Annoyed Fitbit user is convinced
It took me a long time to find a good new smart watch. My main issue was BATTERY. A Fitbit needs to be charged every day! And it never charged enough during my shower to last for the next day. I loved my Fitbit otherwise, but stopped using it because I refuse to have to think about charging a watch every day. Right now and after over a month of use with all my options and apps set, my Garmin can last 10 days!!! And I receive my texts and calls, morning alarms, it's connected in Bluetooth to my phone nonstop, so it vibrates a lot. BATTERY 100/10 AMAZING Then the functions of course. I'm a geek and love gadgets so I had a lot of fun looking through faces and apps and shortcuts and all. It can be daunting for non-geeks. In the end I settled for a lot of the Garmin apps because they work great! I really wanted a Torchlight option, with different colors and a SOS option because I'm into surviving any situation. I got the Magic Rescue app, which I do not like very much but it lets you save 3 emergency phone numbers for you or for rescuers, in case you lose your phone. My favorite is Brighty. It has different brightness and colors and a SOS option that can run until the battery dies, exactly what I wanted. I set up a button shortcut for it so I have a Torchlight handy on my wrist. There's a lot to say about that watch. The reviews saying it takes too long to launch an activity must be technologically inept, as you just need to swipe left? Or touch the upper button? (You can change the function of these buttons like I did but from the get-go, activities are RIGHT THERE). Issues: - smart alarm is not great. I had an app on my phone 10 years ago that detected the end of my sleep cycle accurately and woke me up then. The watch has been pretty random, and also vibrates once and that's it? Not happy with that function. - bluetooth disconnects very often. It's a pain as I use my watch at work, where I cannot check my phone, so not receiving texts because of a Bluetooth issue is really annoying. It's an easy fix but still. - some Garmin apps measure your body temperature, but the watch does not have that option. It's ok, just a little bit sad about that parameter not being available on my brand new expensive watch. - I got the white bracelet and it's already dirty. It's a bit annoying, as I expect high quality. It's ok. - does not detect and start an activity automatically. My Fitbit would detect that I was walking or swimming (even though it thought I was swimming when I was folding laundry). My Garmin just does not start, even though I saw that setting, and told it to start the activity 10 minutes after it was detected. It also does not stop it either. Please make an update as I do not always remember to start the activity before I walk (I walk a lot and all day) or swim (I just forget). Maybe I'll review the options and settings again, because I really want this to happen. When you do start a hike, the watch makes a neat little map, and will help you find your way back to the starting point if you get lost (yay survival!) Cool things I didn't know I needed: - controlling my Spotify and Google maps on my watch! Seeing pictures I am sent by text, on my watch! This is so damn cool. I am not an Apple person besides the iPad so I feel fancy at a lower price. - again: When you do start a hike, the watch makes a neat little map, and will help you find your way back to the starting point if you get lost (yay survival!) I love my new watch! I hope it lasts for a couple of years.

So far so good!
After being a Fitbit loyalist for a number of years, I made the switch to Garmin after the recent hostile Google takeover of the Fitbit platform. I went with the Vivoactive 6 because I wanted to have a decent number of functions without being overcomplicated. I was kind of “meh” about it at first, but after playing with settings and finding my groove, I’m officially in love. First off, like most Garmin models, it’s advertised as having “up to” 11 days of battery life. I imagine this would only be achievable if you were using it solely as a watch and had most/all tracking settings turned off. When I first got it, I left Move IQ turned on—this is the setting that auto-detects activity like walks and runs when you’ve been moving for at least 10 minutes (or however long you specify). I got about 6 days of battery out of that first charge, which is what I was getting on my Fitbit, so I considered this acceptable. But I decided to experiment and try some new settings after the second charge. I disabled Move IQ, which means I now have to manually start and stop any activities when I’m doing them. I like that you can create a quick access menu of your most common activities. This really isn’t so bad—the trick is just remembering to do it 😅. Sometimes I’ll go for a walk and forget to start it. The watch still tracks the steps and reads the elevated heart rate, but it just won’t say “YES HELLO YOU WENT FOR A WALK” afterward. Which is kinda silly, but oh well. You know you did it. I got 9 days of battery life this time and still had 10% left when I charged it, so I think I’ll keep using it like this. The sleep tracking has seemed accurate so far; Fitbit used to do a good job too until the Google Health transition. Heart rate has seemed more accurate as well; there were times when Fitbit would say I was only at 80 bpm when I could check manually and tell it was at least 120. There are so many things you can customize, whether it’s the color and layout of the watch face or which metrics are displayed on the watch, in the app, or not displayed/tracked at all. I love a good aesthetic. So anyway. I’m very pleased so far. My tricks for conserving battery life are: - keep Move IQ turned off and manually track activities - disable Always On Display during activity - block notifications from any unnecessary apps (by default you’ll get ALL notifications from your phone—I set mine to only get texts, calls, Messenger, Teams, and calendar reminders) - set a Do Not Disturb timeframe overnight

