A Refreshing Herbal Fragrance
I happen to really like this Organic Doctor Organic Charcoal Shampoo. We all have a difference sense of smell and I didn't smell anything medicinal in this shampoo but rather an herbal smell. In fact, the fragrance is exactly that fragrance I smell when I walk into a natural food store that carries organic herbal spices and teas. I happen to like that smell. I smell this as I apply the shampoo but that pronounced herbal fragrance doesn't stay strongly in my hair, probably because of the charcoal (which also makes the shampoo black). Charcoal, of course, is well known to absorb toxins. As for cleaning, it did a good job for me. It is a clarifying shampoo so I wouldn't expect to use it every day but perhaps once a week. It is designed to strip the hair of buildup and it does so without the common, chemical surfactants found in most inexpensive clarifying shampoos. Anyone who loves the fragrance of the health food store's teas and spices will most likely enjoy this delightful shampoo.

Don’t buy it!
Not the real Dr Organic. I didn’t even try to use it . The contents wouldn’t mix after shaking the bottle for quite awhile. One of the bottles had leaked in the box. I should never had ordered two bottles. I didn’t know there was a cut off date for returning the product

Organic Doctor Charcoal Shampoo
The product seems to work well. But I received in an envelope with no padding and the shampoo had leaked out except for about two washings. You will want to condition your hair after using this. If I would re-order this, I'd probably not go through the mail and go to a physical store.

Not the results I want
It seems that charcoal added in beauty products is now all the rave. Recently, I tested Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water and was super pleased, so I was expecting great things from the Organic Doctor Organic Charcoal Shampoo. The scent is pleasant enough, and I also like the more natural, subtle smell as compared to the overly sweet scented fragrances usually associated with shampoos and conditioners. The “clarifying and revitalizing” shampoo lathers adequately. It also seems gentle without stripping my hair.Unfortunately, the shampoo doesn’t leave my hair feeling totally clean and leaves an oily residue on my scalp and hair.In addition, no matter how natural manufacturers make the product sound, the ingredient list is endless with some toxic-sounding ingredients. After I finish this bottle of shampoo, I will not buy it and would have ranked it 2 stars; however, since there is NO animal testing, that raised the score one star.

Good shampoo for deep-cleaning hair.
I'll start this review by noting that this Organic Doctor Activated Charcoal Shampoo tries to make itself seem more "natural" than it really is. If you glance at the back label, you see a section titled "organic and natural bioactive ingredients", followed by a long list of lovely-sounding natural ingredients that you might mistake for the complete ingredients list. However, that's ONLY the list of the ingredients which happen to be organic or natural, and the full ingredients list is in teeny, tiny, almost illegible print further down the label and has a lot of scary-sounding things: benzyl alcohol, sodium benzoate, sodium dehydroacetate, potassium sorbate, polyglycerin-10, polyglyceril-10, among many others. So, this shampoo may be free of parabens, pthalates, and some other harmful ingredients, but it is by no means as natural as it would have you believe. If you're OK with the ingredients (and I think I am, because, let's face it, "natural" shampoo doesn't do much), let's move on to how well it works...This shampoo does a very good job of deep-cleaning my hair and stripping away any conditioner/oil/grease build-up. My scalp was noticeably less oily after using this than with my usual shampoo, but it also stripped the oil from my hair so it took away some of the luster. There's nothing on the directions about how often you should use this, but after researching clarifying shampoo online I found that some haircare professionals recommend using it once every 3 to 4 weeks. Think of it like a hair "reset".It's an unusual-looking shampoo because it's a dark grey color thanks to the charcoal. It lathers reasonably well into a white lather, but I find that two applications works best. It has an unusual smell for a shampoo; to me it smells very much like a strong aniseed/licorice scent, even though I don't see any aniseed in the ingredients. I noticed some of the other reviewers hated it, but I actually quite like it; besides, it doesn't linger in my hair after rinsing so the smell is no big deal even if you don't like it.I like that it's made in the EU, and, my favorite part: it's vegan (or at least claims to be), with no animal testing.

Excellent Cleansing and Wonderful Aroma
This organic shampoo goes on easily, with a thick, rich feel that lathers up nicely. It rinses clean, leaving none of the tacky residue that some shampoos do. I love the fragrance. It's a strong herbal blend of patchouli, frankincense, balsam, cucumber, and other oils that give it a very natural and unique aroma. Though strong, once rinsed it doesn't leave behind too much of a scent but just a pleasant hint. It leaves my hair feeling very clean and manageable without drying it out. Overall, I like it a lot, and particularly appreciate the organic ingredients that forgo the usual laundry list of chemical ingredients.

what a stench! Awful. Gagged it was so strong that I coun't use it. It was also shipped in a brown mailer so the cap opened and the bottle was covered in shampoo.
