working better tracking right than left unlike her other racehorse brethren
I recently adopted an abused ottb who is the sweetest, most willing horse I've ever come into contact with, but alas is not without her quirks (only liking to canter in itty bitty circles, generally not liking straight lines, the occasional counter canter, working better tracking right than left unlike her other racehorse brethren, just to name a few issues). This book starts at the basics and works up, isn't dumbed down but is super helpful in reminding fairly advanced riders like myself the basic, helpful tips that make a horse and rider work well together and communicate to the best ability. I would recommend this to not only people interested in eventing, but also anyone who needs a refresher or is looking to advance their horse - rider relationship.

FANTASTIC
as much as I HATE the major *not the safety* changes of todays' Eventing - I STRONGLY believe that in shortening the venue that the horses and riders are NOT as fit, able, OR SAFE!!! as they were with the 4 segments!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The statics as well as novice and prelim riders answers to questions that should be as well known as their names' aren't. I believe that the short venue has made the training less intense and the horses & riders MUCH less capable & fit!!! Fortunatly this book is one of the few out there that truly train the horse and rider to the highest level of fitness in the safest and best manner. Every horseman should have this book in their libraries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not just for eventers...
This book is fabulous for every level of rider - though it starts with the history of eventing and the basics, it is not "dumbed down" and answers many of the questions riders new to eventing will have and is a great refresher even for those riders who have been at it for awhile. It is also an amazing analysis of the step-by-step process of participating in eventing that focuses on the horse, not just on the rider. I really cannot find a thing that is not addressed in the book that should have been.I recommend it even to non-eventers as many of the skills needed to compete are applicable to any discipline. In short - buy this book. You will not be disappointed

Valuable book should be in every horseman's library
this is a truly complete work by one of the world's most accomplished and important professional riders. Every single chapter has something important to learn. I highly recommend it, not only for competitive riders, but also for those who would simply like to learn more about teaching and training their own horses at home, even if you just hack outdoors and enjoy trail riding. there is something in there for you. It's easily written and the book design is fresh and clear. Well worth the cost; don't wait until they are sold out.

Great Book
This book is great for the aspiring eventer that wants to strengthen their skills. Easy to understand and explains all parts of the various exercises. I have already noticed a difference in my awareness in my own riding.

Must read for beginning eventers!
Awesome, must have resource for your equestrian library ... especially if you're a beginning eventer (like me) or thinking about starting the sport. Phillip Dutton is a living Eventing legend and this is his take on the sport today. Not as in depth in the "technical" information for advanced riders, but still valuable advice and training tips on both horse and rider from a phenomenal horseman/trainer and competitor. Not to mention great book layout, pictures and information topics.

Very Helpful!!!
Wow--this is great! I'm new to eventing so this provides me answers to some of the little questions that have yet been unanswered. This was a great investment. It's well organized and nicely put together. I recommend it to anyone new to eventing... and may even have good info for veterans.
