How do I attach things to the drive axles?

I use them in my class with middle school students. We stick pen tubes over the axels to extend them. works pretty well.

Are these motors reversible, and if so do you just reverse the polarity?

Yes exactly just flip the wires

Can the motor spin freely without current applied like a bearing, but when current is applied, it torques?

You can backdrive it, with significant resistance; so it's not a wormgear. But to backdrive it takes about all the force I can comfortably apply with my fingers to the nylon shaft. I would not say it spins freely like a bearing, but it will spin.
