Yes the brush separates from the handle. If you hang the brush by the handle the brush can fall off and crack subsequently the bristles on the crack fallout. So always hang it up using the rope on the brush.

can this brush be used in the shower, or only dry? does it ;ast as long if you use it in the shower?

Only dry, but it’s the best, since using this I’ve not had itchy skin. It helps with flaky dry skin too but still have to use a good lotion or moisturizer. I’d hate to live with out this brush.
