Nicely Made, Works Well, Easy to Use, Portable, Awesome Value
For a considerable number of years, I've yearned for the ability to capture the intricate details of the miniature world through macro photography with my GoPro camera. While the latest GoPro Hero 13 finally incorporates a dedicated macro lens, this highly desirable feature is unfortunately not backward compatible with my existing GoPro models. This Neewer macro lens offers a practical and convenient workaround, providing a simple and effective way to achieve macro capabilities with my compatible GoPro cameras. The attachment and removal process is exceptionally straightforward, requiring only a quick rotational movement to either secure or detach the lens. It's important to note that the lens doesn't employ a locking mechanism, as the official GoPro lens does. However, it's designed to fit snugly and securely onto the camera's lens housing, and I've found that it remains reliably in place, resisting unintentional rotation or dislodging once it's properly attached. Users have the flexibility to orient the lens according to their preference, either with the Neewer logo prominently displayed or with the lens model information visible. It's crucial to understand that the camera's internal software does not recognize the presence of the external macro lens. Consequently, there are no automatic adjustments or on-screen indicators related to macro mode. The lens itself exhibits a solid and well-constructed feel, suggesting a good level of durability and optical quality. The lens is thoughtfully packaged and arrives well-protected within a dedicated carrying case, ensuring its safety during storage and transport. A soft cleaning cloth is also included, a welcome addition for maintaining the lens's optical clarity. With this Neewer macro lens, I've been able to achieve impressively close focus on objects positioned as near as 3 inches from the front element of the lens. This capability is perfectly suited for my macro photography needs, allowing me to capture stunning details of subjects that would be impossible to achieve with the GoPro's native lens. However, it's essential to acknowledge the lens's inherent limitation: its fixed focus range. Once attached, the lens is optimized for close-up macro photography, and it becomes impossible to transition seamlessly from a detailed macro shot to a wider-angle perspective without first detaching the lens. The camera will simply not be able to achieve focus at wider angles while the macro lens is in place. This necessitates a deliberate decision to use the lens for macro purposes and then remove it when wider shots are required.

Absolutely AMAZING!
Okay, so I hope you're as excited for this macro lens as I am! This thing is really cool, and what I believe should be a stable to your gopro. I have a hero black 12 and by swapping to this lens, I can record come cool B-Roll (like if im in the woods, I can get a good close up of bugs or plants), and its also good for texture images as well! One thing to keep in mind if you're new and are looking to upgrade your gopro lens, this is for up close magnified shots (very close to the lens), and does not see very far. Overall I think this is absolutely one of the best lenses in my kit, along with the neewer variable ND filter lens, and my CPL lens, I think im pretty much set for anything! But I still have to say how nice it is finally getting close up shots again, but with my gopro!

Not really a macro lens, just a close up lens. Not what I was expecting.
I'm not sure this is technically a macro lens, it seems to be more of a close up lens. If you look at the attached photos I took, they aren't even what I'd call magnified. I was really looking for a ultra close up lens...which would be a macro lens. This is not that.

Good Fixed Macro Focus Option For GoPro 12 & Under
I ordered this out of curiosity and not 100% sure of how the macro functionality on this lens operated. Unlike, my true interchangeable lens cameras, having a kit of different GoPro lenses is not a need I have. I do own a couple “macro” lenses for my Canon mirrorless bodies. Those can focus at normal range for their focal length but need less distance between the end of the lens and the subject. So if you were to stand, say 10 feet from a subject and gradually move toward it until you were inches away the lens would never lose focus. This Neewer lens does not work that way. It’s 100% fixed focused and the end of the lens must be between 2.75” and 4” from the end of the lens to the subject for a clear picture. So the uses I can think of for this lens are for b-roll shots and videoing miniatures or insects. To give you a better idea of this I’ve included a quick demo moving in on some Cherry blossoms and then moving back out. I recorded it handheld (no gimbal or stick) on a GoPro 12 in 4K/30. You will see how the focus changes with the subject to lens distance. I’ve also attached a photo at correct focus distance. Both files are straight out of camera as far as color correction and sharpness go. Amazon might compress these files further so I will say the clarity and color the lens offers is good, but don’t expect Canon L or Sony G Master-like output. As I said, I don’t really follow GoPro lenses but I think macro lens options are few so this is probably the best one around. I think GoPro’s macro lens is only for the GoPro 13. It’s a solid choice as long as you understand it’s limitations. It’s certainly cost effective if don’t do a lot of macro work but still have an occasion to need close up video or a photo for a thumbnail.

Does one thing great, that's it!
Attaching this 2X magnification lens to my GoPro Hero 12 was straightforward; the ease of installation is good, and the fit is snug. The functionality is exactly as described—it excels at macro shots within the 7-10cm focal range. For close-up shots, the image quality is surprisingly sharp, capturing excellent detail right up close. However, this lens is a real one-trick pony; unless you are specifically doing macro shots, it’s basically useless for general filming. While the ease of use for macro is high, you can’t just leave it on the camera for everyday use. It will just sit in its case until the next time I specifically need a creative close-up shot. Considering the limited scenarios where I can use it, the value for money feels a bit high for such a niche accessory.

Great Macro Lens
This has been a great macro type lens that I used on my GoPro to create B-Roll for my teaser roll for my YouTube channel. The image quality is great and it was so easy to put on my GoPro.

Specialty lens for close focus performs well
I found this to be extremely capable at close up subjects. I was able to get very close for product detail shots and to get much better shots of small items that could now take up a majority of the frame. Installation is easy enough as it attaches like other lens mods but doesn't have the ability to communicate settings nor does it have a hard stop. It has a nice little case as well. I have the GoPro Macro Mod which doesn't focus as closely but is adjustable and does allow focus at a much greater distance so for some things it is more useful than this lens. However the Macro Mod will not focus at the very short distances this will. The Macro Mod is more of a general purpose close focus lens while this is like a specialty macro lens. Ultimately this is for extreme close ups or very small items you want to capture in full detail. If you have that need as I do this is a great choice.

Close up yes. Macro no.
I don't know if I would consider this a macro lens as much as a fish eye close up lens. It has VERY heavy distortion, and doesn't so much "magnify" (and certainly not 2x which for macro would mean 2 times life size on the sensor) as it does just change the focus distance. It absolutely does change the distance your gopro will focus at. The specs say 7-10cm I would put it closer to 5-10cm. And of course anything out side that range is out of focus. But it isn't really doing much to magnify. It's a very niche lens for your gopro, but if need to be able to focus with your go pro in the approximately 2-5 inch (5-10cm) range, this will serve that purpose. If you are expecting an actual macro lens, or even a close up lens without distortion, this is not the item for you.

Great upgrade for cheap
Works as it should ! Great product ! Sure you have to switch lenses just to shoot 2-3 shots but if you are serious about your videos its great ! I have a outdoor style youtube chanel and was struggling with having close up shots of my food and cooking segments ( all shot on gopro black 12 ) and it solved my issue 🤪🔥
