition. Very adjustable because of course our lab started using this as a puppy at four months old, and he’s almost 2 years old now. Would definitely purchase again if I needed to because it works so well.

Reliable but broke after 9 months
Our first one lasted. 3 years. Bought this one April 2025 and the buckle broke only after 9 months. This product has always been reliable that I’ve already ordered a new one.

Awesome dog product!!
Oh this is a game changer. Everything about it is awesome. My daughter’s 1 yr old golden retriever was pulling like crazy on walks! She’s being trained to be a service dog, so when I brought the issue up to her trainer, she recommended the Halti. She used one on my dog during a session and that dog stayed right at the trainer’s side the whole time, lol. The trainer advised me on what size to get. She also advised me to “stick to the real Halti” and not get a knockoff (yep, I guess I’m promoting the product, lol). I ordered it right away and as soon as I put it on that pup for a walk, she was fighting it.😂 She tried “wiping” it off on the grass along the trails and even on my leg!🤣 She gets excited to go for a walk, but once she sees that Halti, she knows she’s not going to be pulling like she used to and walks away from me, lol. She’ll get used to it eventually. And if not, oh well! It’s getting put on her until she learns to behave, lol. It’s an awesome product and I recommend it to anyone. I was going to get the pup a prong collar (the trainer uses one on her Cane Corso), but the trainer told me to try the Halti first, and if that doesn’t work, then by all means get the prong collar.😁 Finally I’ll say that it’s easy to use and there are videos on YouTube that show you how to put it on a dog. The material isn’t too thick; it’s sturdy and soft. It’s worth the money (which isn’t too bad of a price) and it comes in more than one color.

It broke with less than 2 months of use
It was excellent in the beginning it helped a lot with my dog pulling, but it broke with less than 2 months of use.

So easy to use, and completely helped our dog's intense leash pulling on walks.
Game. Changer. I was convinced that I was just destined to have my arms dislocated by our blue heeler on walks, but this head collar completely changed our walking game. It came as a recommendation from a good friend who is a vet tech. We eased our dog into it by allowing him to wear it for short periods in the house, building up to walking the yard, then full walks in the neighborhood. His pulling has drastically improved to the point I can walk him with much greater ease. It's easy to put on and take off, and it remains securely attached to the collar. It's definitely sturdy - the material is thick and durable, yet soft enough to be comfortable for him. Love that it comes in so many colors as well. We wound up needing to size down because the vet tech pointed out it was a bit loose, which explains why he could figure out how to pull it off his face if he turned and pulled away from us. Thank goodness it attaches at the collar too!

I love the Halti!
I love this head collar. I watched a bunch of videos about it and trainers either love it or hate it. Personally, I LOVE it. Before getting the head collar, I had used a prong collar with varying effectiveness. The Halti changed all that. My dog is 65 pounds of untrained muscle and exuberance. He was a rescue and didn’t know any basic commands or how to walk on a leash. I am 71 years old and in decent physical shape for my age but there’s no way I can hold him back if he gets reactive. With the Halti, I have more control over his head and nose which also translates to body control. He very quickly realized he couldn’t pull with the head collar, and for me, it is much more effective than the prong collar for controlling him. Do I have to snatch the lead like some trainers fear will happen? No, not at all. If he gets out of position or too triggered by something, all I have to do is pull his head into me. It’s totally not necessary to yank his neck around to regain control. Be sure to take the time to acclimate your dog to the head collar. I wish that this information had been better conveyed to me, because, in desperation I put it on him and went for a walk. The video is his response and subsequent temper tantrum to using a different brand of head collar. I subsequently purchased the Halti and have been more satisfied with it. Fortunately, he is getting better and better with using the Halti. I will repeat myself again…. Please be sure to take the time to acclimate your dog to the Halti BEFORE using it. The headcollar is well made without sharp areas that might rub a sore spot on the dogs head. Choosing a size can be a little tricky depending on the shape of the dogs head. I ended up buying the next larger size so it would fit his face better. Great product. I love it! I highly recommend it as part of your toolbox of training aids!
