I was so happy when I received this book . To me it is a sweet memory/souvenir from my trip to New Orleans, I fell in love with that book first time I saw it in the store. For all those who love blues, and books, this book is for you, An item! Thanks and great service from Amazon.

I wish this had concentrated on the works of poets from the 1920s and 1930s.... by including musical lyrics and poems from the 1960s (R-rated) and Haikus it really watered down the the sort of collection I was looking for. However, there were several good ones, including "Note on Commercial Theatre" and "The FB Eye Blues," but most of the good ones are in the first part of the book.

Here, the poet brings us the inherent heartbreak, humor, and timeless wisdom embodied in this most American art form. A rhythmic tribute to the music and emotions of sorrow and wry acceptance.

This work should be made part of everyone's blood-and-bones-and-brain: the most essential poetry, wisely collated by Kevin Young.

Enjoyed the poems. Was also happy that Jamaican poet Walcott was included

Great little book with a large variety of poems & lyrics on the theme of "the blues". Lessons from the darker side of the street; beneath the street lights. Its an interesting place to drop in and out of from time to time. We have all been there at some point. Strong transitory feelings, emotions and thoughts. Just like the blues. And by extension life itself. I recommend that you stop by and reacquaint yourself by reading some of these gems from the gutter!
