Well built and does what I expect
This is a review of the Panasonic NB-211. Itโs replacing a 10 year old Hamilton Beach convection toaster oven. It came packed with paper pulp type packing and enclosed in a sort of polyester bag. The accessories were in separate bags. The build quality is excellent, heavier and more stout than cheaper toaster oven/air fryer combo units. The controls are pretty easy to use, I havenโt come across anything illogical so far. There are 3 side slots for basket or pan(s). The interior light stays on when running at least some of the time so I can monitor cooking progress. I doubt the light would stay on for long term procedures like dehydrating but I donโt know. I havenโt had it long, a couple days but Iโd like to dispel at least one myth. It will indeed bake. If some of the reviews were accurate and I couldnโt bake with it, I probably would not keep it. We used the Hamilton Beach for all our oven cooking/baking and want the Panasonic to do the same. I baked a loaf of Pilsbury pumpkin quick bread as an early test. The package called for 375* for 40-50 minutes. Based on prior experience with the Hamilton Beach, I baked it at 360* for 30 minutes, stuck a tooth pick in it and it was done. Perfect except the top split so not perfect. Did a Hot Pocket for lunch, used the manual mode which includes convection. Baked per instruction and it was fine, I liked it better than a microwave. It does have an internal cooling fan which runs during use and will continue to run after the cycle is done until I guess the internal temperature of the oven drops to a certain temp. I think the clearances called out in the manual โ 4 inches horizontally and 12 inches vertical are pretty conservative, especially the vertical clearance. I imagine the exterior will get warmer than the typical toaster oven while in air fryer mode โ up to 440* - but it didnโt seem all that hot a couple inches away. Would I buy it again? At the price I paid - $199 - Iโd buy it again no question. For the most recent price on Amazon - $299 likely not. There are a couple other ovens for $199 that look interesting. I'll update this if my impressions change. Edit: There is one point that people may want to know about. It seems the minimum temperature in any mode I tried including manual is 160* F. I'm quite happy with it.

FlashXpress XL burnt plastic odor and poor design
I am a happy user of a Panasonic FlashXpress for years and very excited to see a new larger model with more features to I ordered the FlashXpress Air Fryer Toaster Oven NB-G211P. First a bad omen, the package was damaged (see photo) but the unit seemed OK. The instructions say to run it in Air Fryer mode first to get of an "odd" odor. The odor is a burnt plastic stink that even after running it over 6 times persists. The inside smells OK-ish but the fan blows out a stink that lingers. Over time it might get better but I had anther appliance where even after a year still had the same issue... not going through that again. Additionally, Panasonic lost the plot on the functionality. The "Fryer" fan runs for every function, even toast. It's loud and it can't really toast or broil properly in constant convection mode. Plus instead of an easy button push like the old smaller FlashXpress fiddle with the dials for every function and then press start. Preheat also does not automatically finish and then start the cook timer. You have to press the start button a second time to start the actual cooking once the preheat is complete... and almost all the functions require preheat. Unhappily due to the stinky odor I am returning the product. Panasonic needs to up the quality control of the plastic used in this product and also improve the functionality of the user interface and get of the fan running for every function.

Nap time at the Panasonic factory
This is a great air fryer if you can manage to get one that isnโt defective. Iโve had to exchange this purchase FOUR TIMES now due to all the defects Iโve been sent: units that rattle, missing parts, and my personal favorite โ PART OF THE DOOR MISSING (see images). Rating five stars for better reach.

