Works!
Works fine when you cook on a propane stove! It lowers the "simmer" to an actual simmer. Propane burns hotter than other cooking methods, so this is a must for your propane stove in an RV!

Wooden handle on a heat diffuser?
This was not my smartest purchase. I must have missed the fact that the simmer ring has a wooden handle. The wooden handle is easy to burn during use. Also, if you need to clean the metal surface and water gets inside the heating disc, it rusts. Don't be misled, as I was, by the good overall rating this product has at the moment (4 stars) and its reasonable price. It is not worth purchasing. I threw mine away after one use and now own a far better product that I bought for an equivalent price.

De Stresser
I had one of these years ago, using it under a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker on a city gas stove. After moving into a place with an electric stove, it landed in the donation box. I purchased a one person cazuela for my morning oatmeal. These are suggested. I pulled diffusers out of the donation box. One is the cast iron, the other older version of this one. I want all my burners covered now. I collect old cast iron skillets and cookers. There is always a hot spot. All cookware has imperfections, including my All Clad, Le Creuset. I live alone now and use the computer for long stretches. I take walks. With these little work horses, my oatmeal does not burn and is ready when I get back. I use organic steel cut oats. I also use the Rancho Gordo beans. These flame tamers (diffusers) with a clay pot create a mini oven without the whole place being heated up. Good with the Chinese sand pots, Japanese Donabis. Got stuck in traffic.. thought I would come back to a mess..the magic combination of diffuser and pot had done their work.. perfectly cooked, not burned just hot and waiting for me. Amazing. Took me about a week to learn to trust it. Freedom !I will be purchasing another. Could not find the same free shipping offer. Try them.. never mind the aesthetics.. I find charm in these little gems. I just leave them under the heavy pots on the stove.. saves my wrist.

Cheap construction, but works.
I've been buying this type of heat diffuser for decades. They have gotten slowly lighter and less sturdy over the years. Didn't think they could go much below my last one from about six years ago but they have managed to do it. But it still does the job and is still cheap. You will want to... -keep them dry, as they will rust very easily -never use them with anything but a very low heat setting, as the handle will burn away I use these almost every day, and get my moneys worth and more out of them. Not a high quality product by any means, but still a useful tool in the kitchen, and one I would not be without.

Did not hold up well!
It works ok but did not hold up well. The problem is the wooden part is too close to the metal diffuser part and gets scorched easily, especially if you use a large pan. I have a gas stove and it seems to get too hot for the product and warps it. Maybe an electric range would work better? It would also work better if the wooden part of the handle was away from the diffuser part and slanted upwards, not flat. ! still use it but took the handle off.

Great Kitchenco Tool
I was so pleased to finally find this product. My mother gave me one years ago and it went missing. I have looked in every housewares store and could not find this item...thank god for Amazon! This tool makes cooking foods at a low temperature for hours a breeze...no worries about burning the bottom of pan....even with milk based sauces. Great for homemade noodles and dumplings! A must have.

NOT Aluminum!
This is NOT aluminum. I was hoping it was, as we use it for toasting bread (we live off the grid and a toaster uses too much electricity), and these have a tendency to rust quickly. But they are inexpensive, so I bought two. They work fine when they aren't full of rust holes! Changing my rating from 4 to 2 stars. Reason: The wooden handle. Bad idea. The ones with the folding metal handles are much better. I am afraid that soon I will have to improvise a handle for this!

Works great and no smoking
I ordered two of these, one of this brand and one Norpro. They're almost identical. There was a note enclosed that recommended washing before use to prevent smoking. I followed the recommendation and had absolutely no smoking or odor. It works perfectly on my gas stove. I've been frustrated for years because I couldn't adjust the flame low enough to warm or gently simmer sauces and soups. Yes, the wood handle singes near the metal, but it's better than melting plastic or a hot all-metal handle. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm just careful to place it out of direct contact with the flame. It's definitely worth the price.
