Warning, long review. And probably TMI. TLDR: Absolutely awesome heater once you figure out the best placing and setting. And it DOES work well even in an RV in below freezing temps. Pro tip: Plug into an outlet, not an extension chord, unless it's a heavy duty outdoor yellow one. Don't plug in other things on the same plug/breaker. This heater is nothing short of amazing. I wasn't impressed with the fans put out by this company, because while they move air you can't really feel it unless you're right in front of it, but this heater is just unbelievable in how well it heats a room. Regular space heaters are dangerous at the Hi temp, do Ok at the Low temp, and only truly can be safely run when you're at home. They also, for all the intense heat they can put out, don't really heat a room that well. I live in an RV and usually ended up using 1 heater in 60 to 70 degree weather, 2 space heaters in 50 to 60 degree weather, 3 in 40 to 50, and 4 in below 40. To be safe, I would buy new ones every year or two and run the 4th one to an outside plug. My electric bill would be as high as my AC bill in the summer. The Vornado heats the ENTIRE room as long as you have it set in the optimum spot and leave it on to regulate temperature. You wouldn't think it could. The first time I tried the 1st one I bought last year, I thought it was broken or defective because it put out very little heat, or so it seemed. But I gave it time to heat the room and when I came back in an hour later, it was almost uncomfortably warm. *TIP: It needs to be set up to where it can blow across a room unobstructed and have air flow to the backside.* I use this in my bigger area (living room and kitchen), which is 20Lx10Wx9H, and keep my ceiling fan on the reverse flow. What I found: The HI (3) setting I reserve for when it's under 50 outside. This is the setting that will allow you to feel some heat if you personally need warming up. The medium (2) setting is great for 45 degrees and up. The low (1) for 55 and up. But that's for me in my RV's main area. It may be different for a better insulated room with lower ceilings. I do have to run a second heater, a space heater, to add some extra heat in the room when it gets below 35, but that's because of my poor insulation, not because the Vornado is in any way a bad heater. It's also so quiet you wouldn't know it's running until you get close to it. Vornado sticks by their warranty and responds fairly promptly. The ONLY con about this heater is finding the optimum setting as it changes depending on room temperature, and if there's a cold wind blowing outside. I tend to run it between 3 and 6 depending on outside temps and what setting I have it on. Other people may find they need to set it differently. I like my RV between 70 and 75 in the colder months for my elderly cat. As of now 10/12/19, we dropped to 48 degrees from 80 in the space of an hour yesterday morning. I left a space heater running in both rooms (at the marked spots I had figured out equalled 70-75), because I couldn't get to my Vornado quickly, and because it had originally said we would get up to 70 degrees. It only got up to 55 outside and I came home to inside being 65, with the heaters likely having run the whole time (On Low). I found my Vornado and set it up on HI, left the space heater on at 70, just in case, and waited. Within an hour, my RV was at 76. I adjusted it to 5 at medium and it dropped to 70 inside in an hour. I left it at 5 but turned on HI and went to sleep, with the space heater still on for support just in case. Woke up to 75 degrees inside, 55 outside. So, I think I've figured out the settings: At HI 4 is 70, 5 is 75, 6 is 80, 7 is 85, when you leave it on constantly to regulate the temperature. Approximately. I'm sure the heat setting makes that vary some, but maybe not. I don't think my space heater has come on since the Vornado got going. This is by far the best investment you could make on a heater for a room. Edit 11/11/19 I left this morning with it being warm at 70. It was predicted to drop to the 40s by 8 pm. No problem, I thought. I left the Vornado on at #2 heat #5 on the dial. I also had a digital space heater set at 72 on Low just in case I got home late. Well, it dropped 4 hours early and I raced home at 6 because I was sure my poor elderly cold sensitive cat would be freezing. I've never had less than 4 heaters going in 40 or under weather. It's a nice 70 degrees inside while it's 35 