Cooks well but there are some issues
This is a spacious toaster oven/air fryer. I've attached a picture comparing racks. The smallest one is from typical 26qt french door style oven. The second one is the Panasonic. The largest one is from Cuisinart convection oven. The Panasonic is almost as big as the Cuisinart, which is NOT an air fryer. The Panasonic cooks very well and evenly. It's rated at 1800 watts and all 5 heating elements work at the same time. In my experience, many of these appliances claim wattage of the total elements combined, but they never run all the elements at the same time. I tried mini potatoes and they were fork tender in less than 20 minutes. The door is well designed. It does not drip on the counter, unlike other ovens I used. When it starts working you can see condensation on the door, but that evaporates after a while. When you turn it on, it starts preheating (depending on the program) and beeps when reaching the temperature. You need to press the Start button again, to start the timer. I just put the food in, and turned it on, while it was preheating, to save time. You can change the temperature and time while it's cooking, unlike some other models. Also, the electronic display tells you at what height to insert the cooking tray, based on the program you chose (there are 3 levels). A few cons: The oven has a vent in the back facing up - it requires clearance from above. The air comes out pretty hot. The body itself gets very hot, too hot to touch. YOU WILL GET A BURN IF YOU TOUCH THE SIDES. This is not different from other ovens, just beware. Another con: lowest temperature possible is only 160F. This is too high for dehydration or for warming up some foods without drying them. Lastly, this is a tall oven. Other ovens tall that have 4 rack levels that give you more flexibility and allow you to cook with two racks at the same time. This one has just 3 rack levels. It gives less flexibility. Overall, the Panasonic is a very well designed and built appliance. The controls are logical, the programs are quite accurate, and you can modify the time and temperature for all the presets. Build quality is a cut above other similar appliances that I used. It's easily on par with the Cuisinart convection oven that I have.

Nice machine with some unfortunate design flaws
Great looking unit. A large amount of interior volume for the foot print. Has some clever features like the magnets on the door that pull the tray or grates out when the door opens. Heats up extremely quickly too. But, it has several flaws. 1. It has a very loud cooling fan that is on whenever the machine is cooking and remains on for some time after to cool the unit. Sounds like a hair dryer so if you have a small kitchen or are noise sensitive i would avoid this unit for that reason. 2. It has coil whine that can be heard when the unit is plugged in and off. It gets louder and pulses when selecting a cook setting. After the unit is on its not audible because the fan drowns it out. So if you are one of the lucky few that can hear coil whine its going to bother you. 3. Its lowest temperature setting is 160 degrees. Not low enough for slow dehydration. Definitely not low enough if you want to use it for proofing dough. 4. Its longest cook time setting is 8 hours. Not long enough to even stay on overnight for dehydrating. 5. It does not have preset toast settings. Its just time and temp. You have no selection for shade or slices so you need to learn what those settings should be. Might be easy for an adult but not easy if you have children.

Quality Typical of Panasonic
We bought this Air Fryer/Toaster Ovens in part because its profile was low enough to fit under a low kitchen cabinet at our summer location and in part because we have always appreciated the engineering and manufacturing quality of Panasonic product. So far (two months), the device works perfectly, whether making toast or roasting chicken. The one negative is that the fan is a little louder than our other toaster ovens and it stays on a little longer.

Terrible Product
This product is a real disappointment for owners of the smaller Panasonic toaster oven. It takes 10 minutes to toast a single piece of bread, it does not broil at all, and when it is on, the fan sounds like a jet engine. We had to buy a $10 toaster just to get a slice of toast in the morning. We are so sorry we went for the sale price on this thing instead of just buying another smaller unit without the "air fryer" bells and whistles. It is difficult to figure out how to turn it on, takes forever to preheat, and once it's off it takes another 20 minutes for the jet engine fan noise to stop. Finally, the outside of it gets extremely hot when used to bake or broil. Finally, it is huge and takes up a ton of counter space. Please do not buy! You will be disappointed.

Better than the Val Cucina and Calphalon
this is the 3rd multi function toaster oven I've purchased. the last 2 each lasted about 2 years before dying. the first was a calphalon and the second was the Val Cucina. This Panasonic is the best I've used. you can switch between C and F, the rack is magnetic to the door. the buttons and dials feel more solid than the other two. Vegetables crisp nicely. Japan Quality A+
