The razor to last a lifetime
The 6s could be the only razor you'll need for the rest of your life. Even with a higher price tag than some other popular razors, the build quality is impressive with all parts being well machined and the threads being smooth the screw in but never unintentionally coming loose. The weight of the stainless is great and even though it has a standard/short handle, it feels great in my larger hands (but also know this is subjective). The plates let you dial in your shave while still being a simple bomb proof design, and seems to offer a solid shave across different blades to accommodate your preference. It takes a few trial and error shaves to find the plate/blade "golden combo", once dialed in the razor provides a great shave every time without fail. Some ownership tips, the razor is forgiving on angle but will leave you with a subpar shave, so if you're not getting a smooth finish, check your technique. If it's tugging, chances are you want to swap either plates or blades (for me, nacets tug in this razor but work fine in others. If that happens to you, I find feathers are perfectly sharp and tame in this for my somewhat coarse hair). Finally, I'd recommend starting with plate 3. Better information is available for more knowledgeable sources, but that's my subjective recommendation.

Solid Razor that Adjusts for Close Shaves
Originally bought a double edged safety razor to avoid the high cost and waste of a cartridge razor. Buying a safety razor turned into a quest for the ultimate smooth shave. Bought the Rockwell 6S because the shaving edge is adjustable using different plates. Also, like the weight of the razor. Able to use the weight of the razor when shaving most of the time to avoid pressing down. Can get a very smooth shave. Details are below: Shaving Before Safety Razor 1. Use an electric razor to shorten whiskers and minimize the wear on the expensive shave cartridges 2. Dry shave with the cartridge razor to further shorten the whiskers Shaving with the Safety Razor 1. Wet lather shave with the safety razor 2. Use electric razor on dimple Main Results 1. Very smooth shave with Rockwell 2. Occasional nicks, but less bleeding if nicked and more easily stopped than nicks from cartridge razor 3. Takes longer (About 10 minutes vs 3 minutes) Lessons 1. Using a safety razor started me on the quest for the ultimate smooth shave that is virtually impossible to achieve. (There are always a few spots with slightly longer whiskers after shaving.) 2. Other than shortening the dimple whiskers, the electric shaver does no shaving after using the safety razor 3. The safety razor gives a much smoother shave than the cartridge razor 4. Previously had 5 o'clock shadow and often shaved if going out in the evening. No longer necessary 5. Big learning curve. Many more variables including Razor and its settings, blade, cream, shaving brush to learn to optimize

Top of the line razor, worth the price
Great shave, smooth, little if any learning curve, no nicks, no cuts, no razor burns, even if you’re new to safety razors. If you shave every day, keep it on setting 3 with a Nacet blade. If you shave less often, set it up for 4 or 5. Simple to use. Stainless steel is nice and substantial, easy to grip. Never slips. Started with a mild Twig razor but graduated to this serious, top of the line heavyweight. Worth the money.

Great Product and Customer Support
I just received my new Rockwell 6S and upon closer inspection I noticed a casting flaw on the #2/4 adjustment plate. As with any cast part this can occasionally happen. I can see why quality control missed it and most people would ( See photo.). I just tend to be meticulous. I contacted Amazon. They wanted me to return the razor, wait for their refund, and have me reorder. I just thought this would take too much time. Immediately, I emailed Rockwell Razor explaining the flawed part. I had read several reviews that their customer support was lacking and I was a bit concerned. However, I received an email, back, the following day asking if I could provide a photo. I did. A few hours later, I received another email with order confirmation for the replacement part. I received it. I just want to say I had no problems with Rockwell and they made it right. They stand behind their products. My special thanks to Brar, who was my Customer Service Advocate. He was understanding, quick and efficient. Now I ordered the Rockwell 6S to replace my forgotten Merkur Futur. It provided years of great shaves. However, towards the end I noticed the the blade gap became uneven. That’s because, it’s an inherent issue with twist-style adjustable razors. Yes I fixed it by squaring the spring ends and using flat washers. The Rockwell design uses preset bottom plates to change the blade geometry. So, it does not suffer from this-twist style design flaw and will not wear out or change with use or age. Overall I am extremely very happy with it and the Rockwell Company. It’s heavy. Which is good. Metal razors tend to hold onto heat. So, preheating and rinsing with hot water provides for a nice, comfortable hot shave. I paired it with Feather Platinum Blades. These are the best blades I’ve used. A warning. The best for me probably won’t be the best for you. So, as with any DE safety razor, try different blades to find yours. Rockwell Razor is 5⭐️

Very solid Razor. Close shave. Good quality. Works well.
The quality of the razor is extremely good. I prefer a longer handle - it is short. The packaging is top-notch. You open the container, it has the razor handle, razor top, the angled bed, 5 razor blades, and instructions on what the different plates are for. You have 1-3, 2-4, 5-6 plates. The plate has R2 (for example) on the back of the plate. The razor edge at the bottom of that R2 is the R2 (closer shave) and the R4 is the opposite side - not as close of a shave. The higher number is for longer hair (beard) and lower number is for closer skin-close shave. I strongly advise using shaving cream and rinsing out the razor as you shave. I use a bristled brush to clean out the razor as the shaving cream and hair can get stuck on the under carriage of the razor's plate. The razor blades are Swiss made and appear very sharp but flex a lot - so be careful dropping them on the plate and securing them. Overall, I am happy with this product. I think I will be passing this down to my son in a decade or two. I wish it came with a coupon or information on which blades are ideal to use with this razor. If you are looking for a closer shave than an electric or off-the-shelf disposable razor - this will work for you. This can be used for a male or female. The cost of the razor and purchasing of the razor blades in 1-year will pay for itself.