outside. See pictures. I'm going to try only running the Vornado tonight on #3 heat #5 on the dial and see what happens. It's supposed to get down to 28 tonight. Edit 9/15/20 I dusted off my Vornado and used it last week when we had a cold front blow through. We went from 75 lows to 50s low and a high the next day of 75. It was the only heater on during this 24 hour period of time and with my elderly cat having passed away, heating the place above 70 isn't necessary anymore. The heater worked great. I set it on the #2 setting and put the dial between 3 and 4. With cold wind blowing outside and temps in the 50s the heater managed to heat my RV up to 75. I adjusted the dial a smidge and my place stayed between 70 and 72 all night. I will never buy any other brand of heater ever again as my main heat source. Edit 11/11/22 Still LOVE this brand of heater. Best in it's class plus some! My ONLY complaint is and has been the internal thermostat. We had a drop from 70s to 40s yesterday. I have since purchased a thermostat plug specifically for heaters and ACs, still on the dedicated plug, that more accurately reads temps in the room, particularly in the area I want a certain temperature. Paired together, it's a "set it and forget it" situation. I never again have to worry that as long as the power is on, my RV has reliable heat in cold temps, and that it won't go into roast mode, or shut off too soon. AND my electric bill dove down to below $50. Win win win! I have not received anything at a discount for my review or had any offer of such.

This heater is the best one I've found, and I've tried *many* types of heaters. It puts out a warm to hot stream of soft air that works great for heating a room. It has a power switch, wattage switch for different output levels, and a thermostat to set the point at which it turns on and off. It also has a safety tip-over switch as heaters are required to have nowadays. The heater works very well, and is the quietest forced-air heater I've come across. Even the thermostat is quiet as it clicks on and off, can barely hear it as opposed to the loud click of most heaters. For forced air heaters you generally have two types, wire element and ceramic element (There is also infrared with fan but I'm not considering that here). They are both electric, but have different element watt-area densities. You can concentrate 1500w in a very small space with a small element producing a hot puff of air, or you can spread the 1500w over a larger surface and get more voluminous comfortable air. A ceramic element is small, concentrating 1500w in a very small area, producing a small poof of extremely hot air, which I don't like because the air doesn't get far. In contrast this is the wire-element style which heats a larger volume of air not as hot, but still plenty hot. I prefer the wire-element kind as this one is, because you can warm yourself up in front of it. It also heats a room more evenly as air is more distributed. Some things you should be aware of. Firstly when you turn on the heater for the first time there will be some motor bearing noise as the bearings are worked in for the first time. I've used 3 of these and it will go away in a few minutes during the first run and doesn't come back. Second my unit has some thermostat bounce, in that it clicks on and then off, then a few seconds later clicks on until the set point is reached. Many heaters I've used do this, which is a property of the bimetallic strip thermostats manufacturers use. This could be alleviated with a different model thermostat, but the ones that don't bounce have loud clicks. Have an electrician make sure your electrical situation is safe. They can make sure outlets and wire connections to them are in good shape, as a bad outlet and/or connection to it can create a hazardous situation. In many cases this is not noticed until a high amp draw appliance like a heater is plugged in and used, which stresses weak electrical connections. Should you feel your outlet, plug, or cover plate getting hot call an electrician and have them take a look at the outlet, and the other ones in the circuit. Since outlets are daisy-chained, a bad connection could exist in an outlet upstream as well. I caught several of these in my house, where the neutral line had gotten so hot it blackened, due to a "backstab" connection to the outlet. "Backstab" and "Backwire" connections are different and your electrician will know the difference.

