An absolute MUST for hot summer days
4 YEARUPDATE 2022: It's been 4 years since I've purchased this portable AC unit. I've been using it everyday, when it's not summer I simply use the built in fan for air flow when I'm working and white noise when I'm sleeping. When it's blazing hot during summer I have the unit blasting cool air in my home office while I'm working and when I am done for the day and want to chill outside of my office I can run my central air and save A LOT of money on my electric bill. This is an absolute must buy if you're looking for some AC relief without breaking the bank. I will without a doubt buy a brand new one the moment this thing breaks down on me but it's been going strong for 4 years now and I still can't see it breaking anytime soon! ORIGINAL REVIEW: The central air in my house is broken and it would cost me nearly $7,000 to fix it so I decided to pass and buy this portable air conditioner and it gets the job done for a far less price. It’s only been a couple of days since I’ve used this thing and it’s been a LIFE SAVER. It gets up to 110F where I am and this ac unit cools down my room within minutes! I set it to turn off after 1 hour to save energy. I don’t expect this thing to cool down my entire living room but I always go to my room after work and I’m satisfied so far. My only complaints is the less than helpful instruction manual to set this up but you can get an idea on how to install this thing from YouTube, my other complaint is that it’s fairy loud but honestly the benefit far outweighs the cons so it gets 5 stars in my book. I’ll be sure to update my review if I encounter any problems, but as of now I’d highly recommend this unit if you want to beat the summer heat every year. UPDATE 08/19/18: It has been about 2 months since I’ve bought and used the unit now and I still stand by what I said about this device, it is a LIFE SAVER! My area has been consistently hot all summer with temperatures ranging from 99F - 107! And not once did I ever feel the summer heat indoors. This was definitely worth the purchase and is an amazing investment for future summers to come. UPDATE 05/17/21: It has been 3 years since I’ve owned this portable air conditioner and I firmly believe this is by far one of my greatest investments. It has reached upwards of 119 degrees where I live over the past 3 years of owning this AC unit and it’s been a LIFESAVER. I do not regret buying this and I can say with full confidence I would immediately buy a new one should this one fail; as things stand however, I don’t see it failing anytime soon!

SMALL AND MIGHTY
This is in a very hot room on the top floor that faces directly east in the morning sun in southern California- and works great/ It was purchased to replace a 15 year old A/C that no longer did the job, was very loud and took up a lot of space. This is easily 1/3 the size of the old one, whisper quiet and cools the room (which can be as hot as 90 degrees by the end of the day) in less than half an hour (even when set to 74 degress). It's a good value from a trusted brand. ONE BIG COMPLAINT ABOUT IT - the LED lights indicating mode, temperature etc are SO RIDICULOUSLY BRIGHT that they light up the whole room at night. It's light high-beam headlights on a highway. IT'S MORE THAN EXCESSIVE. I WISH the lights were adjustable to dim them. But since they're not, I've taken to piling things on top of it to block the light (which looks really ugly). So, if you're using this in a child's room or anyone who is light sensitive, buy something else. So, it works great, but this one major design flaw makes me wish I'd bought something else.

It gets living fungi that is impossible to clean out because of the design
I had this unit for two years. It cooled one bedroom very well and quickly. The window kit was reasonably easy to install. The fan speed needs to be the setting with the fan and circle around it, otherwise the cooling shuts on and off on a duty cycle. All this worked fine for two years. It makes about as much noise as a self-contained unit like in Hotel rooms, that are built into the wall. Also when it shuts off, it will rattle anything up against it for a second. But now the issue. In the top behind and just below the cold air vents is a squirrel cage blower. There is no access to this, no hatch, no way to get to it short of cutting the vent (and you would need really small hands) or taking the entire unit apart to remove the entire blower box. It get gobs, I tell ye, gobs of gunk and white fungi on the blades of that blower and there is no way to get to the blower and remove it or access it sufficiently for cleaning. And worse, unless you shine a flashlight down in the vents and check it, you would never know this problem was going on. This is the blower that is blowing cold air into the room for people to breathe, mind you. The only reason I found out was it finally started to smell and I confirmed it by placing my face right up to it to smell it. So it was actually a good product, never failed, easy to install in about 2 hours or less, and cooled a room nicely. If you only need it for one season. When I found the fungus on the blades, needless to say, I wanted to save my fellow human from making the same discovery. I suspect most of these portable units are like this. If you get one, make sure it is a model in which you can easily REMOVE both squirrel cage blowers (there is a second one in the base of the unit) and clean them and easily replace them. Companies generally don't make these parts user-serviceable because of the liability or expense making the assembly easy to get to the parts. Go on, shine a flashlight down into the top vents and look closely at the blades, they should be a very light tan clear color.