Finally, a close shave
I know there are differing sides on shaving. Cartridge, safety, straight edge and electric. In my teen years I started with an adjustable safety razor. I always had nicks each week for many years. Just couldn’t get the knack or the razors weren’t great back in the 70’s. So I went electric for many years. Got tired of not getting a close shave and switched to cartridges. Then the cost became a burden and back I went to electric, foil and rotary. But they just don’t shave closely and I would end up doing touch ups with a cartridge blade. How dumb is that. So finally after extensive research I decided on this Rockwell safety razor. Time to shave is not bad at all. I actually am enjoying the ritual. My shave is finally close, nothing left to feel on my face. Using a good shaving cream has left me with zero nicks, and the scent is great and lasts all day. All told with the razor, extra blades, brush, cream and balm it was under 150. Well worth it. My skin is healthier and my face is much smoother than ever before. This is an excellent razor, solid build, feels good in the hand, six adjustment plate settings for mild to aggressive shaving and simply a precision shaver that will last decades. Well worth the cost and I wish I had done this sooner. This is what proper shaving really is and thus is an excellent shaver.

Definitely worth the upgrade.
I purchased a Rockwell 6s razor as an upgrade from my Merur 34C daily shaver after reading several positive recommendations. While I found nothing wrong with my Merkur, the Rockwell is definitely a step up. The adjustable heads are key. I found, for me, the number 4 works very well on my beard and skin type. Once I found "my" setting , I tried various blades from different manufactures and found that all seem to give very good results. Clearly the better quality blades last longer and do a better job, but even inexpensive blades did a commendable job. This included cheap "store brand" blades purchased at a local grocery store. The razor I purchased is very well constructed. I would say it's built like a tank. The 6s is a SOLID, well built razor, and heavy. I was quite surprised by the difference in weights between the Merkur and the Rockwell. At first use, to me, the Rockwell seemed like someone got the bright idea of bolting a double edge razor blade on to an old Ford truck axle. The Rockwell is solid and heavy. The Merkur, hollow, and much lighter. At first, I had doubts that the Rockwell's quality and alleged capability justified the extra cost. I was also used to the lightness of the Merkur and was concerned that the heavy Rockwell would be clumsy, unwieldy and difficult to maneuver, perhaps resulting in nicks and cuts. This proved not to be the case, however, as once I had the Rockwell is dialed in, and with a heavy lather of Col. Conk's shave soap, I have consistently gotten BBS shaves. I have to agree with other reviewers that the Rockwell is a step up from the Merkur, and is definitely worth the money. The Merkur, I still like and will keep, but now goes into my travel kit. The Rockwell has been promoted to daily shaver.