We absolutely love this thing! We were originally using Delonghi space heaters (complete and over-priced junk) to heat our RV during this frigid winter. Two of those pieces of garbage could hardly hold the temps in our RV in the low to mid sixties, and really only about 3 or 4 feet directly in front. And they consumed about 1500 watts, each, to do so. After one of them prematurely died, I wanted to replace them with something less junky. These were a bit higher priced, but the Delonghis weren't exactly cheap, so price wasn't the only factor I wanted to consider. I was originally skeptical about all the "hype" of rotating the air being all that important, or just how effective this is at doing so; thinking "just how much of a difference is that really going to make? The other pieces of garbage had a fan on them too". After using this for a few months, I completely believe it. It does exactly as it's advertised to do (quite rare these days) and an excellent job maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the entire space. So instead of being blasted with 200 degree air, 3 feet directly in front, and basically no heat elsewhere; this keeps the entire space a consistent temp; and do so usually at the medium 1200w settings (vs 1500x2). We are now able to easily hold temps in the low seventies, all across the RV, with equivalently comparative outside temps. We're only using this one Vornado and have essentially retired the one remaining Delonghi piece of garbage to "just in case" use. The thermometer on it is basic, no frills, but works reliably. The delonghi had one of those "digital" units. All that translated to was unnecessary complexity, inconvenience, and noise. It beeped annoyingly and incessantly any time you made ANY change, it did NOT hold any previous temps or settings if turned off (whether or not it's unplugged), required no less than 7 steps (with corresponding BEEP every time) just to turn it on, put it into auto mode, and set a temp (let alone a BEEP for every single degree), and the thermometer didn't work for jack (which presented an additional fire-safety hazard, as that is the ONLY safety shut-off on it). This unit simply uses a knob to control temp, and push buttons to set the power (3 modes, low 750w, med 1200w, high 1500w), and an on/off switch. It can easily be unplugged and moved around without requiring a complete "reprogramming". It's also very light (appropriately so) and is easy to move around, yet stays solidly put in place. It also has both a tip-over and over-temp sensor. The tip-over sensor is very effective, yet not annoyingly unusable. When it's placed on a flat surface, it works, otherwise it stops. The thermometer is effective and sensitive, keeping the set temp and cycling on/off accordingly. I've noticed that it can be a bit finicky when in the middle; often "short cycling" unnecessarily. I'm going to watch it to make sure it's not indicative of a problem, but it's easily solved by moving the knob slightly colder or warmer to keep it consistently on or off. I really like the 5 year warranty and the company does seem to stand behind its product (unlike delonghi did when I informed them of their failure). I have not used their support yet personally (have not needed to), but have talked with people who have and were they quite impressed with Vornado's response. So far we're quite impressed with this heater and it is quite effective at keeping our RV toasty warm.

This is a great heater! It’s very quiet but works really well. My pets love it too. I love the safety feature that makes it turn off if it’s tipped over or picked up. I don’t really understand the first knob that’s supposed to act like a thermostat and make it cycle off and on - I haven’t been able to get it to cycle back on so I just leave it alone. I do adjust between low, medium and high heat. I carry it back and forth between my living room and my office so the handle on top is nice. I’m in an apartment but it’s drafty so this helps me not have to crank the central heat super high. I took away one star because of the thermostat knob (could be user error) and because the plug gets really hot. The plug and the prongs on the plug, actually. But I love it!

