Truly Ultimate
This is the second "Ultimate Edition" that I've bought this month, and now, just as before, I am very happy with my purchase. I missed out on most of what the BATTLEFIELD franchise has evolved into; I think the last game I played was BATTLEFIELD 1942. This package was a great way for me to "catch up" and see what all the fuss about this game was truly about. I'm glad my expectations were set so moderately so that they could be broken in such an insane manner. BAD COMPANY 2 (4/5 Stars): This game is great, I can't stress that enough. If I had to pick between BC2 and CoD: BLACK OPS to take with me to a deserted island, I'd be taking BC2. But it loses a star because when I buy a FPS, I do expect a good campaign to go along with the multiplayer that will be inevitably touted. In this case, while the multiplayer is indeed stellar, the campaign still has some catching up to do. I never got a chance to play the first BAD COMPANY (something I hope to fix soon), but it wasn't too hard to figure out what was going on. The backdrop seems to have been carried over from the last game, but the story itself is fairly self-contained. The characters are fun, well-written and very competently voiced. I won't say they're particularly deep, because the story doesn't really allow them many chances to shine. Remember those awesome trailers from BC1? I kind of expected a lot of that, but just didn't find it. Since the story itself is almost cliche, sending you across South America to track down a secret weapon (that's it), I expected more out of the writing, but didn't get much more. On the whole, the campaign doesn't maintain the excitement or immersion that the first level provides. As amazing as it was, most of the following missions boil down to destroying entire villages, which, after a few hours in, just stopped making sense. Everyone in South America wants a piece of you, and their aim is frighteningly good, so you'll need to rely on your three (count them: three) squadmates to pick up the slack. Kinda sucks, because they ultimately drop the ball in that regard. The AI in this game is absolutely horrible. Sometimes they'd follow me, sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes I'd get halfway into a firefight and they'd just up and disappear. I'd walk through a tunnel just before one of them recommends, "Let's check out that tunnel." On several occasions, I'd just watch as they unload every round on their person, trying in vain to kill one guy who's been standing out in the open. And the AI of the enemy is just as bad, since they ultimately disregard my squadmates and attack me every single time, regardless of whether or not I'm actually returning fire. So...the campaign. Not quite a bust, but I can't really see myself playing through it again anytime soon unless I'm feeling achievement happy. There are some amazing set pieces throughout, but they're sandwiched in between long stretches of just-your-average-shoot-everything-around-you gameplay. But the multiplayer, that's another monster entirely. This is where the game really shines. The game modes are pretty much what you'd see in other games, but it's the Frostbite Engine itself that makes them great strategic fun. The maps are HUGE, and pretty much everything built on top of them is destructible and behaves realistically. Meaning: you can shoot and hack through a wooden fence, but you won't have the same luck with a concrete wall. If a sniper is hiding in a house, you can get a tank and bring the building around him, wall by wall, and to a point where it'll eventually collapse. You'll have to slow down and use strategy in maneuvering around these maps, which is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the breakneck pace of CoD. Factor in a whole bunch of unique vehicles, great level design, and a rewarding leveling system, and you've got a great online multiplayer experience that (for the most part) will be unlike other FPSs that you've played. BATTLEFIELD 1943 (5/5 Stars): I was so happy to see this was a part of the package. This is essentially a remake of BATTLEFIELD 1942, one of my favorite games from back in the day. Three maps are included (with Wake Island being one of them!) for the "capture the flag" mode, but there is also another mode, "Air Superiority," where you basically fly around and kill the opposing team. Basic package, but it's just as fun as it was eight years ago and was a real trip down memory lane for me. This "Ultimate Edition" also includes codes for VIP access to free BC2 maps and Onslaught Mode, which I have yet to play. Great package at a great price. This is a fantastic game with an addicting multiplayer element, in addition to some astounding technology powering it all. In so many words: beautiful, addicting, and fun.

