Highly tuneable racing/work axe with excellent steel and mass distribution
I purchased the Hults Bruk 840511 Arvika 5 Star Racing Axe (4.5 lb head, 32" handle) as a performance platform, and it has proven to be exceptionally well designed and highly tuneable. The steel and heat treatment are excellent. The temper favors toughness and edge stability over extreme hardness, which is exactly what you want in an impact tool. Under hard hardwood use, the edge shows controlled wear rather than chipping, and the steel responds very predictably to files and stones. This makes it easy to tune, maintain, and keep working without fear of brittle failure. One of the strongest indicators of the Arvika’s quality is its tuneability. After profiling and thinning the bit to a working/racing geometry, my fully tuned head finished at 4.0 lbs, down from the factory 4.5 lbs. Despite the weight reduction, performance increased dramatically. This shows that the factory head carries useful mass in the right places, allowing material to be removed without compromising strength or stability. With the tuned geometry, the axe is a beast when swung. It bites exceptionally deep, carries through the cut cleanly, and releases chips efficiently without binding. The cheeks provide proper support behind the edge, allowing an aggressive profile while maintaining edge stability. The head tracks true and remains predictable even when pushed hard. Although marketed as a racing axe, it is best described as a racing/work hybrid. Out of the box it is conservative and durable; once tuned, it becomes a high-performance cutter that still retains the toughness needed for real use. This makes it far more versatile than ultra-thin, purpose-built race axes. With a properly fitted handle and correct hang, the 4 lb tuned head delivers excellent swing dynamics. Acceleration is smooth, momentum carries naturally, and shock transfer is controlled. It rewards good technique and inspires confidence during sustained work. Summary: Excellent steel and forgiving heat treatment Extremely responsive to profiling and tuning Lost 0.5 lb in tuning with significant performance gain Deep bite, clean chip release, predictable edge behavior Durable enough for work, capable enough for racing This is a true 5-star axe. If you want a head that can be safely thinned, tuned aggressively, and pushed hard without becoming fragile, the Hults Bruk Arvika is an outstanding choice.

Leather sheath wasn't included
Good axe but didn't come with leather sheath as originally advertised. Will give more stars if problem is fixed in the future.

I love this axe
Ok, I love tools. Especially cool tools and this is cool! I sharpened the axe as soon as I got my hands on it. Then I went out back to split a large log and split it with ease. Swinging a 4.5 lb axe head will generate enough energy to chop or split anything. Of course, I got a workout but I enjoy breaking a sweat

Good axe but can’t read stamp
Definitely a nice head but I don’t like the stamping job they did. Can barely read it. Took an hour or so of filing the edge to get it to where I’d like it but does a great job splitting oak. Hasn’t moved yet but I feel like it could’ve sat a little lower on the handle closer to the shoulder of the handle. Other than that, pretty happy with it.

Crooked
Well made axe head. Unfortunately it was hung crooked on handle.

This thing is built like a tank.
This thing is a monster. Be very careful to not injure yourself, this thing is not a toy it's a weapon of mass destruction. Wear safety goggles, and when swinging, swing downwards, not a arc towards you or you will smash your own feet. The proper swinging form is like ringing a giant bell straight down. I feel like i'm swinging a sledge hammer when i use this thing. The handle came very dry though. Had to coat it with coconut oil the first and second day i got it. Now it's perfect.

A Proper Axe
This is a beautiful axe. I’ve read some of the bad reviews and just have to scratch my head a bit. If you are a axe person and truly use it you will put your own edge on it regardless even though the edge mine had was plenty sharp to chip timber or spilt logs. The balance of this axe is amazing and the fit and finish is on point. The grain orientation was nice and strait as I like it to be. Also they must be reading the reviews cause mine came with a sheath. Being able to get a HB felling axe for under $200 bucks is a absolute steal. I mean GB small forest axe is over that so even if they don’t put extra work into it like a perfect edge or a sheath(even though I got one) it’s what has to be done to get it into our hands for such a reasonable price. I will cherish this axe til I die...

You have to profile it yourself so it is as good as you make it. Good length, good weight. Mine had a straight handle with excellent grain orientation I have modded and thinned my handle excessively but the palmswell is on the smaller side but does the job well when shaped correctly

It's missing a leather case... Consider that you have to find someone who will craft a case for you, which is not an easy stuff in most of the cities. It's a bit disappointing considering the quality of the axe and the brand, that they didn't include at least a low quality axe sheath.