I had almost the exact same model as this one, except the front grill was black and it was absolutely whisper quiet. You couldn't even tell it was on. Just silent warmth. The power button stopped working after a couple of years, so I figured I'd just buy a new one, but it's out of stock/they stopped making it. I figured this one was pretty much the exact same unit, with a slight difference in the color of the grill. I saw other Vornado models, but reading the reviews, saw that they were a bit noisier. So I opted for this model, only to discover it's somewhat noisy with the audible whirling of the fan blades my previous unit didn't have. Not sure if this is normal or if I have a defective unit, but I'll read the reviews and see if others are having the same noise issue. It's not terrible or anything. It won't keep you up at night. I'm just spoiled by how quiet the previous model was. Update: I bought my first Vornado fan heater 25 years ago at a going closing location sale of a department store. Got a supposed good deal on it, so I was looking forward to using it. I got home and plugged it in and it warmed the bedroom up in just a few minutes. I drifted off to sleep only to awaken 5 minutes later by the smell of smoke and seeing the unit catch fire. Since it was an "all sales are final" sale, I couldn't get a refund, so I figured I must have gotten a lemon someone had returned and they ripped me off. Fast forward to about 5 years ago. I saw this model or one just like at Home Depot and decided to give Vornado another chance picked it up. It stopped working after less than 2 years. So I bought another one from Home Depot, figuring I just had bad luck and got a lemon. But that replacement died after 8 months. I figured I'd try again and ordered one from Amazon. I got it 2/26/2022, plugged it in and it died after 2 days. Amazon replaced it with a new one on 3/3/2022 and I've been using it for the last year. Yesterday was 3/6/2023 and my Vornado heater shorted out, caught fire. I got a whole year and 4 days use out of it. Every single Vornado heater I've ever bought has died on me due to electrical issues. This company has the shoddiest products ever. But when they work, there's nothing like them, so I keep throwing my money away, hoping to get a good unit. Sigh..

This heater works. I am awaiting my third heater just ordered from Amazon. I purchased 2 of these in the fall of 2014. The first in October and the second in December. I have one in my living room and one in the dining room. Living room is 16x14 with 8 and a half foot ceiling. Dining room is 12x13 with 8 1/2 ft ceiling and is open to the kitchen. There is a staircase in the living room that heat escapes to the second floor. Also, there is a foyer 7x7 with vaulted ceiling. Just want to give a sense of the space I use these in. I live in Vermont so we do experience cold and wind. Minus 2 this week. As weather cools in October I set up and turn on these heaters. They run 24/7 until mid to late April. They keep this large area warm and as a supplement to oil heat. I couldn't be happier! There are no cool spots anywhere in this space. Sometimes on a mild day I open the windows to cool off the rooms. I've reduced my oil consumption by about 700 gallons each year. A terrific savings. These units are quiet and can only hear them if nothing is on and still whisper quiet. These are basic units that have a dial with numbers that are fairly meaningless. To use them, when the temperature is ideal in your room, turn the dial until the heater goes off. It will go back on when the temp goes below the temp you adjusted to. As outside temps increase or decrease they will need to be tweaked. When I remove them in the Spring I use a shop vac to blow the dust out of them and then return them to the original boxes for storage. As well as the dial to set as a thermostat there is a rocker switch for low "I", 750w, "II" medium, 1150w, and "III" at 1500w. These are set on "II". Running on "III" may trip the breakers in this old house. I guess I should mention that this house is about 70 years old. I have done quite a bit of improvements to plug up air leaks and add insulation. Finally, I can't give you a real number on electrical demand/cost. In 2014 I installed 24 solar panels and generate way more electricity than I would normally have used. My excess runs $1,000. to $1,200 excess electricity per year so running heaters with windows open doesn't matter to me. Sorry for the ramble but these basic Vornado whole room heaters are fantastic and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I have had no problems of any kind hence my third purchase. When my Holmes space heater finally died, I researched a whole lot of possible replacements, finally choosing this one. After four month's of constant use, I'm more than pleased over this purchase. What I like most about it: 1) Reliability - I've used this little heater almost daily, and it's never failed. 2) Simplicity - The controls are simple, easy to understand, and provide a very flexible range of temperature control . 3) Quiet - I use it in my home office but would easily consider using it in our bedroom while sleeping. 3) Aesthetics - for my taste at least, the sleek, black case looks great - and it has a very nice built-in handle. 4) Safety - it automatically shuts off instantly if it's tipped over - or even if it's tilted. 5) Value - I wasn't looking for the cheapest space heater - most of them had mixed reviews and I didn't want mine dying within the year. My last heater lasted over 8 years and I hope this one does too! In December I paid $59 on Amazon - now they're going for $69. I think I would have paid $69. One caveat - One thing that's probably important to know: When I first used this heater, it stank up the whole room with a plastic-like smell. The first 3-4 days were the worst, so I aired out the room, but after about a week, it subsided and now there's no disagreeable odor whatsoever. If there is one thing Vornado could do to improve this product, it would be addressing this. Otherwise, I have ZERO complaints and highly recommend this great heater!