Unit works great, cooled down a small room during a heat wave superbly..but install kit is flawed.
This air conditioner exceeded my expectations, which were low for a portable unit as I'd never used one before. I'm in the middle of a broiling summer in the San Fernando Valley, with outdoor temps well over 100. My 2 bedroom apartment unit had been furnished with 1 measly wall AC, tucked away in the corner of a living room. The living room was comfortable but not cool, the bedrooms were unusable and I had taken to sleeping in the living room for days. I was fed up. However, I am not handy and was intimidated by trying to figure out how to address sliding windows so a portable unit seemed like the ideal solution. More expensive, but at least I could install it on my own. Unfortunately, the install was the worst part of this AC. The kit is poorly designed- my window was in the 30" tall range so the shortest piece (with the vent) was too small, but the extension pieces were too big so they would have obstructed the vent. The instructions only advised to cut to fit- how the heck do I cut this plastic? I don't own a saw. So I improvised in desperation and cut some thick cardboard from the box to fit the gap and bought some foam tape (the included foam was too wide for my window frame as well) to seal everything up. In time, I will likely cut some plexiglass for a stronger solution to this. After this hurdle, I have to say everything else has been wonderful. My (admittedly small) bedroom is now the coolest room, most comfortable room in the whole place and I had the best sleep after hooking this up. I actually had to turn it down because I was freezing by the midnight! Even in the height of the heat today (over 100), my room has not gone over 75 internal temp. Combined with a ceiling fan, this room is crisp and cold. It's not quiet but I would rather have this noise than be sweating and miserable. Plus the unit is easy to move with wheels when it's winter time. My expectations for cooling were exceeded with this machine definitely!

Quiet, efficient air conditioner
*Update* It’s been almost 2 years and I am still loving this a/c. I remove the vent assembly in the winter and reinstall it when needed. It still cools my home as expected. I’d still recommend it! In face, I’m ordering another one right now for my ver hot laundry room 😁 ************************************* Sometimes shopping online is difficult because reviews are all over the place. I am so glad I ignored the negative reviews and purchased this unit! Is it as quiet as having central a/c? No, of course not. And you’re not very bright if you expect it to be. When it’s running I don’t even have to turn the volume up for the television. Our window unit was absolutely deafening and we could barely talk to each other even when sitting side by side on the sofa. Forget hearing the tv. So this was a pleasant surprise. I’d read so many reviews that it was noisy. We put this in the corner of the living room and having it pointing toward the middle of the living room which is approximately 15’x30’. Sea he vent to the window and it is nicely hidden by my drapes (and some other stuff lol). I set it to 74 and the room cooled down within 10 minutes. The living room is longer than it is wide and we sit about 20 feet away from the unit. The living room leads into the dining/kitchen and I can feel it all the way in there so I’d say it cools nicely. I thought about buying a 2nd unit for the master bedroom but decided since this is portable I’ll just roll it in there. Pros: Attractive (more so than a window unit) Portable Multifunction (cools and dehumidify) Cools quickly and quietly Covers a pretty large area Remote control makes life easier for couch potatoes No unsightly window unit banging away and blocking your view out the window Cons: Window vent was too wide for the window and we had to cut it to size. It would be nice if the manufacturer made a shorter panel. All in all I am very pleased with this unit and would highly recommend it.

One Year In and Working Great!
Had this for a year so far. No issues with the unit, and very effective cooling. I was hesitant to get this due to experiences in the past with small units like this, but this has certainly been a worthwhile purchase!

