I lost my sense of smell . This is potentially a life saver ...
I accidentally knocked the knob on my gas cooker . Due to my terrible sense of smell that doctors on the NHS seem to be incapable of sorting out , I couldn't smell natural gas. It took my daughter coming in and saying "can you smell gas ?". So I went looking for a gas alarm. Well this has now solved that problem. I tested it by putting it next to the gas cooker and turning the gas on . It worked, but my nose still doesn't. Let's hope I don't go deaf too, then I will be stuffed ...

Good alarm, speaks in Chinese - Edited
This is the second time I have purchased this Gas alarm. The first one lasted around 6 years but suddenly stopped working yesterday without any warning. Ordered a new device from Amazon and installed it today. It seems to be working fine, but one problem is that the built-in voice alerts in this alarm are in Chinese, so I am not able to understand anything that is being said, including the message that is played when the alarm is switched on and is initialising. There is still a flashing red light and a buzzer to alert in case of any actual gas leak, but the voice messages in Chinese are not useful as I don't speak the language. Edit - I wrote to the manufacturer through the Amazon UK website requesting for instructions to change the language of the voice prompts from Chinese to English. This was 2 days ago but they have not replied. However I discovered from the Instructions Booklet that in the first 2 minutes when the Alarm is connected to the mains and the switch turned on, pressing the "Test" button quickly changes the language from Chinese to English. I was able to do this so problem sorted out.

GAS SAFETY
This is an easy to install alarm. Just plug it into the mains electrical supply, but follow the instructions to place it properly ie if the gas is natural or LPG. The alarm will activate itself/ There is a voice telling you what it is doing and also a visual display. This would be ideal for anyone that has sight or hearing problems. This device gives you peace of mind if you have a gas supply in your property or caravan.

Cannot trust it- Faulty/not sensitive enough.
I bought this as a replacement for an existing natural gas alarm (still working but showing signs of scorching on the case) for my elderly mother. I fitted it in the correct position as shown in the instructions (see photo 1), plugged it in and waited for the alarm to "warm up" as per instructions, then tested it by turning a cooker gas tap full on. This alarm DID detect that gas was present by way of the digital display showing a maximum of "3", but there was not a peep out of the alarm, even after 3 minutes - not good, NOT GOOD AT ALL. I ventilated the kitchen and after letting the alarm go through its 3-minute "warm-up" procedure again, repeated the test by holding the alarm over the on (but not lit!) cooker burner and it DID sound out after about 40 seconds. As a further test, I replaced the new alarm where I had put it on the wall, hung the old alarm next to the new one (see photo 2) and repeated the test- gas control full on and unlit. The old alarm sounded off after 70 seconds but the new one didn't sound off (the digital display DID show "3", so it had detected gas). As such, I cannot trust this alarm to do what it is supposed to do- warn my elderly mother that a gas tap may have been left on - maybe this one was faulty. I have returned it-and hopefully this review may warn others to be careful before relying on it - TEST, TEST, TEST before you trust.

Limited Battery Back Up Makes It Unsuitable For Caravans & Motorhomes Unless On Hook Up
Overall this appears to be nicely made. However the battery is difficult to fit unless you do the following. 1.Remove the slide on/off mounting plate at the back. 2. Open the battery compartment door and keep the connector to the left. 3. Connect the battery with the connector on the left and slide the battery towards the left so that the right hand end of the battery can then fit snugly into the compartment and is pushed down slightly. This allows the door to be refitted. However when you read the instructions it says that it is not suitable for caravans. I suspect that this is because the battery back up will only last 1-2 hours. The device would be fine if you always use hook up. For this reason only I have returned my device.

How Do I Reset? Why False Alarm?
Seemed excellent on set up, long lead perfect. But, this has given 2 x false alarms in less than 2 months. 1. Not sue why, is it faulty? and 2. How can I switch off alarm and reset. Thanks