One downside; but it can be fixed!
First I’m gonna explain the only downside: the band that it comes with is very uncomfortable and irritates your skin. I was actually considering returning to watch because of it was so bothersome; but I ultimately opted to buy some stretchy nylon bands from Amazon, they’re cheap and come in a pack so you can change them in and out whenever. And I’ve had no issues with comfortability since the switch. The positives: I’ve had this garmin watch for about 5 months now to monitor my sleep and health, to help track real time metrics for my health conditions. It’s durable, hasn’t broken or had any issues. Both the screen and the app are easy to navigate and read. It also syncs data to my Apple health, such as my sleep data. Functions great. It’s definitely worth the money. I use it every single day and only have to charge it once a week, and it charges pretty fast.

Worth the investment
I received this as birthday gift and I love it! It tracks my heart rate, sleep patterns, steps and how much body battery I should have based on the stress I've encountered through the day. It does so many more things but the functions mentioned are the ones I love the most. The setup of the watch is super easy and the app is easy to navigate. The battery on the device lasts 5-7 days depending on how much overnight sleep monitoring I do. The fit is so lightweight, it's durable despite smacking it against the wall a few times, has been water resistant when getting too much water on it and worth the money.

Garmin Vivoactive 6
This is my first Garmin. I was a FitBit user and had four of them in 10 years. Last one was a Charge 6, which I loved, but I noticed the lifespan getting shorter with each device, and finally decided to ditch FitBit since it's become a google product. My first thought was to go to Apple Watch since I have an iPhone and other Apple devices. But after doing some research and seeing Vivoactive 6's battery life, price, and all the fitness tracking features that are important to me (as someone getting back into running in my 50s and also an avid hiker, walker, and occasional elliptical user), it seemed like a great choice. And it is! I've been wearing and using this watch 24/7 (except showering) for 3 weeks and love it. It's an awesome upgrade from the FitBit. It does all that my FitBit did and SO much more. It did take some time for me to figure out all the functions and settings, but I took my time and learned a few each day. During that process I found out how customizable this watch's screen and menus are - from color choices, to adding and removing features (you can just as easily get them back if you change your mind), to which features/menus you like to have readily accessible. You can even arrange them in the order you like best. On top of all the useful fitness stats and sensors (too many to list individually!), it shows the weather (current conditions, and forecast), has an old-school calculator (remember the calculator watches of the 80s?? me ✋🏼🤓), a nifty flashlight function with 3 levels of brightness, and my personal favorite - the compass, which doesn't need to be calibrated. It's accurate, and works independent of your phone. Very handy to have when I'm hiking. I wish it had an altimeter (available on some of Garmin's higher level smartwatches), but at this price point I do realize I can't have everything. There are many other functions with this watch - these are just the ones I find pretty useful to have, literally, on hand. For reference my wrist circumference is 6 inches. Highly recommend this watch if you want a quality and functional smartwatch where the emphasis is on fitness/health/workout tracking and stats, at a reasonable price.

Not bad
For the price point I'm a little disappointed on the heart rating when working out. It doesn't track it properly. Even when I do a light jog for 5 min my HR still shows unmoved. Other than that it functions well. The batter will last me about 5-7 days definitely not the 11 days advertised. I do use it while running 5km and I have music playing. I also use the workout function which is 4 times a week along with 2 runs a week. So, overall I'm happy with the battery life given the fact that I use it quite a bit.