I really like this! Edited to answer a "Does this rust" question.
I'm @ 54 y/o, and have used a standard disposable 3-5 blade cartridge razors for my entire life. I had a friend who started using a safety razor and liked the results; it's cheaper over a fairly short amount of time and, most importantly - a good close shave. For a point of reference, I've got what I would call relatively "lite" facial hair and can often get away with only shaving every other day if needed. If I wanted to look extra squared away, I would have to shave every day though. I believe that when you buy quality you only cry once, so I bought this model specifically as it was stainless steel, made in the USA, and shouldn't rust. I like how it fits in my hand, and the picture shows how the item looks, as I just now went up into my bathroom, took it off the caddy, and snapped a picture (no extra cleaning - what you see is how it cleans up). I'm an average-sized guy I'd say: about 5'10" & 220 lbs. The dollar bill in the picture was to give a better idea of proportion. Also, in the picture, you can see the number "3". That's a "setting" that you can adjust by changing the bottom piece. I describe it a bit more below. Those with bigger hands - or if your current razor is longer - might want a longer handle, but this bad boy isn't light! When you have it in hand, you know you've got a hunk of good quality stainless steel there. :) The handle texture is pretty high, and I think it helps keep a good grip on it when being used. I've never felt it slip in my hand while shaving; definitely a positive! It was a bit of a learning curve as I was probably more cautious than I needed to be from watching lots of videos on using safety razors and folks saying you needed to be careful not to cut yourself. I especially liked the ability (by way of the 6-way adjustable bottom sides, via 3 separate bottoms) to manage how "aggressive" the shave is. I started off on the mildest and have worked up to the #3 side. Each of the three bottom pieces has two different levels; so, you get 1 thru 6 overall. It's super easy changing the bottom part: It just unscrews from the handle. You will have to be a tad more careful when you change blades, but I don't think it requires any specific skill or dexterity. However, if you DO have some manual dexterity challenges, you might need a helping - errrrr hand - to swap the blade. A 1 / 10 for effort, but maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10 for dexterity needed to change them. I think a small child COULD do it, but with a super sharp blade, you'd probably not want to take the chance. So far, not a single nick! :) I very much like the shave, but you do have to adjust your method, as I can see the potential for a cut if you were to try to shave using the same manner as a disposable. I now shave with much shorter strokes and with less pressure, as the best description, I can offer. The included blades worked perfectly. Now that I got the hang of it, I bought another 100 count package of another brand, based on some other reviews & cost analysis. Nothing I disliked about the included ones. It seems that safety razors are pretty much a standard with design. The item has NO rust or other discoloration to date (having been used over a month now - but I actually bought it on August 2021, and waited to finish off my last cartridge razor). I usually shave in the shower and make sure that I rinse it well before I put it back in the hanger (my shower caddy has a space just for razors). I've found that some pre-shave lotion works wonders as I transitioned to this style from my original cartridges. BUT, some of these lotions can be kind of.... "gummy" and cause the small pieces of shaven hairs to clump up and clog the drain sections of the razor. No-fault of the razor, more an issue with some lotions. I tried both foam and gel AND even some classic paste/brush type, to see if there was any noticeable difference. I'd say all have performed more or less the same for me, but your mileage will vary. :) Sometimes I like the older fashion paste/brush, as it's got a nice Sandlewood smell that my wife really likes, but mostly I use a good quality gel for day-to-day. I would definitely recommend some type of container to store your used blades. Me: I get about 5 or 6 shaves out of an individual blade before I start to notice that they're getting dull, so I don't go through too many. Still, they come off the razor still... razor-sharp; you wouldn't want to just toss the bare blade in the garbage. :) I bought a fairly small dedicated metal razor blade storage case that I will just toss in the trash when it fills. This case will hold a stated 300 blades, so it'll last me YEARS! The pictures are untouched and I didn't do any special cleaning of the item before the pictures, just to show you how things really are with really basic care. As with any good tool, one does need to put SOME effort into keeping it clean, so I normally give it a good rinsing under the shower head when I'm done. Overall, a positive experience, and I would highly recommend this unit. For a PURE beginner - say a young person just starting to shave, maybe a less inexpensive model to see if they like the style, then upgrade to a better quality version. This wasn't a cheap buy. EDITED 5 Nov 2022 I've had my version now for over a year now. The razor itself hasn't rusted, but if you let the blades stay in the razor for too long - WHILE WET - the blades rust & they will stain the razor. See the pictures. You can see in 2 pictures, where there is NO staining - that's where the blades were NOT touching. In the other 2 pictures, you can see where the blades rest inside the razor (as used) and you can see the light staining. I did NOT clean up the razor at all - the "rust" is an issue with the blades. NOT the razor. FWIW, I shave in the shower and have a small razor hook where I hang it, so it drips dry and doesn't stay wet.

The Tank
I just tried the Rockwell 6S safety razor for the first time today, using a Gillette Seven O’Clock Super Platinum blade, and I must say—it lives up to the hype. With the adjustability of the plates, it’s like having a new razor every time you shave, tailored to how your beard is on any given day. Starting with plate 6 for the initial pass and switching to plate 2, I achieved a clean, close shave in just two passes. I only needed minor touch-ups, skipping a full third pass against the grain, which is typically where razor burn or irritation can sneak in. The best part? No nicks, no cuts—just a smooth, BBS finish without a hint of razor burn. The ability to adjust the plates is a standout feature, giving you a personalized shaving experience each time. If your beard feels particularly thick one day, you can start with a more aggressive setting and dial it down as you go. It’s versatility at its finest! Absolutely worth the investment, especially for those who enjoy tailoring their shave. And for an even better experience, I’d recommend pairing it with Proraso Green products—trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Head Shavers, fear not!
I was hesitant switching over from super expensive cartridges to DE because of the initial investment and a little afraid of cutting my noggin. I was going to try the Henson but good razors are expensive so trying multiple razors didn’t seem like a good idea, hence the 6S. Being able to adjust the aggressiveness of the shave seemed ideal and the 6S gives you the adjustability to experiment until you find the right setting for your beard or hair, if you’re shaving your head. This gives me a closer shave than a cartridge at under 50 cents a blade. This razor is good but with the caveat that I’m using Feather blades which are very good and translates to a closer, quicker shave with less risk of getting nicked. For me at number 4 it’s perfect for both my head and face. Also, I found the handle to be the perfect length, especially because I shave my head and face so I need to shave at many angles. The razor is also quite heavy which takes a bit to get used to but I found it helps with control. I shave with both my left and right hands but with my eyes closed in the shower. BTW, no special soaps are needed, I just use a pump of body wash, but again for me the Feather razors make the difference between a good shave and an enjoyable one, plus they last longer so that makes up for the difference in cost. There is definitely a learning curve as you figure it out and you can’t rush shaving with a DE but you are rewarded with a close shave. This a very good razor and with the Feather blades it’s even better.
