Super high value treat for large dog
tl;dr - We use this on our GSD for distraction during grooming, and he actually allows us to deshed him as long as he gets these 'treats' --------------------------------------------------------- A friend recommended this dog food (she has a red-hued doodle named Max) because her pup is in love with it. I was looking for a small-sized dog food to use as a training treat with my German Shepherd Dog, and the samples he's had of Max's food seemed to appeal to him, so I grabbed a bag! Here's the thing about my little guy (Onyx)... he HATES being groomed. He's a GSD, as I mentioned, and he has a thick double coat that sheds nonstop. I have a deshedder tool for him, but he hates it. I've tried being gentle, he doens't care. I've tried bribing him, no matter. I've tried detaining him, still no. But then this dog food comes along, and it's like a totally different dog! Instead of jumping away and biting at the brush, he just lays there and lets me brush him, as long as I keep dropping individual pieces of this dog food. I grab a handful and let down one piece at a time while I'm brushing him. I can brush him for a full hour and he just doesn't care at all, so long as the treats keep coming. I know this is dog food, and I know it's specially formulated for dogs with red coats, but this dog food is a miracle worker for my little guy! We had tried so many other kinds of food and treats, even things like cooked chicken and string cheese! This is the first thing that he's actually cared more about than fighting the deshedding! So unfortunately, I can't say if it works well to help the red coat... my little void has no viewable color other than black, but I can say that my dog absolutely loves this food. And I know it's a bit pricier than other 'treats' I get him, but I have been brushing him every single night for almost 3 weeks now, with zero issues. In the three weeks that we've been using it, we've not even gone through a half bag. This food costs the same as ONE single trip for him to the groomers, but because I can do it at home now, I don't have to pay someone else to do it, he's getting desensitized to the grooming process, MY VACUUM WILL LAST LONGER because there isn't a month in between grooming visits, and he's happy! This is such a win-win situation. As a side-note, not only does he love the taste, but it has also been very kind to his digestive system. We have seen zero stomach sensitivities to it.

It’s just ok.
Did nothing for my dogs tear stains. Also did not notice a difference in my red dogs coat. In my opinion is not worth the price- the bag is gone before you know it. I’m sure it’s a nice product but one dog loves the taste and the other won’t come near it.

My pup was not a fan. 4 paws down.
Well, my pup usually eats pretty much everything and anything. Crumbs, random icky bones he wants to nibble on when on walks....even veggies or fruit. We call him the crumb seeker for a reason. I honestly thought he'd love this food. He's smaller (18lbs), has red/black fur and the lamb meal being the main ingredient seemed like a no brainer. This looked like good quality food with excellent ingredients in small sized kibbles. Sadly he was extremely uninterested and only eats it when mixed with his wet food and his usual kibbles. Even then, I notice that some are the only kibbles carefully left behind, discarded on purpose. He likes his usual dry kibble even if without wet food so I know it's not that he's spoiled. It honestly surprised me how much he wanted nothing to do with it. I can't comment on if this causes stomach issues such as diarrhea since he has only consumed a tiny amount mixed in his regular food. So as for flavor, my pup gives it a 1 out of 5 stars. He does not like the taste for some reason. And obviously I wouldn't order this again. I'm sure if your pup enjoys this food then maybe the value is worth it? I still find it pricey given the quantity. I want to be fair though. Even though my boy is suddenly picky, it's still seems like a quality product. But I'm not a pup and it is interesting as to why he just doesn't like this particular food. I'm guessing there is something in the food he just is not keen on. And that's fine, as he is allowed to like or dislike whatever he wants to.

Small dog likes it, kibble so tiny she swallows most of it whole
My 10 lb. Morkie really likes this Nature's Protection Superior Care Grain-Free Dry Dog Food. However, the kibble is so tiny that she swallows most of it without chewing, so I don't think she really tastes it. This is the smallest kibble I've ever seen. It would be great for dogs under 5 lbs. It seems to be a good quality, nutritious dog food, with clean ingredients. My pup hasn't had any digestive issues with it. She's only been eating it for a couple weeks, so I can't say if it has increased the red in her coat. It's pricey, at $24.99 for a 3.3 lb. bag. I would only order it again if it came on sale.

My dog won’t eat it.
I am not sure if there is a difference in dog coat colors or if this food would make a difference. My dog did not care for this dog food. I am uncertain as to why. I can only assume the flavor isn’t his style. The ingredients aren’t bad but , I couldn’t get my mom’s dogs to eat it either. It is also fairly expensive.

My mini poodle loves the taste of this dog food!
I grabbed the Lamb flavor of this food for my 30 lb red miniature poodle. He took to it immediately so in terms of taste, it's definitely approved by him. I like the small kibble size for my dog as well, he's got a sensitive stomach so the smaller kibble are easier for him to digest overall. He's only been eating it now for almost 2 weeks so it's hard for me to say that I notice a difference in his coloring. He seems the same shade as he normally does. That being said, the 3 lb bag isn't enough for a dog his size- but would go a lot further with a toy breed. I also didn't notice any pungent odors with this food and the ingredient list didn't have anything in it that would raise any concerns for me. Overall I might repurchase this to supplement his regular brand.