The external window vent insert is an issue!
The unit is heavy, not cheap, and taking it out of the box is not easy to lift if you are a small person. I cut the sides of the box to remove it. No warnings not to lay it on its side when taking it out of the box, too, because it has chemicals in it, so if you do, don't turn it on right away, or you can ruin it. So read the instructions first thing Of course you're usually in a hurry to get it up and working, like I am in the midst of Arizona 110 + degrees extreme heat right now, albeit low humidity 7% makes a huge difference compared to other states with lower temperatures with high humidity is intolerable to me. Here's are the issues I ran into that I found most problematic. a major issue for me was the window insert. I have riser windows, and the inserts included are really designed for sliders IMO because if you install all 3 pieces of the window insert it extends way to long. I would need to cut one of the sections to fit a standard 35 inch wide window, and how do you do that and not break or damage the edges? Also, I have to put the foam on the ledge to raise up the insert, or the whole for the tubing was not above the metal casing of the window to attach the tube. The foam gave me just enough additional height to connect the hose just hope it doesn't compress, I'll have to get something to replace it with. I am also concerned I might have an air leak at the top of the window while open so I have to find something to put up there to eliminate that hot air coming inside. This is unacceptable that the parts don't fit as advertised. You shouldn't be faced with having to cut hard plastic. Also, be aware that the grounded electrical cord is short, so the unit has to stay near the outlet and window vent and not be portable after installing everything, so you can move it around unless you completely disassemble it. Lots of warnings about wearing rubber shoes and not having wet hands or using metal utensils to turn on or off, and it has a GFI attached to the cord too. It hasn't stopped running since I first turned it on, so the potential for it to overheat is real (the side is very hot, guessing where the motor is). I got the 10,000 CFM, not sure yet how well that will cool my main rooms, yet, so I'll come back and update you on how well it cools. Update on how well it cools. This is very disappointing because the information says it cools almost 500 sq ft (a 10x12 room is 120 sq ft) so you would assume this will cool a large area, such as your main living area. I left it set to the default temperature when turned on was 73 degrees. This will not cool your room like a central AC unit will; the best it did was lower the temperature by 13 degrees. But after the heat of the day is winding down outside, the temperature gap between the outside vs the inside is less because the inside stays the same while the outside cools down and goes from 13 degrees difference down to zero or the same temperature as outside, unless you want to stand right by the cooler unit. I have a weather station unit that monitors outside and inside temperatures, so I can see how this unit is responding to the outdoor temperatures. When the weather station showed it was 103 degrees outside around 1 pm, the area inside, about 12 feet from the unit, was 90 degrees. You had to sit right by the unit to get the colder air on you. The vent area is small to begin with, but the air coming out of the unit is half the size of the vent that covers it, too, so it limits the amount of air flow that is expelled. I would say maybe good for a small enclosed room at best. I'm not impressed and feel it's an over sell to the average person

I'd stand in front of my freezer door and it'd feel like 10 seconds of pure heaven
2 months in After 6 years of living in a 450 square foot, west facing apartment with two large west facing windows and no central AC, I finally bit the bullet and bought this 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner. My apt would get hot and then the heat would stay to a point where I couldn't cook or have my TV on since the heat would be unbearable. I'd stand in front of my freezer door and it'd feel like 10 seconds of pure heaven. The unit is the size of a large mini-fridge, and luckily I vented it out of my kitchen window. I installed the panel vertically and could have cut the extra panel, but the one only leaves a small opening at the top of my window so I don't really mind. I placed the unit up about 3 feet off the ground with it blowing to the most-used areas of my apartment. While not the simplest installation, I think that had to do more with the awkwardness of my space than anything else. It does cool and dehumidify my place. The first time we turned it on, it cooled everything from a stuffy 90 degrees down to a pleasant 79 in about an hour. Sure it can be loud, but the frigid air it blows is excellent. This unit is not powerful enough to ever get down to preferred 68-72 temperatures and then shut off because it's just the nature of my apartment. For days when it reaches the 90s outside, it's on pretty much all day and we use it like a fan. When the air gets cold enough, we turn it off and the apartment stays pretty cool (we also have black out curtains). I was nervous about the electric bill, but I just received it for this period. Normally my electricity is about $45 a month (energy efficient appliances, but two heavy electronic users). I've never had air conditioning in this unit so I can't speak to it being cheaper than that option, and since it was the dead of summer (anywhere from 85-100 degrees outside, again with west facing windows), we sometimes had this air con unit on 24 hours a day for multiple days just to stay sane. This added about $60 a month to the bill, but now we've probably only had it on for an average of 6 hours a day--being more aware of the price increase. To me, that's pretty worth it to make sure I stay sane. By the time winter comes around, I might not even need it at all, so spreading that cost over the year, I think it is pretty reasonable. Totally worth it if you have a very hot room or small apartment where heat drives you crazy!
