They could be one of the group of singers in the 1970's However, I like listening to their songs because they give me a feeling of relaxation.

One of my favorite groups of the seventies.
This group had some special songs that really reflected some of my feelings, when I was younger and in college.

20 Songs From Bread And 4 From David Gates.
When Bread came on the scene in the late 1960s/early 1970s they found a niche which apart from maybe The Carpenters, was not over populated. That niche was Soft Rock with clear, clean production throughout and nearly all songs of love or lost love. One or two songs fell into sentimentality, Diary and Aubrey, come to mind, but the vast majority are top class songs which come across as effortlessly as breathing! The cream of the crop is 1972's Guitar Man and 1978's Goodbye Girl. The former challenges The Carpenters Goodbye To Love, also from 1972, as the first Soft Rock song. To be honest I can't split them they both get 10 out of 10 from me.Goodbye Girl is a classic Singer/Songwriter tune which I don't tire hearing. So if you want to go back to the 1970s, this CD will certainly help.

David Gates and Bread. Man! I hate that title.
Ok, maybe I'm being political here but as far as I remember, everyone of the songs from the Bread catalouge was originally sold as "BREAD" not "David Gates and Bread". I understand that there are song from Gate's own catalouge here as well, but please. C'mon! There would have been no Bread without James Griffin. You'll remember him as the other principal singer songwriter and co-producer in Bread. Larry Knechtel, a member of the Wrecking Crew with his outstanding wah wah guitar work on "Guitar Man" is the icing on the Bread cake. His musicianship on multiple instruments saves the day for Bread so many times . Mike Botts drumming through out is solid and more then appropriate to give Bread the ultimate pop feel. This is truly a band that (like the Beatles) had four strong honest musicians that contributed to make Bread a name synonomus with the 70s.But Bread should no more be referred to as David Gates and Bread then the Beatles should be called Paul McCartney and the Beatles. It's an insult to the other members. Would I recommend this album? Well if you can't buy all the Bread re-releases (which is what I would recommend) then save your money and buy "Retrospective". It better represents Bread in my opinion.David Gates and Bread? Give me a break, pleeese.

Bonus tracks missing
I researched a few songs which are supposed to be on this CD as bonus tracks (Avenue of Love, I Can't Find The Words to Say Goodbye, etc). The inside back of the CD case even reference them, but in reality they don't exist on this disc - very disappointing, as they are the primary reason I was purchasing this disc. Other purchasers beware. Yes, the rest of the material is great, but also available on other discs.
