Does this get rid of smell

While I have never had to use this to get of an existing smell, I have never had any odor problems while using this to clean my water softener.

Is this OK to use in a Kenmore water softener which has both resin and activated carbon in the resin tank?

Can you use this with the potassium pellets in there or is this only be used with machines for salt?

I think it is for salt only, but I'm not sure. The information on the label is good for how to use it and what to do if you swallow it, but that's about all.