A new Garmin fan from a previous Fitbit fan
New lover of Garmin smart watch! I have been wearing Fitbit forever in the last 8+ years. Sleep tracking was good but the connection between Fitbit and my iPhone/android phone was driving me nuts!! 50% time it won’t connect, and not receiving notifications. Looking back, I cannot believe I still stick to Fitbit after so many failures on the connections, and encountered so many frustrations. I was hesitated to switch after growing loyalty to Fitbit, but I was so glad I had the decision. The connection was perfect since I haven worn Garmin - able to track sleep, exercise, and all my smartphone notification without miss anything. I just regret I didn’t switch to Garmin sooner. The watch itself was very smooth to wear too, I thought maybe a little more noticeable in terms of weight and feeling compare to Fitbit versa4, but it doesn’t bother me. Now I declare I’m officially a Garmin fan.

Very comfortable but...
I have been using fitness trackers/smart watches from different vendors. I decided to switch because my last one was occasionally over-estimating my heart rate and sleep time. I pick Garmin because reviews are saying it is very good at tracking, even though lower end models including this one have Elevate Gen4 sensor, not gen5. And also, it has a good battery life and lightweight. This is my first Garmin. So what do I like about it: - it is extremely comfortable and lightweight indeed - both watch and braselet - tracking is very adequate except it sometimes over-estimate heart rate - see below - you do not need subscription to use it or see the history (but see below) - looks beautiful and stylish - the watch face I have found has day and night mode and in night mode it is very dim and drawn with thin lines - that is awesome! - buttons and navigation are nice So why only 4 starts? - charging cable is plug-in, not magnetic, and usb-c to usb-c - make sure you have a charger for it! - when it arrives, it needs software update. Do not even try software update from the phone - it downloads software for hours but does not update the watch in the end. Run updates from the watch. You might need multiple iterations. - faces it comes with are cheesy. Weirdly, you will need to install an additional phone app to install faces. Most of them are paid, but you can get some nice free ones. Watch out - some "free" faces will ask for money after a week of use. - there is a software bug in the app - you cannot add widgets like sleep to the main "at a glance" - only remove. You can still combine sleep from "in focus" with steps and heart rate from "in glance" but... This barely works. I mean, you can still find everything, but do you want to dig through the app every time you start it? "At a glance" is what we need, but config is broken. - the bracelet is too soft and it takes some effort to put the watch on a hand. First time I spent half a minute. Yes, it is really that tricky. Yet, you might not want to replace it because it is so soft and comfy once you put it on a hand! - the display is small. You might think it is as large as the watch face, but no, there are ridiculously wide dark borders around it. You can see it when you scroll the watch. The screen is still usable, but larger screen would be nice. After a month of use: Heart rate measurement is somewhat better than in 4x cheaper model from a different vendor, but not always accurate. Sleep monitoring is somewhat worse - there are both "false positives" and "false negatives" occasionally. As for steps counting - depends what do you need. If you need coarse counting - it can do it. If you need to walk 300 steps and do something and repeat - this overpriced toy absolutely cannot do it. For some reason, the steps number on the watch screen is updated every 70 steps or so, not in real time. So it absolutely cannot do some basic fitness tracker tasks. It still can show you time and heart rate and messages and can annoy you with some daily reports, so it is not completely useless. Much cheaper trackers from different vendors can show you steps in real time. But if accurate real-time steps counting is not needed - it is Ok tracker (though, very overpriced for the functionality it offers). I also added my workouts through the web site and tried to use the Vivoactive for workout. I gave up on the watch interface (no way to stop exercise without deleting, not stopping when it should, etc - very confusing). It also does not track exercises nearly as accurately as Garmin video claims, even for hands - very frustrating. I am still happy with watch quality, battery life, and how comfortable it is to wear. Update: it does not track daytime nap. Basic fitness trackers from the other brands do. Based on the functionality this smartwatch offers, fair price should be somewhere below $50.

Stupid watch
Smart watch it isn't. I often have to tell it I am walking and even then it may only record part of the walk. I would definitely not recommend this product.
