Amazing
I’ve always loved the books which have a trading academy of sorts in them. Where the characters learn skills and interact accordingly. This book does that for me quite well. Sort of like a James Bond Academy of Spies set in the future. The SF aspect also quenches my thirst. Finally the Christian aspect is starting to unfold mid story and is very well told. Absolutely couldn’t put it down after a certain point. Came home from work read while eating and instead of watching TV I snuggled next to the heater with hot chocolate and my puppies with music in the background and read for quite sometime finishing the book. Great time!

Not quite what I expected
I read a blurb that called this book a cross between The Hunger Games and Left Behind, which sounded amazing, but it honestly left a lot to be desired. As a believer, it felt like the person who wrote this book knew next to nothing about end times and has only quickly skimmed the book of Revelation. I found myself shaking my head constantly and saying "this book is so weird." I bought this book with the intention of also passing it on to my 14 year old son, but I'm definitely not going to be doing that. There's several places where the main character describes different women's bodies in a pretty vivid way that I just wouldn't feel comfortable having my teenage son read. There's enough sexualization being thrown at our kids today. No need to add to it. The last 1/4 of the book actually picked up and held my interest even though the content was way out in left field Biblically. Even though it ended on a cliff hanger of sorts, I'm not sure yet if I want to read the next one.

His writing pulls you in and doesn't let you go . . . forewarning . . .
J. B. Simmons is truly a very gifted writer. I don't mean this lightly. I LOVE his style of writing. It pulls you in and doesn't let you go. . . forewarning.Unbound is his third published work, book one of a new series, and so far my personal fav from him.Being aware of the world's craziness and living in the 21st century where technology has taken over, I enjoyed how Mr. Simmons wrote the future so believable. It's not like Star Wars, indeed futuristic, but strangely real.Unbound is told through Elijah's point of view and he is a fun character. He's Jewish, but holds no faith, is training to be a spy, and has these crazy dreams that mean something really big. Right away you like him and I enjoyed following him in this adventure. It was great being in his head. All of Mr. Simmons character's felt real and he did a really nice job on having a variety of people with different backgrounds. This book is for YA, yet I recommend if for readers sixteen and older. One curse word, which wasn't too bad and it does have romance, but it's all pretty clean.Cons . . . I don't mean this in any disrespect, I really don't, but the only con I can give is the authors view pertaining to certain events in the book of Revelation, such as the 1000 Years of Peace, which I believe has not come to pass. Now I believe in the book of Revelations just with different opinions from what is told sometimes in Unbound. He has some great history and it all flows in nicely, but I want to warn the reader to be a little cautious about some of it. I wasn't too pleased with the ending. With that being said, please look into the book of Revelation for yourself and decide. Remember Unbound is fiction, woven with some truth, so don't take it all as literal. J. B. Simmons is indeed a Christian, I don't doubt that. :-) He has written a great tale and I have enjoyed it, but with all end-time fiction a warning of caution is good to have.I look forward to book two,and I look forward to more books by J. B. Simmons.

End of World Techno-Thriller!!
If no one else can see it, then the horrifying object's not real, right? This is Elijah's struggle in Unbound by JB Simmons. Elijah has strange and terrifying dreams of the end of the world. Applying to be part of the elite International Security Organization, he meets up with Naomi, a part of an underground cult. Will Elijah's curiosity and growing love for Naomi cause him to join her side as the ominous forces use a form of high technology to track, train, and control those around them?As I hurtled like a rocket through this fast-moving tale, it was hard not to feel like a confused pinball, being knocked by events on all sides, as I, the reader, desperately tried to figure out who was on which side in order to what? warn Elijah? rewrite the story so it would come out all roses for him? Unfortunately, I, like Eli,was subject to the darker forces the writer had in mind. Always the tension. Maybe Elijah and his forces would come out the victors. However, in the back of the mind is the fact that it is hard to be a victor without Jesus Christ, and Elijah is not ready to make that decision. Hence the even greater anxiety created for both readers and characters.Quotable: "'Technology is a cover up...' "It makes the world faster, more efficient, more open, but better? In some ways, yes, but it obscures what matters most:the soul. anyone can play god with a microchip in the head. You spend enough time playing god and you forget there's a real God up there.'" Even though our society doesn't have as much technology as is in the book, this statement could still be true of us as people who think we have so much knowledge available to us now. We think we're invincible, the masters of our fate.Of course, this is first in a series. Happily, the second is due out any day, and mine is on pre-order. Buy them both and be further ahead in the game. Read Revelation while you're at it, and see if you agree with JB's portrayal of end times. It certainly is breathtaking!I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review.

A must read. Great story. Just bought the second book. I'm off to read it now....bye!
I just finished reading 'unbound' and immediately ordered 'Clothed with the Sun' two minutes ago. I loved the story that much. I am absolutely giving nothing away. You need to read it to know the story. It is beautiful and I'm sure you will love it as much as I did.I can say however, that J.B Simmons' style of writing is so fresh and captivating. You become truly acquainted with the characters and the story line without too mush fuss. The characters are real and likeable, the technology angle very believable (we are in a digital age after all). The religious angle is truly what makes it a winner for me. You do not have to be a believer or a Christian to appreciate the story, although if you are, it gives you a different way of looking at the story of the end of times.I love Elijah. His character is unpretentious and straighforward.I like the fact that I don't know much about the 'Order' or their main purpose.....yet!So I'm stopping this review to carry on with my reading. Enjoy Unbound. Catch you by the third book maybe.....

It was a pretty easy read
I don't usually read this genre, but I was curious. It was a pretty easy read. I'm not crazy about the Christian focus, but it wasn't over the top religious, and I would read the next in the series.

Enjoyed this apocalypse read
I love a good future story, but am not one for apocalypse genre, but I have to say I really enjoyed this one. It drew in semi-believable technology, a world I could well imagine, and played in some "what-if"s coming off of the poetry of the Book of Revelation. Really enjoyed this read - which surpassed even me.