A Great Game Just Got Better!
If you are on the fence about buying this game, do it! There isn't another fps game out there quite like it and is a welcome addition to any game catalog currently filled to the brim with COD. And if you've made it this far through my review, you probably have read other reviews of this game, so instead this review is primarily for for BBC2's expansion pack, Vietnam. If and when you do decide to purchase this game, be sure to download Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam from Xbox Live/PSN. I guarantee it is well worth your time and money. As I mentioned above, this game is quite different from that other popular fps and Vietnam makes it even more fun and unique. The sound, graphics and weapons are simply top-notch and you will find yourself engrossed in the beautiful backdrop of 1960's Vietnam while laying waste to your enemies (hopefully). Not to mention, the weapons are actually from the appropriate time period, unlike Black Ops. One more thing: Pretty much all of my COD-loving friends who have tried this game put it down after 10 minutes or so. Their reasoning: it just isn't COD. If you are in love with Call of Duty and wouldn't consider anything else, I highly doubt this game is for you. I play Rush (game mode) and one thing you will notice is that it starts off slow. But as you move along the maps, spaces become tighter, until you have around 20 or so players all fighting in the same cramped area. This is where the game truly shines. I can't really explain it, you just have to experience it yourself.

Better than Modern Warfare 2 and then some
Battlefield Bad Company 2 for the XBox360 is a gripping story for any FPS player. Aside from great gunplay, you can also drive vehicles, and use mounted weapons. Recommended for fans of the Battlefield series.

Great
I was actually questioning buying this game due to reviews I received from some of my friends, but to my surprise it's an amazing game. To me, it's immersible. When playing online, as I have done mostly, I feel the intensity. When you sit in a building away from the action, all windows and doors intact and you shoot, you can hear the echo of the shot through the room, and the echo from the shell hitting the ground. Footsteps also play a big part to me, when someone (an enemy) is sprinting near you, the footsteps give them away. The entire environment is destroyable. Buildings, trees, bridges, even grenades and mortar strikes make holes in the ground. I found the campaign to be fun, with a good story, but I began to lack interested a little after 75% in. It's enjoyable and starts off much like a film. Truly, worth the money. And you gotta buy Battlefield 3 when it's released later this year.

Deep Enthralling Multiplayer Experience
The Battlefield series has always been a great assortment of battlefield combat with large maps, class system, and vehicles. Battlefield Bad Company 2 evolves on such a successful formula seemingly balanced between realism and gaming. Unlike your run of the mill twitch-action shooters, BBC2 encourages players to play as a team rather than a multitude of individuals running a muck with only the intent to score the most points. Additionally, BBC2 filters the players into specific roles called classes; however, these classes do not restrict a player's ability to combat various situations outside their primary role. Battlefield Bad Company 2 also has a plethora of weapons you gradually unlock as you play multiplayer. Every weapon excels in their own way with only the player's preference really dictating which weapon performs better. The vehicles on some of the maps also feel well balanced against the player and vice a versa. Lighter and more agile vehicles such as ATVs or armored cars help the player engage the battlefield quickly and effectively while still being able to combat light infantry. Heavier armor such as tanks play more of a support role aiding other players against an overwhelming force. With heavier armor, the vehicles are exceptionally vulnerable to mortar strikes and infantry based anti-vehicle weaponry so it's best to work with your team. If you are looking for an engaging multiplayer team-orientated experience then Battlefield Bad Company 2 is definitely a great purchase for your library. There's not a whole lot that can be said about singleplayer, but DICE is most renown for their exceptional multiplayer components.

