such a wonderful book i can relate to some of the stories/mirroring my life i caught myself crying ,got a new lease on my golden years,,truly wonderful story telling

This is a cozy story that focuses on kindness and gratitude. The characters are very realistic while the store manager, Shiba, is idolized because of his beauty and personality. Each chapter focuses on a different character while being connected by the convenience store, Tenderness. Kindness brews through each person as they offer help to those struggling with their own issues. And from this kindness, gratitude and ease develop in return for the help that is received. The descriptions were both lush and soothing from the food, setting, and characterizations. I highly recommend this book, especially to those who enjoyed the Kamogawa Food Detectives series.

An extremely cozy read! I read this after taking a short break from locked-room mysteries. This year, I have really dipped my toe into Japanese fiction and have loved almost every step of it. If you’re looking for a light, easy read that is also short and comforting—this is a great book to start with!

Recommend as a beach, Reid

I love this book so much. Every chapter made me not want to put my book down. I love the way the author had beautifully described the scenery, food and characters. It was so close to him being that I live in Japan and it made me want to try the food that was described in the book. I even tried one recommendation that the character was mentioning. It was Yummy 😋

At first I didn’t think I was going to care for this book. But the more I read the more I liked it. It’s simple stories of people’s lives all tied to the convenience store. The respect for others and the integrity of each person was so refreshing. The more I read the more I wanted to jump inside the book to live in a place where people think about others before themselves.

Book came quickly

Really nice book, loved the storyline and gave a nice insight to life in Japan in a fun way. (I am trying to learn more about Japan for an upcoming trip but do not want to read only guidebooks)

This is such a charming book. I read it in the space of 24 hours. Everything about it makes you feel better, like it’s a gateway to a gentler and more peaceful world. Despite that, I love the realism and the dilemmas the characters face. Whatever horrible things happen, dreams that didn’t quite come to fruition, or insecurities, there’s always room to heal and connect with people. That’s the message I took from this book.

This is a lovely little book of stories…an intimate look at the everyday lives of people in Japan who all happen to be connected in some way to the Tenderness Convenience Store. Young people, old people, married people, single people. I got confused a couple of times but them reminded myself that in Japan people are referred to by their surnames as a sign of respect but when you get very close, you can use given name so be on alert for a name change here and there. 2/3 of way through, I jotted down notes to keep them straight. Wonderful characters!

It's such an easy read. And it's good to be a part of the character's lives and stories. It's amazing how something as simple as a convenience store became the interesting connection between people and their experiences.