This is a great, little heater. I bought it for a downstairs guest bathroom that always seems a little chilly, especially if you were showering. It's perfect for that application as it will quickly heat up the somewhat small room and keep it that way. I have used it more in our office, however, which is on the northwest side of our home and gets the worst of the cold winter wind when it's blowing. It always seems to be cold at those times. I plug this in near the desk chair and it's instant warmth without negligible sound. I have to look for the little red light and/or put my hand in front of it to make sure it's on. The tip-over switch immediately turns it off if I lift it or move it slightly so I'm comfortable that it's safe. It heats up the 15 x 15 foot room in no time and I've had to turn it off as it gets too warm after a while, though, of course, it's not the only heat source in the room. I highly recommend this heater. I love it! Oct. 2015 update- I purchased this early last December and use it mainly in our lower level office, which is a 15' x 15' room with an 8 1/2 foot ceiling. The room has one furnace vent and a large, southern facing "triple" window. The issue is that it is exposed on three sides to our mid-west winter wind and often requires additional heat to keep me comfortable. I set this little heater 3 to 5 feet from me and will have to turn it off within 15-30 minutes or move it further away, without it even being on high, maybe 75%. Of course this depends on the outside temperature and my clothing, etc. But, for me, this is a perfect heater, quiet and efficient. Vornado also makes a similar nursery heater that includes a remote temp control that works pretty slick too, but it's substantially more expensive, of course. I love this model and would purchase another in a heartbeat.

Satisfied with it. Some points to explain why: 0) I will not tell you fairytales about heat efficiency, because it has heating element, it delivers as much heat as consumed electric power. Q=(I×I)×R×t: whe: Q - Joules, I - Amperes, R - Ohms, t - seconds. And it is the same for all the electric heating elements with fan. Any other option for effeciency can be only in the case of heat pump, i e. unit transfering heat energy between 2 heat exchangers Another things are heat delivery, power levels, noise levels, and less smell. 1) The fan of this heater creates more airflow then average, and mixing air in the room. It helps to avoid hot upper and cold lower levels of air, at least make this effect less pronounced. They call it "Vortex technology" 2) I measured power consumption by smart plug - 725W, 1150W, 1500W. I use it on lowest setting and it helps to avoid "cycling" - cycles of overheating and overcooling. 3) Noise levels is lower than average, except Dyson. It is from my subjective experience with other heaters 4) Last, but not the least - electrical heaters can't "burn oxygen". Burning is process of oxidation of something. To burn oxygen, heater has to oxidize its own heating element. If heating element still exists - it is no burning. What happens - frying of small particles of dust by heat when air goes through heater, and we can smell it. This smell, and dry air (relative air humidity concept) creates feeling that something burnt. In case of this heater, more airflow and lower temperature of heating element helps to make this effect less noticeable. My another heater is Dyson AM09, it's another class, but I'm satisfied with both of them. Don't trust me without fact-checking. Read other reviews, use your logic, consider finances, and make your choice.

The Tornado MVH does a great job taking the chill off our basement theater. It heats at a rate of about 1 degree every 10 minutes (in our space) and quietly warms the air. Although the look of the grill implies fan-like air movement, it gently distributes the heat evenly without strong waves of hot air. I wasn't sure if this heater would be sufficient to warm our 12'x15' space (which is open to another area of similar size). It does a great job. There is a thermostatic control and three heat settings, so once the room reaches the desired level of comfort, it will shut off as needed to hold the temperature. A red light above the grill indicated when the unit is operating, so it's easy to remember to turn it off when leaving the room. The outer case remains cool, so there is no danger to children or pets when it is running. Overall, this was an excellent choice for us.