A nice break from the Call of Duty series
This game is a nice change of pace from the Call of Duty series, the Battlefield Bad Company 2: Ultimate Edition is worth every penny. If you are like most gamers (including myself) blinded by every single Call of Duty game released to date, you should consider taking a chance with Battlefield: BC2. I have been a huge fan of the call of duty series, from Call of Duty 1 for PC all the way to Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox 360, after the release of CoD: Black Ops I was tired of playing the same game and cried out for a change in a shooter that is not following the same footsteps. After watching the trailer and reading the strong reviews on this game I decided to take a leap of faith which may have converted me to the Battlefield franchise. Out of the box: For the price you get the retail game, Battlefield 1942 (arcade game worth $10.00), VIP which includes Onslaught (online CO-OP mode) and instant access to the latest maps. This version does NOT include Battlefield: Vietnam downloadable content. Single Player: The story was fun, offering a plethora of weapons, vehicles and a mixed cast of characters from different backgrounds to keep you interested but single player is definitely not the strongest point of this game. Multiplayer: This is were shooters make it or break it for gamers like myself, multiplayer is the reason I buy (instead of renting) video games. The matchmaking seems to be pretty solid, there are several classes to choose from (medic, engineer, recon, ect) each with their own strengths and weaknesses, DICE does a good job balancing these classes out. As you progress and level up within each class you unlock more weapons and attachments. Starting off as a new recruit online can be quite intimidating and overwhelming seeing as each player seemed to have better weapons and add-ons, giving them the upper-hand, but don't give up just yet. As you kill enemies you are given the option to pick up their class and weapon. Teamwork is the key to victory in Battlefield, if you don't have friends to play with, make some, it's nice to have a partner there to revive you and your teammates. This game has something so simple that most shooters seem to forget and that is GRAVITY!!! When shooting at a distance (especially when sniping) you have to lead your crosshairs above and in front of the enemy because your bullets will start to drop the further you shoot, headshots are not going to be as easy as Call of Duty!!! NO MORE CAMPING!!! Battlefield also has destructible buildings, we've all seen it or been victim to a kid sitting in a corner not contributing to the team, assisting in capturing points or flags, instead their more worried about their K/D Ratio, you now have a solution to those annoying pests, throw some C4 against the wall he's sitting next too or take your RPG and blow a hole through it, it's quite satisfying. The only notable flaw I see in Battlefield's multiplayer is the matchmaking ranking system, seeing as I'm not even a level 10 yet I still get paired up with the more experienced and even maxed out (level 50) players, which can be quite challenging and also annoying at times. In my opinion the graphics, multiplayer ranking system and lack of strong dialogue in the story mode are my biggest complaints with this game, I played through both single player and have many hours logged into the mutiplayer matches, do yourself a favor and try something other than call of duty. If you're a gamer like myself looking to sip something other than the Call of Duty Kool-Aid than give Battlefield a shot, a worthy contender to the Call of Duty franchise.

A good getaway from COD.
This surely ain't COD but, it's not bad. I feel overall it's better than Homefront though. Campaign: is short, graphics are alright, cool weapons and that you can bust down walls and bunkers, and fun that you can operate vehicles. Kinda generic storyline but has more humor than COD. Online play isn't as stressful as COD. Campers can't last as long either. Online graphics are ok. Kinda laggy. Sucks that you can spawn in front of the enemy. Good if it's you spawning behind them. Big maps, small team. Work well together or got skills, will win. Online weapons are good. Takes awhile to level up and make them better, making you better. 1943 mode is ok. Cartoony graphics but fun. Very much worth the money at the lower price. I'd choose this game over Homefront to get away from COD any day.

Less stressful and more fun than Call of Duty
I tried to get into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as well as Black Ops. But the multiplayer is too stressful. It's a game of fast reflexes and shooting the other guy before he does. The maps are small and claustrophobic which makes it very unfriendly for snipers. It is also impossible to remain discrete and stealthy. So I picked up Battlefield Bad Company 2. The multiplayer is much more to my liking and brings back fond memories when I played Battlefield 1942. Although not as fast and frantic as Call of Duty, it allows a TON more creativity on the battlefield. The maps are huge, environments are 100% destructible, and there's a balanced mix of flat fields with foliage for cover and vertical urban terrain. The maps are much more sniper friendly than Call of Duty but at the same time gives incentive to be all four classes (assault, medic, engineer, recon), which makes you not want to rely on a single class. The vehicles are ridiculously fun too and often necessary just to get to destinations across long distances. Strategy is much more open than in COD due to the several ways to approach your attacks. Playing as a lone wolf or in a squad, you can combine several tactics to get the job done. Utilizing the vast terrain, the destructible environment, variety of arsenal, and other elements can lead to many creative scenarios that keeps the experience fresh every time. In conclusion, if you find yourself feeling frustrated on Call of Duty, constantly being gunned down and having no ways to express your combat style, pick this up. You may find Battlfield Bad Co. 2 to be a more pleasant experience.
